Dear Festividder
I'm never timely about these things! Check back sunday night?
Requests:
I feel like I should just jump to the love plot question right off, by saying I'm team Rafael (as of 1x16), but all that means is that I'd prefer not to get an actual Jane/Michael shipping vid. And sadly, I can't believe any of them pulling off poly, sigh. But otherwise, I have no bans on any characters. I'm generally happy with most things except that one listed above. I'll just go through some characters, eh?
Jane: I love Jane to itty bitty little pieces (wait that phrase is so weird, huh). I love how she has wacky adventures and misunderstanding but they mostly come from such a good place. I want no one to ever lie to her or hurt her in anyway. I don't wish ill on anymore, but I want nothing but perfect happiness for all of the Villanueva women. I love how real and complex all of her feelings and struggles are, I love how she's so different from most TV characters, I love how despite living very different lives and having many different values, I adore the hell out of her. I love her passion for writing, and for teaching, and for the idea of romance without being an idiot about it. :)
Xiomara: I just want to hug her and tell her she's a good mom. I love all of her flaws, and how aware she is of them, and her relationship with...herself, really, and all her actions and history and family and lovers (and not many friends, huh). The way she falls into being a child fighting with her mother and her desperate desire to be perfect for Jane and how she wants to support Jane but also fears her making bad decisions, how she can still pursue her dreams after so many years of not making it, I just love her.
Alba: See, somehow, despite coming from a Catholic family and being a bitter ex-Catholic athiest and hating Catholic sex shaming more than most things in the world, I still love Alba. Which is just a testament to so much about this show and the characters. She just wants the best for her family, and misses her husband, and is still a little scared of America, and is scared of being deported (does she have a doctor who ignores her immigration status, or has she just not had medical care in decades, god I don't even know how this works, it's not like I'm not angry about immigration policies at least weekly but thisjust breaks my heart all over again.)
Michael: okay, while i understand hating Rafael for being with the woman he loves, I can't abide by his actions there. One of my biggest issues with various fiction is that cops breaking the law or abusing their authority or skipping search warrants or mistreating suspects if a huge huge problem for me. I made it through literally one episode of Hawaii Five-O, for instance. There was shark cage involved. Knowing as an audience that someone is guilty changes nothing, and makes me angry on a meta level because I'm sure it influences people to being more okay with police misconduct when they totally look guilty (or were convicted or confessed or anything.) And don't even get me started on torture, the point is I have issues there so if we could avoid any scenes of even mild police misconduct that would be awesome. :) Otherwise, I get why he was lying to Jane about Petra, but I'd probably dump someone over that, when it was about something as huge as the future happiness of my child, so I can't fault Jane and don't like what he did. But! He's often sweet and caring and he loves Jane and i don't wish ill on him (I keep saying these things as if I have any say, I think it's the soapy nature of the show, drawing me in.)
Rafael: Also far from perfect, but he is, as a friend of a friend said, "disney prince handsome". Like just look at him. And he's trying so hard to make up for who he was, and, like, okay so much with Luisa. (where i am she recently ran off with Rose.) He loved her and trusted her enough to risk everything he had financially (which he was working so hard on to get his father's approval and prove himself) to give her what she needed to get her life on track. In that little bit in the first episode before everything goes down, you can see such closeness between them, and it really breaks his heart the way she fucks up. And then he's too quick to send her away after she comes back, but honestly it looked really terrible. If this were fic I'd want sibling stuff maybe, didn't realize this till i wrote this paragraph, ha. tl;dr: i am well aware of rafael's flaws but like him anyway, because this show writes good characters.
Luisa: Oh, how they handled mental health and the institution was not my favorite, you can include parts if you do a Luisa vid because it's important but I'd prefer those scenes not be handled as comedy, despite what the show did?
Rose: I dunno, she's a pretty terrible person, but somehow I want her and Luisa to be happy, while what i should be wanting is luisa to have an actually reasonable relationship. I blame Bridget Regan and her acting. Also her face. (Blew my mind when i realized she was Dottie and Kahlan.)
Petra: Damn, I did not expect to come around on her so much. I still don't like how she treats people sometimes, but I have a lot of sympathy for her and long term I'd like her to be stable in her own right and have a good balanced relationship and be able to chill out some. (I know this keeps sounding like a yuletide request, sorry! I don't expect you to construct anything here, I just wanted to talk about how I feel about them.)
Petra's Mom: I have no idea what her deal is. I'm expecting to see her back before the end of the season. ;-)
I'm generally happy with anything, but some ideas:

Gattaca (1997) [Movie]
This movie gives me chills. I am huge SF fan, and especially about the societal effects of new technology and science and stuff like that. I found it visually striking as well. I am pretty happy with anything - if this is what you matched on, you might want to check back later, I hope to rewatch it? Which is horribly vague and you don't have to. :) But it's been a few years. One time I saw it at a SF marathon and someone broken down so much at the ending that they had to be helped out of the theater, and I don't blame them. I hate the injustice of the society, of course.Jane The Virgin [TV]
[I am not caught up but I will be! As I write this I'm on 1x16, I think.]I feel like I should just jump to the love plot question right off, by saying I'm team Rafael (as of 1x16), but all that means is that I'd prefer not to get an actual Jane/Michael shipping vid. The Martian [Movie]
I laughed, I cried, I reread the book, it was better than cats. In addition to being a huge SF fan about societal changes as mentioned above, I am passionate about space and extra-planetary exploration. The book was described as "engineering porn" and yes, absolutely. I have a bachelor of science in media studies, because my alma mater only gives out SBs, so i m not a scientist or engineer, but i have a basic background, and am surrounded by such people and am a huge fan.I'm generally happy with anything, but some ideas:
- the majesty of space travel
- the triumph of the human spirit
- being a clever bastard
- just Mars herself
- the NASA side of things!
- the ares 3 crew
- weird constructed reality with other damon roles? interstellar is the obvious one, but nothing pops there, and i found that character fairly heartbreaking actually. but especially given that jessica chastain was in that. If it inspires you, go for it!
- something sciency!
- overlaying quotes from the book or audio from the audiobook (which i really liked)

tl;dr: anything :)ReBoot [TV]
tl;dr: anything :)Young Avengers [Still Image]
i've only (so far) read the more recently one (2014? 2013?) comic, with Loki, but I'll go read earlier stuff before golive. I'm a big Loki fan, which is why I wound up there, but I really liked every one else. team feels, gay stuff, loki's sad story and character arc, whatever you like. bringing in other comics is 110% okay. if you do, can you please list the issues/series used so i can read them? thank you ever so much.:) You can read some more about my Loki feels here: http://laura47.livejournal.com/1282266.html
