from it, is the... more Going back to thinking of truth in the age of post-truth and nihilistic discharge
from it, is the challenge that this work intends on tackling. Now that
the season of suspicion on truth is beginning to show its cracks, it seems like
we are finally seeing the conditions for restarting with a serene mind on a
reflection that was maybe too quickly be archived as ideological. But this renewed
attention doesn’t automatically mean also having found the solution
to the problems that the matters keep posing. What is truth? What makes
truth true? And also: where can we find access to truth? What’s the relationship
of mankind with truth? This work tries to answer these questions, starting
from a comparison with Parmenides, a thinker that among the first has
given great theoretical importance to the matter.

work is provided by the extent of the discussion
of the relationship between the doctrine of the
truth and the doctrine of opinion as are dealt
with in Parmenidean thought and work.
Rejecting the vision of any separation or
opposition between the two parts in which the
Parmenidean poem has traditionally been
divided, I argue in favour of its theoretical unity.
In this way, the ontology lays the foundations
for an innovative explanation of natural
phenomena. After having highlighted how this
unity is required by the general structure of
Parmenides' thought, I show how the B4 DK
fragment represents the place where Parmenides
constructs the passage from ontology to the
explanation of natural phenomena.

L'orizzonte interpretativo entro cui questo lavoro si inserisce è quello della discussione del rapporto tra la dottrina dell'essere e quella dell'opinione nel poema di Parmenide. Rifiutando la prospettiva di una qualche separazione o opposizione tra le due parti in cui esso tradizionalmente viene diviso, sostengo la tesi dell'unità teorica del Poema. Dopo aver mostrato come una tale unità sia richiesta dall'impianto generale del pensiero di Parmenide, individuo nel frammento 4 il luogo in cui Parmenide articola il passaggio tra le due dottrine. Il Poema offre pertanto una positiva visione della realtà, dove l'ontologia pone le premesse di un'originale spiegazione dei fenomeni naturali.

In his work, Rossetti wants to promote another Parmenides, who seems to have nothing to deal with... more In his work, Rossetti wants to promote another Parmenides, who seems to have nothing to deal with the image that the tradition of school textbooks has transmitted to us. Rossetti thinks we must have the courage to leave this image, for a new beginning of Parmenidean hermeneutics. The image of Parmenides must change: it is not simply or first of all the philosopher of being, but above all a sophos extremely attentive to understanding the real world. In my study, I discuss this thesis by emphasizing the usefulness of Rossetti’s efforts for a richer understanding of Parmenides’ thinking, especially his naturalistic interests. And at the same time, I notice that Rossetti’s interpretation produces an unjustified division between the question of being and knowledge of the world. The conclusion is that we have acquired an extremely sharp and versatile mind, as Rossetti says, but we have lost an intelligent and deep philosopher in the interpretation of the human condition.

In esse, l'autore si sofferma sul momento 'ideazionale' delle teorie dei tre Eleati invitando a concentrarsi su aspetti che la letteratura critica ha tradizionalmente tralasciato o sui quali non si è soffermata con la dovuta attenzione. Ne derivano, per un verso, una radicale valorizzazione della seconda parte del Poema parmeni deo, e per l'altro, la riscoperta dei meriti dei suoi epigoni: la sorprendente abilità di Zenone nel costruire argomenti paradossali e la capacità di Melisso nel comporre un lungo ragionamento consequenziale. Le lezioni sono precedute da una guida alla lettura dei curatori e sono seguite dagli interventi di M. Brémond, R. Cherubin, N.-L.

The scholar represents the Parmenidean Poem as a mystical experience where sounds, words and images communicate and produce a real approach to the divine reality at the same time. This intriguing reading, which closely follows that offered by Kingsley, understimates the problems and cognitive structures of rational thought in the poem. Thus Parmenides appears to be a shaman rather a philosopher.
