Whether it’s a self-initiated project, a commission by leading companies and organisations or her serial entrepreneurial initiatives, Leyla’s creative productions all focus on activating positive social and environmental change by and through design.

Creative Change-Making as a Practice

Leyla’s approach combines many fields of science with systems thinking and design to create immersive experiences, interactive installations, experiential education and playful creative thinking toolkits.

Leyla has initiated several organisations and projects to help agitate and activate change by engaging more people with the pressing issues of our day in creative and achievable ways.

Many of her projects have won awards, been selected for display in cultural institutions and have been used by leading organisations around the world.

The UnSchool of Disruptive Design

An global experimental knowledge lab that helps professionals and emerging leaders upskill to advance their careers in sustainability, social innovation and creative problem solving.

Disruptive Design Method

Leyla developed the Disruptive Design Methodology and Method as a framework for creative problem-solving, leveraging systems thinking, sustainability and design to create positive social and environmental impact.

CoProject Farm

A living learning lab, brain spa and organic farm regeneration project in Central Portugal, established and managed by Leyla Acaroglu from 2017 to 2021 as an exploration into natural systems participation, small-scale organic agriculture and community activation.

LinkedIn Learning

In partnership with LinkedIn, Leyla was invited to create three courses for their learning platform, resulting in engaging, informative and actionable sustainability skills with over 150,000+ learners worldwide taking the courses to date.

Anatomy of Action

In collaboration with the United Nations, this evidence-based creative campaign is used worldwide to activate sustainable living and lifestyles. This multi-pronged project covers social media, video, web, and research output as a data validation report. With the toolkit and assets, individuals are encouraged to join the “15 Ways in 15 Days Take Action Challenge” to spread the word and activate others in their sphere of influence.

A collaboration with an innovation company for the Finnish Education System to develop engaging and practical in-class resources on the circular economy, sustainability and creativity.

Eco Innovators

For over a decade, Eco Innovators pioneered unique ways of creating educational experiences that activate social and environmental change. Based in Australia and founded in 2009, Eco Innovators developed and launched a host of projects that helped jump-start and integrate sustainability into design practice. A trailblazing creative agency, it was one of the first initiatives of its kind to actively demonstrate how design approaches could be used as tools for sustainability education.

Great for use in schools, universities, and design studios around the world, the award-winning Design Play Cards help players explore and frame creative problem-solving through the lens of design for sustainability and tackle everyday design faults.

An award-winning animation and educational initiative that unpacks the life cycle of everyday things for designers to learn about eco-design and life cycle thinking.

A 5-day interactive workshop that brought together 5 artists and 5 designers to reimagine damaged and discarded landfill-bound items, culminating in a public exhibition celebrating repair and 2 days of free public repair sessions.

Make Change Handbooks

A series of handbooks to help people activate their own agency for positive change. Over five years Leyla authored Five handbooks and in 2024, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the UnSchool, she released an updated compendium of all five in one book.
