Heh. Y'all remember FanLib, right?

Think back about a year ago - big kerfuffle, corporate website set up to "bring fanfiction into the big leagues" so that the big entertainment conglomerates could sink their greedy little meat hooks into fan culture and make us their cash cows? With the CEO who flamed and spammed us on our own turf when we didn't line up like good little sheep to bring him profits?

Yeah, them.

Anyway, apparently they can't continue. They're shutting the place down.

Meanwhile, the old-school Mean Bitches that rejected them are still going strong. Ah, fandom. Never change.

More here.

SO.  I take a break to get some sleep and wake up at 1 in the morning to find that WE WON OMG YAY!  Kind of. ^^;;

This definitely needs more iconage.  XD

Now?  Back to FanLib, people!

They aren't completely gone away, yet!  We've still got butts left to kick!

Also?

Fanlib Update:
Now they're asking for users' FF.Net passwords & login info. Presumably to spare the users the hassle of uploading their ff.net fic to FanLib. Thankfully, FF.Net has responded to this by requiring image verification to log in so they can verify the user is human and not some FanLib bot.

Say what you like about the Pit of Voles, but they're still smart enough to avoid FanLib like the effing plague.

Oh a more amusing note, in reference to the Pink Dude/Blue Guy Ads?

They're being slashed. See the New & Improved ads at life_wo_fanlib. XD *DIES*

Spreading the word, 'cause this is important.

HEADLINE #1 - FanLib's Marketing Brochure. Further proof that they & their sponsors intend to turn fandom into their own little band of unpaid Corporate Puppets.

Quotes:Collapse )

HEADLINE #2 - Aca-Fan Henry Jenkins, Author Of "Textual Poaching", Is Interviewing FanLib's CEO, Chris Williams.

Remember Chris - the guy who [flamed & spammed] us on LJ a couple of days ago, and apparently has no idea how to use a spell-checker?

He's asking fans to submit questions to be asked.

TIME TO PLAY HARDBALL, PEOPLE. Submit questions that get OUR point across.

For those who are still unfamiliar with the FanLib controversy, a good run-down of what the heck is going on is available [here].

So. Anyone else on my f-list heard about this FanLib site yet?

It makes me prickly, to say the least. I can't explain it any better than astridv did [here], so I'm just going to link to it and send you all over there.

Also see the [discussion] over at fanthropology about it.
