PART 1:<\/p>

-I fanboy'ed a little over Leomon and Ogremon, ngl<\/p>

-Mimi's haaaaaatttt and outttfiiitttt<\/p>

-Dear god, the fanservice<\/p>

-!!! I like the fanservice =3=<\/p>

-Antics!  Antics galore!  (Not sure how I feel about that, but that's largely what happened in this episode, hahah)<\/p>

-Pff Koushiro you dummy.  Mimi generally does have good taste, though, so you can't go wrong. :p<\/p>

-Takari shout-out, woot woot (I guess?)<\/p>

-Something's gotta give here with Joe, and I think it's gonna be soon.  Poor Gomamon.<\/p>

-Meicoomon is at Champion level (although hey, it's nice that they kept the "child"\/"adult" terminology in the subs)!  Meicoomon is also really cute.  And so is Meiko, tbh.  Again, she should annoy me, but...she doesn't.<\/p>

-Mysterious government people are ex'es, hm?  Is their history significant or will it just be played for lulz?  Obviously they still have some tension so we'll see where that goes.<\/p>

-I like that Sora is being more involved, and it's cool that she interacts with Koushiro now.  That used to be one of the character combos that never really happened...like, ever.  (Now, inevitably, I expect to see some people ship it just because they share screen time...but I hope not, 'cuz I just want them to be bros.  I think of them as the Keep Taichi In Check Team. XD  But Taichi still gonna do what Taichi wants and brood about Yamato rrgh this is not the ship fodder I want, but I sincerely hope Taito fangirls are having their fun over this :<\/strike>)<\/p>

PART 2:<\/p>

-Augh more tropes more tropes<\/p>

-Really?  That kind of thing is popular in America?  Because it seems like the kind of thing that's popular (in a niche sort of way, of course) in Japan…Unless maybe this "DATER'S" thing is supposed to be modeled on Hooters, or something?  ...Actualy, maybe it is. XD;<\/p>

-Okay I REALLY LOVE MIMI.  I don't think I've appreciated her so much in the past.  When she was a KID, she came off more as selfish and annoying, like she was just not mature enough to put aside childish impulses.  However, now that she's closer to grown up, we can see that she has examined her own behavior and CHOSEN to be straightforward.  You go, girl!<\/p>

-Is it wrong that I want to ship Mimi and Meiko, maybe just a little bit?<\/p>

-Whoa, Koushiro!  Well, I'm really happy he's being straightforward as well, instead of putting some kind of halo over Mimi's head.  YES.<\/p>

-This is apparently The One Where Everyone Dumps Their Feelings and Opinions, and I'm kind of fine with that.  Thanks for saying what everyone was thinking about Joe, Yamato.<\/p>

-I think Leomon has the same voice from the original series, if I'm not mistaken.  Yay!<\/p>

-Ohhhh Mimi and Jooooeee, sweet babies.  T-T I really liked that they had that conversation.  ...Such as it was.  I wonder, what was the point of having Hikari overhear that?  Maybe we'll see…<\/p>

PART 3<\/p>

-Awgh, I really love Hikari's sweater in the scene where she's talking to Taichi in their room. <3  And okay, I guess that's the reason they had her listening?  …So she could prod her brother to do something about Joe? (shrug)<\/p>

-::Gasp:: Nooo, Gomamon!!  Well, I don't blame him, really…<\/p>

-I like Koushiro's Koi shirt.  A lot. =w=<\/p>

-Okay, they got me.  I'm becoming interested in the history between Nishijima and Himekawa…Childhood friends, now, eh?<\/p>

-Er…um, yeah, I think I'm starting to ship Mimi and Meiko.  What can I say…They are SO adorable together.  And they're bringing out the best in each other like whoa, which is honestly the basis for most of my ships, so there.<\/p>

-The above reasoning re: shipping is probably why I'm not so into Taito.  That animosity thing doesn't do it for me.  But again, there seems to be a lot to love here for those who ARE into it, so color me amused, at least. :3<\/p>

-::Sigh:: It's kind of painfully obvious sometimes that they had a low-ish animation budget.  I mean c'mon.  Our gals are supposed to be entertaining, and instead the viewers get a slideshow?<\/p>

-Dammit Koushiro, why do you have to be so heterosexual??  Stop ruining my headcanon! ::sobs forever::<\/strike><\/p>

-I've been having trouble figuring out whether Meicoomon is supposed to be a boy or a girl, but I guess the "-chan" says "girl," and now Leomon's smitten with her, too.  Well, she IS a super cutie pie, so I can't blame him.  I thought Tailmon kinda getting into Leomon's lap was weird, though. O_o<\/p>

-Is Takeru into Meiko or something?  If so, he's playing it really cool.  But he DOES seem to be paying an inordinate amount of attention to her.  Maybe it's just a coincidence, or he's just trying to be nice and meet lots of people, like he is apt to do.<\/p>

PART 4<\/p>

-Gwaaaahhhh ~ Joe and Gomamon have always had the depeest Human-Digimon relationship in this show, and this latest installment does NOT disappoint.  Friggin-- UGH!  Even if they disagree and don’t want to talk about it, they GET each other.  They NEED each other.<\/p>

-Gasp!  They acknowledged Ken Ichijouji!  But Takeru used "aitsu" implying distance… And Imperialdramon is under his control - whut?  STILL SO MANY QUESTIONS.
-I really liked seeing Hikari confront Joe.  Now I guess it makes sense that they showed her overhearing the earlier conversation.  She's quiet, sensitive and astute - and the only one who has really been keeping tabs on this boiling tension.  And so the youngest (I think) and the oldest Digidestined meet head-to-head, and Joe is taken down a peg because age doesn't matter. :><\/p>

-MEGAS MEGAS MEGAAAAS.  ::fangasm::  Although it's a little dumb that they all just shrug it off, like, "Oh I've never seen that before [but wouldn't it have come in handy back during some of our other important fights?]."  Hey, this is getting me to think, though - Joe and Mimi get megas once they've "grown up" and solidified parts of their personalities.  Maybe that's kind of supposed to be a requisite condition for Mega, and Taichi\/Yamato got theirs too early?  (Or maybe just Taichi -- He seems unable to reconcile something here.  And he's the one who "pulled out" (XD;) of the Jogress evolution in the previous installment.)<\/p>

-Okay, now I remember why I always sorta shipped Joe and Mimi.  (I didn't really ship them hard, but I assumed they would make a good pair and kinda figured they would end up together, or something.)  I really like how they've always seemed to "get" each other.  It seems their connection continues to evolve (no pun intended...really.). :)<\/p>

-Oh DAMN.  (Just…everything after The Day Was Saved.)<\/p>

-Obviously Meicoomon was Important from the start.  But whyyyyyy and whaaaaat is going on?  Come back, sweet baby kitty!! T_T

Overall thoughts:
Okay, so tropey things were tropey, but fortunately, they were mostly used as a backdrop to get the characters to interact in interesting ways.  Yay!  There are still a lot of unanswered questions, but we're only 1\/3 of the way in, supposedly, so that's to be expected.  After seeing how they handled the focus on Mimi and Joe in this movie, I'm feeling optimistic about the character development we'll get for the others in future installments.  ...Also, I really kind of want a Meicoomon plushie. XD;<\/p><\/a>

Ok yeah, I have one nitpick with the "Butter-fly" translation.  Wasn't it always "ON my love"??  I'm pretty sure it was, and I'm choosing to believe that this version is transcribed incorrectly.<\/div>

Okay, I love how "real" all of the destruction seems this time around.  It's a little different than the cartoonish screams and running away from the original series...or maybe that's just a sub vs. dub thing.<\/div>

So...why exactly are they bringing Transfer-student-san into their secret group?  Do they suspect her of something yet?<\/div>

Overall impressions:<\/b><\/div>

Production values:<\/b><\/div>
The animation is kinda....maybe....not AS good as I expected?  The frame rate is, like, not quite as smooth as some other things these days, but hey, they did a lot with angles and outlines and really maximized what they had to work with (assuming that it WAS a budget limitation).  And compared to the original series....Well....Yeah.  It looks fantastic. XD<\/div>
The evolution sequences are kinda -- eh -- Let's just say I think they were better in Tamers?  But they were pretty cool, especially when each digi curled up to go inside that egg\/ball\/whatever.  And the CGI started to bug me less as time went on.<\/div>
The voices were great!  Nothing really stood out as being totally wrong about the casting.  Mimi didn't *quite* have the same flair that Ai Maeda-san lent to her, but it was close enough.<\/div>

The characters:<\/b><\/div>

I think I like how they have handled each character's growth (or lack thereof?) so far.  Here are my thoughts on each character:<\/div>

Taichi - Obviously the main character here, so he gets the most focus.  Even though his newfound hesitancy can be seen as (sort of) a natural development, I'd still like to know if anything in particular happened prior to this series to make him start thinking about things the way he does now.  I'm guessing not (or if something did happen, it was a private experience not shared by the others), since everyone else (especially Yamato) is really "WTH" about Taichi's behavior.  He's still willing to cooperate (scoping things out as resident Goggle Boy), at least.  I'm glad he's not hiding in his room, being all emo (like *cough* some characters).  I do think his current mood would be better supported if there had been some actual casualties that resulted from a battle in which he partook.  They went out of the way to make the news media say "miraculously, no serious injuries," but I think it would've made more sense if there had been.  Each time Taichi flashed back to "broken cell phone on the ground," I'm going to pretend he was seeing "broken bones" or something instead...PTSD-style?  I don't wish that on Taichi (or on the nameless victims), but...I'm grasping for a real solid explanation, here?!<\/div>

Yamato - He doesn't seem to have changed a whole lot.  Except that now, he finds himself on the opposite side of the war that he and Taichi have sort of been waging for years now.  That seems to be mostly a result of Taichi's shift in thinking.  What was the reason for introducing the fact that Yamato had "musical differences" with his bandmates and formed a new band?  They didn't really go into any detail about that, and I'd like to know more about it - It could help us understand more about Yamato's character now.  Did he change, or did his bandmates?<\/div>

Sora - IMO, Sora really got shafted in 02.  And what they chose to show of her were the passive, girly moments.  I have to wonder if they took some of the fanbase's backlash to heart and toughened her back up a little on purpose. :)  I'm not complaining one bit -- I want to see Sora be everything at once, because girls can be girly and sporty and mature\/motherly all at the same time if they want to.  Her sporty sweatshirt was a nice touch.  I love that she seemed genuinely interested in both Taichi's and Yamato's activities.  Speaking of Taichi and Yamato -- Yeah, she's pretty well wedged between them as a mediator at this point.  I think without her, their cold war would be at a total impasse.  And I'm assuming Sora is not dating either one of them during this timeline.  Perhaps she was never really dating Yamato in 02, either, just kind of...gravitating toward him for awhile.<\/div>

Mimi - I...Don't think Mimi has changed much?  Has she?  Well, that's okay.  We do need someone to be the Pinkie Pie<\/strike> cheerleader of the group.  Maybe she's actually more interested in some technical aspects, now, given the fact that she appears to listen more to Koushiro's long explanations than she did before?  Or maybe she's just messing with him... Who knows XD<\/div>

Koushiro - Ohhh, Koushiro.  He's still the same nerd (and mama's boy, a little?) that he always was, but with added features!  So, I wonder how long he has had this crush on Mimi?  It's pretty apparent, so I guess I can't deny that it's canon.  And the more I think about it, the more "Zen" I'm able to become about it.  I never liked Koumi in the past, but it really is cute to see Koushiro affected by something that is not data and not on a screen or digital in any way.  (Even though he made fashion digital for his personal convenience...which is awesome!)  I'm choosing to believe that he actually enjoys men's fashion for the sake of it, as well, and not just as a means to an end.  That would really balance out his character even more and, you know, just be super awesome!<\/div>

Joe - Poor Joe, still trapped in the same cycle.  I keep wanting to see him say "screw it!" even if it's just for a little while, because!  Air!  Life!  Lunches with friends!  Gomamon!  (And apparently this mysterious girlfriend??)  The best thing he said in this whole movie was "I'm the oldest, so I deserve a chance at happiness first!" LOL!!  Keep working at it, Joe.  Ganbatte ne. =w=<\/div>

Takeru - He's still kind of the same punk kid he was in 02, I think.  I like that he supports his brother's band, gives his brother a hard time sometimes, remains platonic(?) friends with Hikari, and apparently has a secret sort-of-girlfriend of his own.  (I want to meet her, too!)  I can totally see Takeru being that kind of "good kid" who takes it slow with a girl and invites her to a bunch of things and may never make the first move.  I guess we'll see if that pans out (maybe).  Also, he's apparently the Social Networker of the group, putting English skills to use.  I have to remember that Social Networking was in its infancy in 2005, so he's really kind of ahead of the trend, there.<\/div>

Hikari - Not sure if she's changed much, either.  As noted above, she still also gives her brother a hard time (Takeru and Hikari are the cutest partners-in-crime when it comes to stewarding\/bugging\/etc. their big brothers <3 Fufufu).  Her affinity for sweets is certainly adorable.  It didn't seem like she got to do much of anything noteworthy yet.  Mostly prodded Taichi along - heh.<\/div>

Meiko - Okay, I guess I'll try to stop calling her "Transfer-student-san".  She has a name, I guess. XD;  I still have to think there's more to her than just being another random Digidestined.  I presume we'll find out more as the series progresses.<\/div>

So I still don't get what's supposed to be going on with the 02 cast - Okay, they got struck down by some -- thing -- at some point?
And I'm assuming they were somehow erased from everyone else's memories, since they were not mentioned once?  Well, there's plenty of time for this show to Give Us Answers about that, so I'm content waiting until next time to find out...  I'm also content focusing on the original cast tbh, but I just hope they don't drag out that explanation until the very end in a "gotcha" kind of move, because that would be dumb.<\/div>

Not super tight, so far -- Seems like the basic "Digimon are emerging in the real world, oh noes" that we've seen several times already.  For some reason they're more powered up than before?  I'll give the series time to explain.  I'll bet there's something special about that Meicoomon, since it looked like she was a target in the final chase\/battle scene.<\/div>
It's realistic to assume there are government agents tracking Digimon activity, now (like where they went in Tamers).  So yay, points for that.  But, uh, the international community is only just now demanding answers?  The stuff that happened 6 years ago and 3 years ago would've been all over the worldwide media.  But...close enough, I guess.  They're trying. :P<\/div>
Who are we kidding, though -- The story is a pretense for us to see all of these characters back in action again, so how can I really complain?? B-)<\/div><\/a>

This weekend is Bronycon<\/a> in Baltimore.  I was just there (and had an awesome time at Otakon!  Thanks for everything, <\/a>citrus_cactus<\/b><\/a><\/span>!! ^.^) and even though I've already had tons of fun, I'm super sad to miss out on, like, the hugest of huge MLP fan events. ><

To top it off, I just idly looked up the My Little Pony Fair<\/a>, an official (Hasbro-sponsored) event that changes locations each year, and IT WAS IN MY CITY IN JUNE AND I MISSED OUT. How come I had no idea? (*\uff9f\uff9b\uff9f) I faaaaail as a fan, I guess.  (Plus, it was NOT advertised.  Anywhere.  At all.)  I actually had a fleeting moment of excitement when I saw "Chicago, IL," but then I saw the date in the corner and realized it had already happened. (\u2565\ufe23\ufe4f\u1dc5\u2565\u1dc5)

Well, at least I had a nice time watching My Little Pony Tales<\/a> this morning.  This is the one I actually remember most from my childhood.  It's not good<\/b>, really, but it's not half bad either!  It's definitely...of its era.  The designs are so pretty and sparkly sometimes, though - I can't help but feel girlish glee while watching it. :D :D

Cutest Nintendo art I've seen in awhile!  I love the genderswapped Mario & Luigi.  I noticed that this artist did a nice job of incorporating women of color and of larger sizes into her art...and not that either of those really applies to me, but I somehow appreciated the way she tackled it nonetheless.


This is apparently Kuromi, the Sanrio character, in human form.  I had no idea there was such a concept (in an "official" capacity, at least), but I looooove the design!  She's adorable!  That hair!  <3


My Meowstics lovin' some McDonalds together!  Citrus bought me the female Meowstic (right), but of course I had to keep the pair together!  (And someday maybe they'll have a baby Espurr so I can reenact some of these<\/a>, which are probably the real reason that I came to appreciate Meowstic so much. XD)
