Anne Päivärinta
My research focuses on embodiment in literature and particularly the functions of embodied metaphors in literary texts.
My doctoral dissertation (2014) was an interdisciplinary exploration of embodied metaphors in Dylan Thomas’s writing. I developed a critical text-analytical take on Conceptual Metaphor Theory in order to argue that embodiment defines Thomas’s writing both thematically and stylistically.
In January 2018 I will be starting a new research project entitled "Nomadity as Embodied Absence in Contemporary Fiction".
