reusachtig rijk dat een groot deel van Azië ... more Mantsjoes hebben meer dan 250 jaar geheerst over een
reusachtig rijk dat een groot deel van Azië besloeg, waaronder het
huidige China. In hun taal, die aan Mongools en Turks verwant is,
schreven ze miljoenen teksten die na hun ondergang in 1912 in de
doofpot zijn beland. Nu moderne Mantsjoes hun eigen taal en
traditie nieuw leven inblazen, probeert Mantsjoes toen en nu in
gedichten en gebeden aan de hand van originele teksten licht te
werpen op deze rijke cultuur.

At this point QingMaps is in Pre-Alpha. This means that the current software is still under active development and does not yet feature tools for anyone other than the back-end developers. We hope to receive your input and active involvement on this first milestone to further develop the functionalities of QingMaps.

De auteurs van Chinees in tien verdiepingen hebben een uitgebreide en hedendaagse methode voor het Mandarijn ontwikkeld om aan de vergrote vraag naar kennis over de Chinese taal te voldoen. Het tekstboek werpt licht op onderwerpen die betrekking hebben op de Chinese taal en grammatica, en de cultuur van heden en verleden. Dit tekstboek biedt een schat aan informatie over de Chinese cultuur. De moderne relevantie wordt duidelijk aan de hand van uitspraakoefeningen in gedichtvorm, culturele en historische verwijzingen, verhalen over roemrijke historische figuren en interessante feiten over de evolutie van Chinese karakters. The fourth khan of the originally inner-Asian Manchus, Elhe Taifin (r.1661–1722), initiated a pro... more The fourth khan of the originally inner-Asian Manchus, Elhe Taifin (r.1661–1722), initiated a project to map his Daiqing Empire (1636–1912), of which a large part consisted of the Chinese territories. The resulting atlases, made up of individual sheets and entitled Overview Maps of the Imperial Territories (1719) presented the khan with an opportunity to show his people how far they had come since his great grandfather Nurhaci had attacked Ming China. This cartographic project gave the court a canvas to map its highly mythical identity-building narrative surrounding their origins wherein, amid a hyperbolic landscape, a heavenly, immortal maiden became pregnant with the Manchu primogenitor by eating a red berry. The dissemination of this myth was made into a priority of the court, but so was the imperial policy on increasing cartographic consistency. The clash of these two agendas (myth vs. accuracy), and its translation onto the Overview Maps, forms the topic of this study.

Conclusie en aanbeveling: Als we aspecten van de Chinese cultuur onderdeel willen maken van de vo... more Conclusie en aanbeveling: Als we aspecten van de Chinese cultuur onderdeel willen maken van de vorming van onze leerlingen Chinese taal en cultuur en het bovendien als een domein willen toetsen in schoolexamens, laat dan subdomein E1 (literatuur) de boventoon voeren en subdomein E2 (cultuur) zoveel mogelijk nauw met de taalles geïntegreerd worden het liefst met hele concrete en hele objectieve bestudering van een afgebakend cultureel aspect, waarbij wij als docenten ruimte moeten laten om de relativiteit van het idee Chinese cultuur lucht te geven. In culturele vergelijkingen moeten we als schoenmaker bij onze leest blijven. Formuleren van leerdoelen die te maken hebben met culturele patronen , zoals gewoontes, gebruiken, meningen, mentalitet, en verschillen daarin tussen mensen van verschillende komaf, moet zo gebeuren dat zowel docenten en leerlingen veilig zijn en gezien worden. Zo zullen we in de toekomst misschien wat minder schreeuwlelijken hebben.

In my keynote I emphasized that culture is not a thing, not is interculturality or multiculturali... more In my keynote I emphasized that culture is not a thing, not is interculturality or multiculturality. We should see culture as an aspect, divided in sources (tools, products, text, objects, buildings etc.) and patterns (written and unwritten rules, meanings, norms, values etc.). Every aspect has a range of its own, one that can shift in time or space. Aspects can vanish all together, but may even well partake in the making of new aspects. In this workshop I aim to show the value of using tangible objects in our Chinese Language and Culture class. An object has a social life of its own, within the social network of humans and other non-humans. We react to objects, and thus objects generate agency; communicating with us, getting involved in our language and emotions. They are tangible and concrete, and provide us with an inroad to connects our students’ linguistic knowledge to their other senses.
