English Language Learner (ELL) | Summer 2026

During the months of July and August English Language Learners are invited to participate in a variety of activities at The Livingston Public Library. Please visit the Library website for information and registration. 

Here are a few highlights. Consider joining in the summer fun by…

  1. Attending an Adult program or Event like Yoga, Crafterwork, or Lecture
  2. Joining a Film Showing – Free popcorn!
  3. Attending The Library Speakers Consortium
  4. Bringing your children to a “Take Home Craft” activity – ages 3+
  5. Joining a Book Club
  6. Signing up for The Adult Reading Program – Weekly prize drawings!
  7. Registering for Mango – Online learning platform for Library card holders
 

In September four, seven week classes will be offered in addition to Casual Conversation:

Improving English Skills – Tuesdays 11:00 – 12:00 

Reading For Meaning (Comprehension class) – Tuesdays 1:00 – 2:00 

Beginner Book Club – Wednesdays 10:30 – 11:30 

Intermediate Virtual Book Club – Wednesdays 7:00 – 8:00 pm

Casual Conversation – Small group instruction – September – December

E.L.L. Resources

World Language Collection

The Livingston Public Library’s World Language Collection is located to the right of the main entrance as you walk in the door. It is directly across from the public computer tables and the reference desk. The collection includes books and resources in Chinese, Indian languages, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian.

The ELL Shelf

Located alongside the World Language Collection, the ELL Shelf has a great selection of books and resources on educational topics such as ESL/TOEFL, American idioms, English grammar & vocabulary, immigration resources, and past editions of the Easy English News. The newspaper writes in clear, simple English, with vocabulary explained.

Check out our Language-Learning Resources, all available right on your smart device (and free), courtesy of your Livingston Library card. Little learners can watch language-learning episodes of Muzzy & Little Pim in various languages on Kanopy Kids. Use Mango Languages to take full-length courses in over 70 languages, including English from your first language.

Volunteer Tutors Needed!

Tutors work with English Language Learners in a small group setting one hour a week

  • All sessions take place in the common areas at The Livingston Public Library 
  • All learning materials are prepared in advance
  • The specific day and time of the session is arranged between the tutor and students.
  • Tutors do not need teaching experience, foreign language skills or Livingston residency
