Layers of ink - Snowflake Art Journal Page Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

We have had unusually good winter, snow started to fall on the first of January and has remained since then, without the constant melting and refreezing routine that we usually have here. So I made an art journal page covered with beautiful snowflakes. The page was done in my Stamperia Mixed Media Happiness Journal.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Snowflake Season.

Start by white embossing snowflakes from Simon Says Stamp Snowflake Season. Leave room for the sentiment and white emboss that too. I used Tim Holtz Worn Text letters for the sentiment.

Paint with Daniel Smith watercolor paint.

Somehow I forgot to take a photo of the painting step. I had the photo set up, went to wash my hands and then forgot to take the photo. The page was first painted with water and then immediately with Daniel Smith: Phthalo Blue Turquoise, Amazonite Genuine, Moonglow and Lunar Black. When dry, I painted a shadow for the letters with Lunar Black.

Paint with Daniel Smith Pearlescent White.

I stamped words on the background. For shimmer, I painted a little Pearlescent White here and there.

Add Ranger Stickles.

Next, I added a little bit of Star Dust Stickles, to the edges and to the centers of the snowflakes.

Splatter with Winsor & Newton Permanent White.

Splatter with Winsor & Newton Permanent White Gouache. Here you can also see that I paired the page up with my snowman page from earlier this year. You can find that tutorial here.

The Lunar Black adds great texture, as does the splattering and glitter.

Here you can see the effect of the Pearlescent White paint better.

'One of a kind' also comes from Simon Says Stamp Snowflake Season.

The watercolor paint will pool inside some of the embossed shapes, as you can see on this snowflake.

Tim Holtz Worn Text stamps.

Adding a shadow to the letters helps them to stand out better on the background.

The sentiments on the strips come from Tim Holtz Tiny Text.

Stenciled Ledger Page

Hello crafters! Today I have another page to share made in my new Dina Wakley Ledger Journal.

Layers of ink - Stenciled Ledger Page by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

This is the very first page in my ledger journal and I decided to make a page about my paternal grandfather. He was the oldest child and therefore ended up running the family general store / post office, on the countryside. They had many ledger books similar to this one. I also used lots of postage related stamps and stickers.

Ink through Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Circles.

I inked through Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Circles Stencil using Distress Ink.

Stamp the background.

I inked with Mustard Seed Distress Ink through Tim's Sparkle Fade stencil. And stamped stars from his Rockstar set with the same ink.

Add postage stickers.

I used some stickers from Tim Holtz Postmarked sticker book. The arrow and wavy pattern is from Simon Says Stamp Love Letter. 'Photographs' is stamped with Tim Holtz Curiosities and is there since my grandfather liked photography.

Stamp Post card stamps.

I also stamped 'post card' here and there.

Die cut with Tim Holtz Emporium.

Grandfather was die cut with Tim Holtz Alphanumeric Emporium dies from left-over watercolored paper and black kraft stock.

The heart stamps are from Simon Says Stamp Retro Hearts and the sentiment comes from Mixed Labels.

These birds are one of my all-time favorite stamps, from Tim Holtz Mini Ornates.

The Diamond District die is large, which made it possible to use as a photo mat.

Hello friends! I hope you had a good weekend and got some crafty time. It is a new week and that also means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.

Layers of ink - Color Wheel Art Journal Page Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

The challenge made me think of color wheels and I made an art journal page on the theme of journeys through creativity. The page was done in my Stamperia Happiness Mixed Media Journal 4x8.5 in and I used Tim Holtz Color Wheel stencil, Distress Watercolor Pencils and some stamps.

Color with Distress Watercolor Pencils.

Place Tim Holtz Color Wheel stencil on the page and color through the stencil with Distress Watercolor Pencils. I made the color lighter towards the center of the circle.

Use a paint brush and water to dissolve the pencil marks.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Create.

Ink 'Create' from Simon Says Stamp Create stamp set with two shades of blue, mist with water and stamp.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background.

Stamp a compass and sentiments. Then I stamped Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background with blue and grey inks, for texture.

Splatter with Distress Watercolor Pencils.

Make lots of splatters with the watercolor pencils. Dip in water and flick a paint brush against the pencil.

I also added three AALL & Create Mindful Moments words. The sentiment stamp comes from Tim Holtz Odds & Ends.  The compass is from Tim's Tiny Things 2.

I just love colorful splatters.

Splattering with Distress Watercolor Pencils is easy and relatively mess-free.

Sentiments from Tim Holtz Curiosity Shop and Tiny Text and from Simon Says Stamp Create.

If the watercolor stamping didn't turn out as expected, you can use a paint brush to fix it. In this case, the 'r' didn't stamp well.

Misted Ledger Paper

Hello crafters! I hope your weekend has been good. We had fun playing Mikado/pick-up-sticks yesterday for the first time in a long time. And some Uno Flip too - have you played that? It is lots of fun.

Layers of ink - Misted Ledger Paper by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I have finally gotten hold of a Dina Wakley Ledger Journal. The journal is a reproduction of a 1920s hardware store ledger. Not only have I always liked ledger paper, the tall format is also great and the family on my Dad's side ran a combined general store/post office on the countryside. We too have some old ledger books. For this page, I decided to use a photo of my Mom and my grandmother.

Mist with Distress Spritz.

I started by misting through Tim Holtz Bubble stencil with Saltwater Taffy Distress Spritz. After misting, I stamped the stencil on a watercolor paper, to use for another project. Later, I sprayed a little Spiced Marmalade Distress Spritz in a few places.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Pepita Background.

Next, I stamped the page with Simon Says Stamp Pepita Background and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink. This is one of the stamps that I have designed and it was inspired by my grandmother, who liked this pattern. I also stamped some grasses with Paper Artsy Winter Grasses.

Add more stamping.

I stamped sentiments, butterflies and a dragonfly on the background. This sentiment comes from Simon Says Stamp Beautiful and Curious. I splattered the page with a little Winsor & Newton Permanent White Gouache.

Stamp butterflies and a dragonfly.

The dragonfly is from Simon Says Stamp Big Botanicals and the butterfly is from Beautiful and Curious. Here you can see the shimmer from the mist better.

The A with the heart fit well, since both their names start with an A. "Love You" comes from Simon Says Stamp Words of Love.

Stamp with Paper Artsy.

The blue hearts are from Simon Says Stamp Heart Suite and were stamped with Archival Ink Cobalt.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Heart Suite.

The photo was placed on a Tim Holtz Journal Card and a Pocket Card. The edges of the cards and of the entire page were inked with Scorched Timber Distress Ink. I also stamped sentiments on the journal card, such as this word from Simon Says Stamp Heart Suite. There is also a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Mixed Labels, below the photo.
