Il s&#8217;agit d&#8217;un format de syndication pour la publication \u00e9lectronique s&#8217;appuyant sur ATOM (<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ietf.org\/rfc\/rfc4287.txt\">RFC4287<\/a>) et le protocole HTTP (<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ietf.org\/rfc\/rfc2616.txt\">RFC2616<\/a>). Il permet l&#8217;agr\u00e9gation, la distribution, la d\u00e9tection et l&#8217;acquisition de publications \u00e9lectroniques. OPDS utilise des standards ouverts existants ou \u00e9mergeants, en mettant l&#8217;accent sur la simplicit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Un workshop autour de ce projet aura lieu \u00e0 San Francisco en Octobre 2009. Il permettra de faire la d\u00e9monstration du projet Bookserver d&#8217;Internet archive, qui fonctionnera avec OPDS Catalog et am\u00e9liorera son projet <a href=\"http:\/\/openlibrary.org\/\">Open Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>En savoir plus sur l&#8217;\u00e9v\u00e9nement : <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opencontentalliance.org\/2009\/07\/17\/making-books-apparent\/\">http:\/\/www.opencontentalliance.org\/2009\/07\/17\/making-books-apparent\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Le Centre pour l&#8217;\u00e9dition \u00e9lectronique <\/strong><strong>ouverte<\/strong><strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/cleo.cnrs.fr\">Cl\u00e9o<\/a>)\u00a0 soutient cette initiative.<\/strong> Il consid\u00e8re qu&#8217;il s&#8217;agit l\u00e0 d&#8217;un dispositif indispensable (comme le fut en son temps le protocole&#8217;OAI-PMH) permettant la mise en place d&#8217;un v\u00e9ritable \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me ouvert et vivant du livre \u00e9lectronique. L&#8217;enjeu le plus important, aujourd&#8217;hui, est de permettre l&#8217;\u00e9panouissement d&#8217;un grand nombre d&#8217;entrep\u00f4ts de livres \u00e9lectroniques et d&#8217;un grand nombre de libraires \u00e9lectroniques, permettant d&#8217;\u00e9viter le syndr\u00f4me du goulet d&#8217;\u00e9trangelement \u00e9voqu\u00e9 dans <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.homo-numericus.net\/article193.html\">Gutenberg, ce criminel<\/a> et dans <a href=\"http:\/\/leo.hypotheses.org\/1024\">Et si Itunes avalait tous vos livres?<\/a> L&#8217;enjeu est \u00e9conomique. Il est culturel. Il est politique. C&#8217;est un enjeu de soci\u00e9t\u00e9 qui ne doit pas \u00eatre r\u00e9duit \u00e0 une question technologique. Bien au contraire, il s&#8217;agit d&#8217;un choix de soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Souhaitons-nous confier le contr\u00f4le de la diffusion des livres \u00e9lectroniques \u00e0 5 ou 10 acteurs majeurs dans le monde (au hasard : Apple, Amazon, Google) ou souhaitons-nous permettre la naissance de multiples canaux d&#8217;\u00e9mission de livres et de multiples canaux de distributions de livres? En posant la question, on lui apporte une r\u00e9ponse.
