The Computer Lab has 26 computers with specialized GIS, data analysis, data visualization, and business data software. It is intended for library workshops as well as individual use.
Each computer has two monitors. A number of the workstations (those at the end of each row) are equipped with height-adjustable desks.
Location
The Computer Lab (Room ML 103) is located on Floor 1 near the tunnel entrance.
Availability
The Computer Lab is open during Library hours.
Unless a workshop is scheduled in the lab, the computers in the lab are available for individual use.
The Computer Lab is not available for external bookings. If you are interested in requesting and working with us to develop library instruction to support your course, please visit the Library Instruction page.
Alternatives
If you need to access the workstations while a workshop is in session, there are alternatives you can try:
- The specialized GIS and data software can be accessed through the VMware Horizon Client installed on any of the public workstations in the Library. You can also access the applications remotely from your own computer.
- Bloomberg Professional can be accessed from two terminals located in the Nicol Building near the main entrance (level 2).
Software
All computers in the lab have a standard student lab image with several software applications available, including standard office applications as well as course-related software. This includes:
- ArcGIS Pro
- Gephi
- MATLAB
- NVivo (Release version 1)
- QGIS
- R and RStudio
- SAS (until August 2024 as the software used to provide lab access to SAS has been discontinued)
- SPSS
- Stata
In addition, all computers have the following specialized software applications available through the VMware Horizon Client application:
- ArcGIS Pro
- DWG TrueView
- FME
- Global Mapper
- QGIS
There are also 8 computers that can be used to access Bloomberg Professional.
Printing
You can use the CUontheGO service to print to any of the printers in the Library (see floor maps for locations) or elsewhere on campus.
