☆ The J2 photo-shoot video was highly amusing. Could they be any more awkward? Were there hands magnetically attached to their pockets? Were they playing with themselves? Who can tell?

☆ For someone who doesn't play computer games, I have become totally addicted to Sushi Cat. I can't help it. i'm a spinster. And there is a cat. It's like the LAW that I love this.

☆ Ugliest Tattoos is a time-sucking joy. Many of the pics on there show people confusing YOUR and YOU'RE. You'd think if you were going to get a big, blazing chest piece, a two second spell check would be on your agenda perhaps? Some WTF pics:

I've been mulling. Not strenuously or anything. More like a nice gentle low-key mull. But still...

I love: The West Wing, Mad Men, Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, the Daily Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Law & Order Criminal Intent [D'onofrio yo!], Sherlock yadda yadda yadda. 

So why is it, I'm only 'in fandom' for two things: Supernatural and Adam Lambert? 

What is it about these two that have made me want to write fic and start a com? What's lacking from my relationships with the other shows that I haven't done this? Why do I love reading fic about these two, but am not interested in the others? The only things I've worked out is that it's not an attraction thing, because Jon Stewart makes both my eyes and my brain verrrry happy, and that it's not necessarily a 'I LOVE THESE THE MOST' thing, as I think I get just as excited for a new Tony Leung movie as I do for a new series of SPN, and I don't believe it's an existing fandom thing as there's people out there involved in fandoms for everything and anything.

And then there are the anomalies like Stargate Atlantis where I love reading the fic, but that's pretty much the limit of my involvement. Huh.

Is it the same for you guys? Or are you fannish about everything that you really love?

♥ I was having thoughts this morning about why I'm so excited by Adam Lambert. Mainly, it's because I think his voice is an amazing fucking instrument. But it's also because he reminds of a quote from the late great Bill Hicks. It's over a decade old, but still feels just as relevant when I think about all the shit Adam gets for daring to be himself in this day and age.

This is made clear near the end of the Montreal set where Hicks rants about the poor state of contemporary, state-sanctioned pop, the kind of tuneless, harmless pabulum hailed by the authorities as representing 'a good image for children'. "Since when did mediocrity and banality become a good image for your children? I want my children to listen to people who fucking ROCKED! I don't care if they died in puddles of their own vomit! I want someone who plays from his fucking heart! 'Mummy, mummy, the man Bill told me to listen to has a blood bubble coming from his nose!' 'SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO HIM PLAY'." This followed by an astonishing sequence of mimed obscenities; an image summoned up of clean-cut New Kids on the Block fans goose-stepping, giving the Hitler salute and shouting 'Heil! Heil!' then ‘sucking Satan's cock’.      source

♥ It also led me to think about another criticism that Adam often gets: that he's not authentic. If we really are in that stage of post-postmodernism where 'authenticity' is understood as a return to what is seen as the traditional, then I find it very sad. Not only because it's a tradition that never existed but also because I dislike the implied judgment of authentic being good and inauthentic being the other. It speaks of a conservatism that I am always [naively?] hoping we are moving past.

So to cheer myself up, I've updated another recs list. This time it's the domestic bliss one, otherwise known as already in a relationship fic recs. I've got to give big thanks tomoorspede for giving me hand when google went evil nuts.

So many fics to read. So little time. I haven’t read nearly as many spn_j2_bigbang fics as I’ve wanted to. The sum total of Sam/Dean fics that I’ve read has been 3! Lame. That said, I loved each of them (The incestuous courtship of the antichrist's bride, Always You, without time or space and Crush). All very different and all enjoyable in very different ways save for the fact that I think they’re well written. I’ve read more J2 fics because that’s my fandom bag and, man, they’re making me happy. As are all the non big bang fics. In fact, I’m in a happy little fic reading bubble.

Hence the recs now, as my list of stories that I wanted to go YAY about has gotten pretty long.

Huh. Seems like I haven't recced any new fic in ages. Which is sad because there's been so much good stuff (that you've probably already read) that this turned into a bit of a monster list. I'll add the AUs and first times into the new main lists over the weekend. The rest will just have to wait until later because my attention span is small and it will be big bang soon :)

So in my ongoing attempt to make life easier for myself, I've revamped another recs list into an easier format. This time it's:
There's been some amazing new stuff recently & I want to be able to rec those fics without crying at the thought of coding, so this needed doing first.

So because about three people on my flist wanted it, including birthday girl siubhlach , here are the same J2 AU fic recs - but this time organised by theme rather than alphabetically.




Man, themeing is really hard to do. I've tried to put them in categories based mainly on genre or job if it impacts story, but chances are I got it horribly wrong. If there are any you think really don't fit, let me know :D
