The page aims to inform managers how best to support engineers who decide to take the certification exam.

Determine Candidate Readiness

We outline the recommended candidate knowledge and experience level on the certification landing page.

The exam itself is hosting platform‑agnostic and suitable for all WordPress developers.

Preparation

Direct candidates to the certification landing page, which links to the exam and the training guides. The exam guide is the primary reference for understanding what the exam covers.

Encourage candidates to take the practice test, which helps them assess their readiness.

Exam Delivery

The exam is delivered by our assessment partner, Kryterion, via the Webassessor platform. Candidates may take the exam either through online proctoring or at any test center in Kryterion’s global network.

How Candidates Take an Exam

The process is straightforward:

  • Create a Webassessor account.
  • Select your preferred delivery method (online‑proctored or test centre).
  • Purchase the exam or redeem a voucher, then schedule your session.
  • If taking the online‑proctored option, complete the required pre‑exam preparation steps.

Exam Time Commitment

The exam itself lasts up to two hours. Candidates taking a test‑center appointment will need to factor in travel time.

For online‑proctored exams, candidates should allow an additional 30 minutes for the required pre‑exam setup and system checks, which must be completed at least one day before the exam.

Online Proctored Exam Specific Needs

Hardware

  • Candidates will need a computer on which the (Chromium based) Respondus LockDown web browser can be installed.
  • The machine must have a working webcam.
  • Candidates will need to use a mobile phone as a dual webcam for the side view of the desk. The camera app is browser based, with nothing to install. The mobile phone will need to be mounted on a stand or positioned in a way to provide a side view. Read more.

Respondus inspects active processes and requires all other applications to be closed before the exam can begin.

This can be challenging for candidates who use work machines with virtualization tools or development environments running, or for those who do not have permission to install software or modify system settings.

We recommend that candidates avoid using their work computers. A laptop with minimal installed software should ideally be made available, or candidates should be permitted to use a personal device.

Environment and Internet Connection

Online‑proctored exams require a quiet, uncluttered environment with no background noise and no other people present. A stable internet connection also required. Read more.

Exam Accommodations

Kryterion, our assessment provider, is equipped to support special accommodations for both test‑center and online‑proctored exams.

Review the Terms of Service

Particularly the cancellation, retake and privacy policy. Key points are:

  • Biometric data is not stored, it is only used for identity verification for online proctored exams.
  • Kryterion manage candidate exam data, not WordPress VIP. See Kryterion’s Privacy Policy.
  • If a test takers wishes their exam and candidate account data to be deleted, request this to [email protected].
