ECS training group
The CRC TRR338 focuses on developing and applying advanced techniques in lymphocyte engineering for adoptive immunotherapy, fostering close collaboration between TUM, LMU, and JMU. This complex, interdisciplinary field poses significant challenges for PhD candidates and postdocs, requiring knowledge across chemistry, biology, medicine, and clinical research.
Building on strong local support structures, the ECS Training Program offers a dedicated qualification program for PhD and MD candidates. It promotes cross-site, interdisciplinary training, covering genetic engineering, biomathematical modeling, GMP-compliant cell manufacturing, clinical trial preparation and industry partnership.
In the second funding period, the ECS Training Program will continue to offer a joint educational program on Advanced Lymphocyte Engineering, actively supported by expert LETSimmun members and also external volunteers/guests (e.g. Dr. Lothar Germeroth, successful entrepreneur, co-founder and former CEO of cell therapy companies like STAGE cell therapeutics, T CELL Factors, Repairon Heart, Repairon Immuno has offered to participate in the program by sharing his insights from the industry perspective). PIs and senior postdocs will also contribute to related lectures and seminars at the bachelor’s and master’s level. Additionally, CRC TRR topics will be integrated into medical curricula in hematology, oncology, and immunology to engage future clinician scientists early on.
Andrea Schmidts (TUM), Sebastian Kobold (LMU) and Sophia Danhof (JMU) coordinate the implementation of the ECS Training Program measures at each location and the integrative structure of the ECS Training Program.
