Educating Through Film

Documentary films are one of the most effective ways to tell the compelling stories of scientists, volunteers, and those afflicted with mind and sight diseases. BrightFocus Foundation partners with filmmakers, nonprofits, foundations, and more to help bring these stories to life (and to the big screen). Through this work, we can increase the awareness of the impact of Alzheimer’s, macular degeneration, and glaucoma– along with the ground-breaking research being done to defeat these diseases.

Poignant, inspiring, enlightening–these are just a few words that can describe the documentary films that shed light on diseases of mind and sight. Get an intimate look inside the lives of real people living with these diseases and the efforts of the scientists and researchers who are tirelessly working to understand these diseases better and ultimately find the cures.

Turning Point: The Quest for a Cure

As a presentation partner, BrightFocus invites you to watch a gripping documentary about researchers on the cusp of a scientific breakthrough that could be the first step toward making Alzheimer’s disease a distant memory. BrightFocus, through our Alzheimer’s Disease Research program, supports bold, innovative scientific research worldwide to discover a cure for Alzheimer’s.

Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me

Director James Keach tells the story of music legend Glen Campbell. The film focuses on Campbell’s life, his music, and the extraordinary 151-city “Goodbye Tour” de force that has made him a hero. The film centers on Campbell’s struggles with Alzheimer’s disease.

Building Equitable Access to Alzheimer's Care in Underrepresented Communities

Like many communities across America, disparities in healthcare have plagued the town of Valdosta, Georgia, where, until recently, brain health and dementia awareness had not been a major focus.  Learn about the partnership between BrightFocus Foundation and Reminiscent, a Valdosta-based dementia education nonprofit, to explore ways to build trust, raise awareness, and provide meaningful information and services related to age-and-brain health to under-resourced communities and set the stage for sustained and scalable outreach efforts to come.

Taking Care

Taking Care is a 38-minute documentary that follows Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller Rogen as they face the challenges of Lauren’s mother’s early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Directed by award-winning filmmaker James Keach, the film captures the Rogens’ unique blend of humor and honesty as they navigate the challenges of caregiving. Presented by Hilarity for Charity, BrightFocus Foundation, PCH Films, and AARP.
