Finally got a chance to try Rockaway Pizza last night and see what all the fuss is about. Simply put, it’s well-deserved fuss. We went traditional and ordered the NYC Round, half pepperoni. Hands down the best pizza I’ve had here in Pittsburgh. IMO it rivals some of the best I’ve eaten in New York.

Guy Kawasaki says ‘move fast and break things’ is a myth. True! But since he can’t quite escape its toxic allure, I’ll say it for him, loudly and proudly:

This seems like a good entry point to learning about the solarpunk movement and it’s ethos of using technology in collaboration with ecological systems instead of dominating them. My only qualm is the author misunderstanding Luddites.

“Few people ask from books what books can give us. Most commonly we come to books with blurred and divided minds, asking of fiction that it shall be true, of poetry that it shall be false, of biography that it shall be flattering, of history that it shall enforce our own prejudices.” (Maria Popova, Virginia Woolf on How to Read a Book)

I often come to books with a blurred and divided mind. But I come to the book asking it to help me un-blur and un-divide. That the slow process of reading would give me clarity and a singular focus, free from the distraction of short-form or digital media.

OTD in 2017, I ran across a tag for my old college-era backpack, an absolute beast that I had absolutely no business using. I knew I had perhaps over-purchased when I saw someone donning the pack during an IMAX film about serious mountaineering. 😂

i see these two O R B S hanging out on the corner every time i walk to the store. today i asked a guy behind the counter if he knew what kind of birds they were - first he thought i was referring to a brand of booze until i clarified, “the ones outside, they’re like turkeys but cute.” ahh, guineas!

Vojna je spojená s materiálnymi podmienkami života. Tieto podmienky môžu vytvárať kultúru násilia, kultúru, ktorá uctieva a odmeňuje úspech v boji, kultúru, ktorá povyšuje mužov - bojovníkov nad ženy. Táto kultúra násilia môže byť zákerná a ťažko prekonateľná, ale neodráža len ľudskú prirodzenosť.

The brilliant Japanese writer Haruki Murakami once wrote, “Always remember that to argue, and win, is to break down the reality of the person you are arguing against. It is painful to lose your reality, so be kind, even if you are right.”

I started doing my daily Readwise reviews again to revisit my old highlights from books and articles. Anytime I reboot a reflective practice like this, I realize how much I missed it. I’m going to start sharing these more to re-process them myself and to share what I have found impactful.

Today’s highlight is from James Clear’s Why Facts Don’t Change Our Minds
