But seriously, it was getting pretty weird that all my icons were still MCR icons, even though the only involvement I've had with them since 2007 is my massive hard-on for the Killjoys aesthetic. IDK, a teal-y icon of weirdos pawing at some glass feels pretty representative of my essential self. Moving on is hard. Etc.

Basically I feel exactly like when I got my last haircut, in that I loved those 10 inches of hair like a brother but they were WAY fried, plus it was kinda weird that the bottom half of my hair was way blonder than the top. YOU KNOW?

Patheticfax: Yesterday I was at school from 10AM to 10PM, and you wanna know what I did when I got home? Fiddle with this thing for an hour :( GRAPHIC DESIGN, YOU MAY HAVE WON MY HEART BUT YOU WILL NOT WIN MY FREEDOMMMM

Elaborating on the choices, since I've been wanting to talk about this stuff for years \/o\\:

1. Kristen McCabe<\/a>: Kristen blows me away. She does these drawings that are heavily stylized and sometimes a bit nasty, but they're SO solid. She's got great construction, style, composition, colouring, painting, tone, likenesses, the works.

2. Katie Rice<\/a>: Katie Rice, in like 2005, was the first time I ever found someone who, like me, just wanted to draw girls 24\/7. It was a pretty special experience, lol. I think probably she's gone a little downhill in the past couple years, but still, her drawings from that time had so<\/i> much life. She taught me a lot, like... the way craniums are shaped; how to structure faces; that droopy-eyed people are the best. Really stuck with me.

3. Mary Blair! Who doesn't love Mary Blair. She is the queen of insane flat shapes in perfect compositions. And those COLOURS.

4. Stefanie Achtnig<\/a>: I mostly look at her stuff if I want to see technical skill that defies the laws of like, science. SELL ME YOUR SECRETS, ACHTNIG!!!!<\/i> Not that there aren't a lot of freakishly skilled artists, but it's neat to find one that draws the kind of thing I'm most into (cartoon boobs)

5. Bill Watterson: Calvin and Hobbes :DDDD I've read that tenth anniversary anthology with the commentary on every page like, three times. It was so exciting to read about someone who cared about comic strips, like, maybe a little more than they deserve. COMIC STRIPS ARE ART!!!! I don't really want to admit how sincere I'm being right now.

6. John Kricfalusi<\/a>: John is the crankiest<\/i> old man. I was never really into Ren and Stimpy because I had lame taste as a kid, but his blog is way entertaining and really quite helpful. It's also really neat to see someone who is like, a million years old in artist years (55) who still works super hard at being a better artist. He just LOVES drawing. It's great.

7. Tiny Kitten Teeth<\/a>: I've never really come across someone who felt the same way as me about these guys, particularly about their Penny<\/a> Arcade<\/a> guest<\/a> strips<\/a> -- but these guys BLOW MY FUCKING MIND. They hand-paint<\/i> their regular comic strip and I'm PRETTY SURE that includes all the text, and the style is ANGLE. POETRY. with that perfect Mary Blair-ish style of gradation using the rough brush strokes. The colour schemes are the stuff that cracked out dreams are made of<\/i>. They've got MOOD and DIRECTION and DRAMA and unnngh, I'm like crying and jerking off every time I look at those strips. (A LOT OF TIMES)

8. Modern Dog<\/a>: These guys were the guest speakers at our end-of-the-year Open House last spring. It was REALLY great hearing from someone that yes, you can<\/i> be a great designer without selling your soul. They definitely changed the way I look at design.

SO I have recently become obsessed with The Like. Thanks, Ryan Ross, I guess. Originally I was interested because they're pretty and I want their clothes and they look like something out of funnycute<\/a>. But now all of the sudden I know all the words to half their songs! Which was an awesome surprise because I'm stupidly picky when it comes to music. I am obsessed with Z Berg's voice. IRL it's really deep, too *__*

Anyways, I'm sure there are things I should've been doing besides drawing a cartoon version of The Like's myspace<\/a> profile picture, and then ~vectorizing it, but. Well.

Second of all: where is all the Z Berg\/Tennessee?? This is a legitimate question, stfu. (Tennessee is the one on the far left and Z is the one next to her, btw) They have been good friends for a long time, they take cute pictures together, and my extensive research has led me to believe that Tennessee is 5'7 and Z is 5'4, so basically the fic should write itself. :D? :DD? I was gonna try to do an illustrative picspam, but I am lazy and really do<\/i> have other things I should be doing, so here one picture that I love:

(SIDENOTE: the dark-haired one is Charlotte Froom -- used to be their bassist, was replaced by Reni Lane and Laena Geronimo, rumored not to be amicable, blah blah blah. I am extremely curious as to what happened there, since in most of the photos I've seen with Z and Charlotte, they seem kinda cranky about each other's existence. Also! SPEAKING OF WHICH! Why do I find Singer SO unattractive? I mean, obviously the lion's share of bandom is pretty funny-looking when it comes down to it. But I've never been so REPULSED. I feel really bad about it, too! But I know my taste is super questionable. Seriously. I found Gerard attractive before<\/i> I got into bandom. Like, what?? He has hamster teeth! Come on, self.

I've been mentally and physically preparing myself all summer for the Graphic Design course I start in September, because apparently it's going to eat my life. Quitting my part-time job at the fabric store, getting shit out of the way. I wanted to draw a lot of pictures of Brendon while I had the time, because I like him and I draw people I like. Because I'm actually that precious. Anyways, not so much, though! I only managed a few doodles. I wanted to draw him him as a cartoon since that's *how I do*, but it's pretty much redundant. I love doing caricatures but I can't even do that because ALL OF HIS FEATURES are his prominent features. HOW DOES HE FIT ALL THAT ON HIS FACE? ♥Brendon♥

Anywho, I painted Vicky-T in ink a few times instead. I used a shitty old brush to be edgy or something. I think they turned out pretty okay, though! I want to post them to bandom_art but there are only three or four, and if you've ever looked at a Vicky-T picspam you can probably immediately tell which pictures I used as reference. Sigh, fail!art.

There's a lot of shit I could ramble about that actually doesn't pertain to fandom (I actually do have a Real Life! It's okay, I was surprised too) but I've done so much all summer that I wouldn't know where to begin (seriously, since when do I have a social life?). And it's scaaary. Maybe later.

Well, that felt nice! I'm cut-tagging though, because I have delusions of grandeur and I think people will actually read this. Alright.
