As formless awakeness, without a body, heart, or mind in an N.D.E. at age four, and as an experiential scientist since 1983, I have been exploring humanity’s capacity to share a commonly-sensed consciousness. I collaborated for five years with an award-winning experimental psychologist, Dr. William Braud, a senior research associate at the Mind Science Foundation (MSF), a 61- year old privately endowed institute based in San Antonio, Texas—utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to the scientific study of human, animal, and machine communication anomalies.   As an adjunct research associate, I helped pioneer the field of Distant Mental Interactions with Living Systems (DMILS) and direct a multinational, scientifically based, social action media research project to discover how to demonstrate our indivisibility on instrument under double-blind conditions with participants stationed at neuroscientific laboratories in widely separated geographic locations.  To further the evolution of a socially altruistic heart-centered intelligence and two-way telepathic awareness, I founded the Human Connection Institute in 1990, facilitated hundreds of groups internationally for nearly forty years, learned to teach anyone interested how to effectively recreate these experiences in-person, as well as online via webcam, and given invited presentations on human interconnectedness and the Human Connection Project at the University of Connecticut ('88/'89), the Association for Research and Enlightenment ('90), the United Nations ('92), World Business Academy ('93/'94), Duke University ('95), and more ...I share a six year theoretical physics partnership with James E. Beichler, PhD co-creatively modeling how point-centered processes generated all phenomena and the expansion of our universe, including a Self-organizing non-material consciousness, wherein its dimensional byproducts and measurements re-generate what is physical, emotional, mental, soulful, and spiritual. Jim and I worked ‘independently’ for forty years - each - before we met to collaborate on these realizations.

Various ways of evaluating this sense of connectedness have been studied under controlled scientific conditions. Through these studies, more has been learned about the effect of connectedness, ways of facilitating a sense of connection, and how to approach some objective understanding of its physical basis and human value. Evidently, we do share a interconnected rapport with others and with nature. However, we may have formed the contrary habit of dissociating and repressing a sense of connectedness for reasons strategic to their individual survival. Nevertheless, individual and global health could depend on therapeutically confronting these choices-both personally and socially.

Further Studies of Autonomic Detection of Remote Staring: Replication, New Control Procedures, and Personality Correlates

In a previous paper (Braud, Shafer, & Andrews, 1993), we reviewed the scientific literature d... more In a previous paper (Braud, Shafer, & Andrews, 1993), we reviewed the scientific literature dealing with the purported ability to detect when one is being watched or stared at by someone situated beyond the range of the conventional senses. Surveys indicated that between 68% and 94% of various samples reported having had staring detection experiences in their everyday lives. Previous investigations provided suggestive evidence that persons were indeed able to detect, consciously, when they were being stared at under conditions in which precautions were taken to eliminate possible subtle sensory cues. In particular, positive conscious-guessing results were obtained in two studies in which sensory cueing was eliminated through use of one-way mirrors (Peterson, 1978) and use of a closed-circuit television system (Williams, 1983). We hypothesized that stronger effects might be obtained if relatively "unconscious" autonomic nervous system activity were used as the indicator of staring detection, rather than conscious guessing. Our reasoning was that autonomic reactions might be less distorted by higher cognitive processes and therefore might provide a purer and more sensitive indicator. We presented the results of two original experiments in which sympathetic nervous system activation was assessed by means of electrodermal monitoring during randomly interspersed remote-staring and nonstaring (control) periods. The monitored participant was unaware of the number, timing, or scheduling pattern of these two types of periods. The possibility of sensory cueing was eliminated through the use of a closed-circuit television system for staring: the starer devoted full attention to the staree's image on the television monitor. In the first experiment, 16 untrained participants evidenced significant autonomic discrimination, becoming more activated during staring than during nonstaring periods. In the second experiment, 16 subjects who had been extensively trained to become more aware of their interconnections with other people and less defensive about their connectedness also evidenced significant autonomic discrimination, but became more calm during staring than during nonstaring periods; the starer had been similarly trained. As judged by effect sizes, unconscious autonomic detection did indeed appear to yield stronger effects than did previous conscious verbal or motoric detection assessments. In the present paper, we present our attempts to replicate and extend our previous findings. Identical equipment, basic procedures, and analysis methods were used. The first replication involved 3 new starers and 30 new starees. The second replication involved the same starer who had participated in the earlier experiments reported in 1993, but employed 16 new starees. We made two additions in these studies. One of these was the introduction (into Replication 2) of an additional empirical control condition. This was a "sham control" in which we treated sessions and data as we did for real staring sessions, but staring did not, in fact, occur; this provided an empirical assessment of the likelihood of obtaining chance discriminations of otherwise equivalent session segments. The second improvement was the introduction of a new personality assessment for the starees in both replications. In addition to the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) we had been using in the original studies, we included an assessment of social anxiety or discomfort in a social situation (a Social Avoidance and Distress scale), in order to explore the possible interrelationships of these personality characteristics with the autonomic staring detection effect. METHOD Subjects Thirty volunteer participants (22 females and 8 males) served as "starees" for Replication 1, and 16 volunteers (5 males and 11 females) participated as starees for Replication 2. OVERVIEW: We show how the collective intelligence of humanity can be accessed via a commonly sens... more OVERVIEW: We show how the collective intelligence of humanity can be accessed via a commonly sensed consciousness: 1) the physics and cosmology which support this; 2) our ability to demonstrate this scientifically; and 3) how this can be achieved conceptually and practically, via education, films, and social media. 1 ABSTRACT: It is argued that an effective way to view consciousness is as a "superposition" of existence and nonexistence, producing an indivisible experience of "nonlocal being", plus who and what we perceive ourselves to be (local observers). This relationship between an observerbased localization and the nonlocal whole is examined. Using ideas from general relativity and quantum mechanics (QM), we suggest how a space-time continuum (GR)-including QM probability and uncertainty, as properties of consciousness-may have arisen as dynamic complementarities. Opportunities to contemplate the origins of existence are investigated, and corresponding experimental studies are suggested.

A nagging problem has existed in the way we regard the local physical world around us and the non... more A nagging problem has existed in the way we regard the local physical world around us and the non-local universe at large since the very beginning development of our philosophical and scientific attitudes toward the external world. That problem deals with the dualistic way in which we parse the physical world itself through geometry. Geometry can be based upon two different elements: the extension-or metric-element of Riemann and the point-element. Riemannian geometry can be fixed by expanding it to include the point-element, but even that is not enough. A further physical advance can be made by adopting the idea of the 0-D point Void, first developed intuitively by Sperry Andrews, but understanding the physical role of the 0-D point Void can only be realized by expanding that notion by adopting the physical concept of a discrete geometrical point/twist. It is only when a discrete 0-D point/twist Void replaces the simple point-element missing in the Riemannian system of differential geometry of surfaces that post-modern physics fulfills its promise. Understanding the concept of a point-element, of course, is necessary to understand how the Riemannian geometry has been used in general relativity as well as how it can be expanded to unify all of modern physics, including quantum theory, under a single geometrical paradigm. Whether a scientist is considering the discrete pointparticles of the Standard Model or the existence of point singularities in relativity theory, the concerns are exactly the same, which forces the concept of an individual 0-D discrete point void to the center of the unification process. In either case, the human Mind and Consciousness are perceiving and interpreting the physical/material world that science is attempting to theoretically describe so the ultimate question of Consciousness and how it interacts with the Mind/brain as well as our commonly experienced physical reality also needs to be answered within the context of the 0-D point/twist. In other words, this is the point (no pun intended) where scientific logic and non-scientific intuition come together to give a complete theoretical structure of our commonly shared physical reality. Toward that end, the only logical scientific precedent to understand anything like the 0-D point/twist in all of the history of science is only found in the notion of a tesseract, which dates from the late nineteenth century attempts to 'realize' the concept of a hyperspace in the absence of being able to detect them through astronomical observations so that a hyperspace geometry could be used to explain nature. The end product of understanding these concepts is a greater insight into how the single field theory explains a much wider range of physical phenomena than any single previous paradigm of physics.

a paper published in these proceedings. I have quoted him here in recognition of our mutual understanding
and referenced how he has addressed these insights in many of his papers in my bibliography. It is shown
here how point-centered processes could have generated all phenomena and the expansion of our universe
including non-material consciousness. He and I agree that a dimensionless mechanism, its dimensional byproducts, and measurements could have produced what is physical, emotional, mental, soulful, and spiritual.

The CQ-i evaluates patterns of behaviors, attitudes, and attentional styles as well as the usage of conscious skills, awareness, and the capacity to “feel awake and alive,” providing a complex exploration of conscious experience. A set of 237 items covering major aspects of the subjective conscious experience was selected to detect the phenomenal patterns of subjective conscious experience. An exploratory factor analysis on a large sample (N = 2,360), combined with our previous meta-research on conceptual convergence of conscious experiences, revealed that these experiences appear to have 15 patterns common to all of us. From time to time, most of us have had such a feeling, which appears to be a common part of the human experience. In surveys conducted in California (Coovet, 1913) as early as 1913, 68% to 86% of respondents reported having had the feeling of being watched or stared at on at least one occasion, and a more recent Australian survey (Williams, 1983) placed the figure at 74%. In a survey of San Antonio respondents recently completed as part of the present project, the figure was found to be approximately 94%. Despite its widespread occurrence and familiarity, the staring experience has been subjected to surprisingly little scientific scrutiny. The ‘certainty’ realized in this autobiographical sketch has been proving fundamental to humanity's spiritual freedom from (what could become needless) suffering. I find when groups use their words to point to what is (non-verbally) felt and sensed (by all-of-us) that a commonly sensed empathic sensitivity emerges within each of us and all of us.

The subjective experience of feeling consciously connected with others and our environment-to tha... more The subjective experience of feeling consciously connected with others and our environment-to that which is larger than ourselves-has been found to promote physical and mental health, or well-being. Various ways of evaluating this sense of connectedness have been studied under controlled scientific conditions. Through these studies, more has been learned about the effect of connectedness, ways of facilitating a sense of connection, and how to approach some objective understanding of its physical basis and human value. Evidently, we do share a interconnected rapport with others and with nature. However, we may have formed the contrary habit of dissociating and repressing a sense of connectedness for reasons strategic to their individual survival. Nevertheless, individual and global health could depend on therapeutically confronting these choices-both personally and socially.

In a previous paper (Braud, Shafer, & Andrews, 1993), we reviewed the scientific literature d... more In a previous paper (Braud, Shafer, & Andrews, 1993), we reviewed the scientific literature dealing with the purported ability to detect when one is being watched or stared at by someone situated beyond the range of the conventional senses. Surveys indicated that between 68% and 94% of various samples reported having had staring detection experiences in their everyday lives. Previous investigations provided suggestive evidence that persons were indeed able to detect, consciously, when they were being stared at under conditions in which precautions were taken to eliminate possible subtle sensory cues. In particular, positive conscious-guessing results were obtained in two studies in which sensory cueing was eliminated through use of one-way mirrors (Peterson, 1978) and use of a closed-circuit television system (Williams, 1983). We hypothesized that stronger effects might be obtained if relatively "unconscious" autonomic nervous system activity were used as the indicator of staring detection, rather than conscious guessing. Our reasoning was that autonomic reactions might be less distorted by higher cognitive processes and therefore might provide a purer and more sensitive indicator. We presented the results of two original experiments in which sympathetic nervous system activation was assessed by means of electrodermal monitoring during randomly interspersed remote-staring and nonstaring (control) periods. The monitored participant was unaware of the number, timing, or scheduling pattern of these two types of periods. The possibility of sensory cueing was eliminated through the use of a closed-circuit television system for staring: the starer devoted full attention to the staree's image on the television monitor. In the first experiment, 16 untrained participants evidenced significant autonomic discrimination, becoming more activated during staring than during nonstaring periods. In the second experiment, 16 subjects who had been extensively trained to become more aware of their interconnections with other people and less defensive about their connectedness also evidenced significant autonomic discrimination, but became more calm during staring than during nonstaring periods; the starer had been similarly trained. As judged by effect sizes, unconscious autonomic detection did indeed appear to yield stronger effects than did previous conscious verbal or motoric detection assessments. In the present paper, we present our attempts to replicate and extend our previous findings. Identical equipment, basic procedures, and analysis methods were used. The first replication involved 3 new starers and 30 new starees. The second replication involved the same starer who had participated in the earlier experiments reported in 1993, but employed 16 new starees. We made two additions in these studies. One of these was the introduction (into Replication 2) of an additional empirical control condition. This was a "sham control" in which we treated sessions and data as we did for real staring sessions, but staring did not, in fact, occur; this provided an empirical assessment of the likelihood of obtaining chance discriminations of otherwise equivalent session segments. The second improvement was the introduction of a new personality assessment for the starees in both replications. In addition to the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) we had been using in the original studies, we included an assessment of social anxiety or discomfort in a social situation (a Social Avoidance and Distress scale), in order to explore the possible interrelationships of these personality characteristics with the autonomic staring detection effect. OVERVIEW: We show how the collective intelligence of humanity can be accessed via a commonly sens... more OVERVIEW: We show how the collective intelligence of humanity can be accessed via a commonly sensed consciousness: 1) the physics and cosmology which support this; 2) our ability to demonstrate this scientifically; and 3) how this can be achieved conceptually and practically, via education, films, and social media. 1 ABSTRACT: It is argued that an effective way to view consciousness is as a "superposition" of existence and nonexistence, producing an indivisible experience of "nonlocal being", plus who and what we perceive ourselves to be (local observers). This relationship between an observerbased localization and the nonlocal whole is examined. Using ideas from general relativity and quantum mechanics (QM), we suggest how a space-time continuum (GR)-including QM probability and uncertainty, as properties of consciousness-may have arisen as dynamic complementarities. Opportunities to contemplate the origins of existence are investigated, and corresponding experimental studies are suggested.

A nagging problem has existed in the way we regard the local physical world around us and the non... more A nagging problem has existed in the way we regard the local physical world around us and the non-local universe at large since the very beginning development of our philosophical and scientific attitudes toward the external world. That problem deals with the dualistic way in which we parse the physical world itself through geometry. Geometry can be based upon two different elements: the extension-or metric-element of Riemann and the point-element. Riemannian geometry can be fixed by expanding it to include the point-element, but even that is not enough. A further physical advance can be made by adopting the idea of the 0-D point Void, first developed intuitively by Sperry Andrews, but understanding the physical role of the 0-D point Void can only be realized by expanding that notion by adopting the physical concept of a discrete geometrical point/twist. It is only when a discrete 0-D point/twist Void replaces the simple point-element missing in the Riemannian system of differential geometry of surfaces that post-modern physics fulfills its promise. Understanding the concept of a point-element, of course, is necessary to understand how the Riemannian geometry has been used in general relativity as well as how it can be expanded to unify all of modern physics, including quantum theory, under a single geometrical paradigm. Whether a scientist is considering the discrete pointparticles of the Standard Model or the existence of point singularities in relativity theory, the concerns are exactly the same, which forces the concept of an individual 0-D discrete point void to the center of the unification process. In either case, the human Mind and Consciousness are perceiving and interpreting the physical/material world that science is attempting to theoretically describe so the ultimate question of Consciousness and how it interacts with the Mind/brain as well as our commonly experienced physical reality also needs to be answered within the context of the 0-D point/twist. In other words, this is the point (no pun intended) where scientific logic and non-scientific intuition come together to give a complete theoretical structure of our commonly shared physical reality. Toward that end, the only logical scientific precedent to understand anything like the 0-D point/twist in all of the history of science is only found in the notion of a tesseract, which dates from the late nineteenth century attempts to 'realize' the concept of a hyperspace in the absence of being able to detect them through astronomical observations so that a hyperspace geometry could be used to explain nature. The end product of understanding these concepts is a greater insight into how the single field theory explains a much wider range of physical phenomena than any single previous paradigm of physics.

The CQ-i evaluates patterns of behaviors, attitudes, and attentional styles as well as the usage of conscious skills, awareness, and the capacity to “feel awake and alive,” providing a complex exploration of conscious experience. A set of 237 items covering major aspects of the subjective conscious experience was selected to detect the phenomenal patterns of subjective conscious experience. An exploratory factor analysis on a large sample (N = 2,360), combined with our previous meta-research on conceptual convergence of conscious experiences, revealed that these experiences appear to have 15 patterns common to all of us. From time to time, most of us have had such a feeling, which appears to be a common part of the human experience. In surveys conducted in California (Coovet, 1913) as early as 1913, 68% to 86% of respondents reported having had the feeling of being watched or stared at on at least one occasion, and a more recent Australian survey (Williams, 1983) placed the figure at 74%. In a survey of San Antonio respondents recently completed as part of the present project, the figure was found to be approximately 94%. Despite its widespread occurrence and familiarity, the staring experience has been subjected to surprisingly little scientific scrutiny. The ‘certainty’ realized in this autobiographical sketch has been proving fundamental to humanity's spiritual freedom from (what could become needless) suffering. I find when groups use their words to point to what is (non-verbally) felt and sensed (by all-of-us) that a commonly sensed empathic sensitivity emerges within each of us and all of us.

 Through formless awakeness, without a body, heart, or mind in an N.D.E. at age four, combined with the realizations shared-here--as the basis for this discussion--and from forty-years of trial-and-error with groups (internationally), I learned to show anyone interested how to explore a commonly-sensed-empathy in-person, as well as online.
As the founder/director of the Human Connection Institute (HCI) in 1990, I have collaborated with eminent scientists and educators throughout the world, conducting both objective and experiential research into the emergence of a commonly sensed consciousness. Beichler to whom I owe a great debt of gratitude for rigorously exploring these insights in his own publications and also co-authoring a paper published in these proceedings. I have quoted him here in recognition of our mutual understanding and referenced how he has addressed these insights in many of his papers in my bibliography. It is shown here how point-centered processes could have generated all phenomena and the expansion of our universe including non-material consciousness. He and I agree that a dimensionless mechanism, its dimensional byproducts, and measurements could have produced what is physical, emotional, mental, soulful, and spiritual.

As formless awakeness, without a body, heart, or mind in an N.D.E. at age four, and as an experiential scientist since 1983, I have been exploring humanity’s capacity to share a commonly-sensed consciousness.
To further the evolution of a socially altruistic heart-centered intelligence and two-way telepathic awareness, I founded the Human Connection Institute in 1990, facilitated hundreds of groups internationally for forty years, learned to teach anyone interested how to effectively recreate these experiences in-person, as well as online via webcam, largely for free, and gave invited presentations on human interconnectedness and the
Human Connection Project at the University of Connecticut ('88/'89), the Association for Research and Enlightenment ('90), the United Nations ('92), World Business Academy ('93/'94), Duke University ('95), the Foundations of Mind conferences, U.C. Berkeley (2014/’15), and ASCSI conference in Raleigh, NC (2018).

By sharing the experience of being a single body, heart, and mind with thousands of individuals, I have witnessed and demonstrated inter-subjectively, as well as objectively that anyone can access a commonly sensed unconditionally loving intelligence. My years of experiential research confirms that this can happen rapidly and reliably without effort—even with total strangers. Our capacity to share a "common sense" appears to be the next step in human evolution, as it may well prove essential to our survival as a species.

Intuitive consciousness and the logic of single field physics: A conscious synergy of worldviews and theories

Many scientists have come to believe that any true unification model in physics must include a co... more Many scientists have come to believe that any true unification model in physics must include a concept of consciousness as well as a model for the mind that interprets the external physical/material world. And, that number is growing. This particular physical model does just that. In fact it goes much further. Since Beichler's single field theory (SFT) includes a physical model of the neural net and explains how Mind and Consciousness can emerge from the physics of living organisms, it assimilates more intuitive models such as Andrews' 0-D point Void which witnesses and co-creates higher-dimensional Riemannian geometrical realities as well as other more generalized physical models of consciousness to form a truly synergistic model of reality. In other words, physical reality and the consciousness that perceives and interprets that reality both come from the same source, they are co-created at the very beginning of the universe. A singular discrete 0-D point/twist Void emerged within the absolute spaceless-timeless Void of nothingness that preceded everything and through a logical sequence of events produced everything that now exists as our universe. This synergistic model goes well beyond the notion of Mind and Consciousness as mere perceivers and interpreters of the external material/physical world. It clearly demonstrates that the precursors to our experience of Consciousness are fundamental elements and active participants in creating the physical world that we perceive and scientifically interpret through the application of physics. Andrews' intuitive approach to consciousness science It is well known that intuitives are often the very people who intimately experience first-hand knowledge of consciousness. Their views of consciousness and the inner workings of the world in general greatly differ from those of ordinary people and the majority of scientists. Even the word 'intuition' has been looked down upon in science as recently as a few decades ago. Most scientists consider their own worldview above reproach, believing their insights are based upon acute observations of the external world around them. In general, scientists have historically looked down upon all types of intuitive knowledge and have obstinately refused to consider intuitive knowledge of consciousness and how it works in relation to the world as a whole. They view intuitive data with suspicion as no more than anecdotal evidence, without any scientific validity. Yet that evidence or data, anecdotal or not, can provide valid observations of consciousness and how consciousness works in the world at large. So to those few scientists willing to seriously consider information from intuitives, it can seem as though conservative scientists are wrong on this issue, as well as overly biased by acting completely in an unscientific manner within the broader meaning of science itself. Keeping this in mind, it is both interesting and informative to consider insights brought forward by Sperry Andrews whose undergraduate degree in science and ongoing study has been enhanced as a Near Death Experiencer (NDEr) from the age of four, over sixty years ago. Andrews has proposed a speculative bottom-up theory in physics of everything originating from nothing.
