The objectives of the study included amongst others; to identify the stigmas associated with IDDs in public places (to study the stigmas within families of IDD), to assess the challenges faced by people with Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and to evaluate the role of social workers in eradication stigma against IDDs in public spaces (the role of social workers in creating a behaviour change among families of people with IDD). Literature was reviewed along lines of objectives and the theoretical review was carried out using the social model of disability. The study indicates that the major source of stigmatization was tradition and religion and that the major challenges faced by people with disabilities were the family, acceptance by the society and mobility. In eradicating stigmas among people with disability, three intervention modes have been suggested. They include institutional, community and interpersonal level of intervention. Social workers eradicate stigma by pushing for inclusive education and mindset change. It is recommended that mindset change must start from the families and religious centres and then transit into government policies.
