*hugs vid* I actually gasped out loud at one point at an unexpected connection. GUYS I CAN'T BELIEVE DOCTOR WHO GOT SO MUCH BETTER HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!
I highly recommend "Princess Tutu" and "Revolutionary Girl Utena". These shows are excellent, they are about growing up, about love, and friendship, and the relationships between women, and about the nature of stories, and transcending those boundaries, and <3 <3 <3
And arefadedaway found possibly the perfect song to use for this shows, OMG.
To quote the vidder: They’re about some of the most classic and basic themes in storytelling: fear and courage and pain and hope and friendship, destiny and identity and free will. And they’re told from not only such an explicitly empowering and feministic viewpoint, but in a way that subverts, deconstructs, and challenges not just fairy tales, but the very way stories themselves are told. Because Ahiru, Rue, Utena, and Anthy craft their own stories. They overcome every obstacle in their quest for autonomy and happiness; the domination and control from the individuals around them, their own insecurities, the end of the world, and even, in the case of Tutu, the sadistic narrative tragedy they are acting out. Their lives, their identities, and their stories are their own, and they live them on their own terms, not according to the whims of outside forces. It’s a celebration, it’s a battle cry, it’s hope, and I sob with joy every single time I watch them.
I could get all metatastic and talk for paragraphs, but at its heart this vid is a love letter overflowing with love for these shows, these women, and their stories. It’s meant to be a celebration, and I hope it comes across as one. The sheer wealth of both narratives was intimidating to vid because there’s no way to capture all the complexity in three minutes, but I hope it speaks for itself.
eunice has made a really beautiful vid about having a beloved pet, and losing them, in honor of her dog Cody. I somehow thought I wouldn't cry? If this doesn't make you cry, I don't need to hear about it. I really want to watch it again, but, well, at work.
The source is "Marley and Me".
I'm so glad festivids gave eunice her vidding mojo back. :-)
(Also, I appear to be terrible at this friends only thing, but I want to spread this vid as much as possible)
I love this vid... like I love candy. :-) It is sweet and warm and full of longing and love and history and newness and it's lovely. I love this movie and I love this vid.
Title: Apple Candy Song Artist: Ben Lee Fandom: Star Trek XI aka Reboot Relationship: Kirk/Uhura/Spock and permutations thereof Summary: James T. Kirk believes in having it all.
A feature which I've been meaning to start up ever since vividcon, but honestly, I was kind of vidded-out for awhile after that, then moving, et cetera. (And I can't find my vividcon DVDs OR my program, which has many things I want to rec.)
Anyway, here is a fanvid, to a fandom that might be the most accessible possible fandom to my friends list: THE OBAMAS! I first saw this at Club Vivid at vividcon. I was drunk, I'd been dancing for hours, and I was SO PUMPED. I screamed, I danced, I laughed, I shouted "YES WE CAN!" and "OTP!!!*" The energy in the room was just... overwhelmingly awesome. So much happiness and enthusiasm and dancing and just wow. Sadly the creator, sdwolfpup, couldn't be there because she was rather a lot pregnant at the time, but we were thinking of her!
Title: Say Hey (I Love You) Song: Michael Franti & Spearhead, "Say Hey (I Love You)" Fandom: The Obamas Spoilers: I'm not sure if you know this, but he won the election. Summary: A song about a boy and a girl.
I know the Obamas do not have a perfect relationship, I've read stories, but who does? I see love when I see them together. Can you think back 4 years and imagine that someday we'd be making romantic fanvids about the first family? I never thought this day would come! (Now I was a president or a first spouse who vids. :-)
I find I don't mind delays in putting out the kickstarted content as long as they communicate. I backed the Earthdawn 4E book and it's been in limbo for several months. We got our first update in a…
That sounds interesting. I recently bought the first book released by Big Bang Press, which was crowdfunded (I didn't participate, but that's how I first heard of the project), so I might find other…
