However, Nigerian English has been characterized as a compendium of errors, however, Nigerian English being a non-native English has been domesticated to characterize certain cultural and social factors of Nigeria. This paper therefore explores and examines certain lexical and semantic features that NE exhibits and also reviews other scholars' views and opinions. It thus concluded that the lexico-semantic features of NE may comprise certain errors but it also reflects nativisation and domestication of the variety of English in Nigeria.

Studies on Politeness and impoliteness are common especially from the sociolinguistics and legal studies __ institutional settings (e.g. politeness in courtroom discourse) but the emergence of technology-based devices and micro blogging platforms has contracted the boundary of interpersonal interactions and affected interlocutors' engagement in polite interaction across cultures, which is mostly evident in the use of microblogs. These rapid changes did not leave out any group of professionalism, even lawyers, as they engage in their everyday conversation. Nevertheless, there are only few studies on Gender Variations and (Im)politeness in legal contexts. Therefore, this paper predominantly focused on Politeness (and impoliteness) and Gender differences in Lawyers' online informal use of language. Random data were drawn from Lawyer-based messaging, comment threads and comment sections of Telegram, Twitter and Facebook communities respectively. Findings revealed that male lawyers' use of politeness markers and positive politeness strategies was roughly equal to that of the female lawyers. Contrarily, several researches had suggested that women are more likely to use politeness strategies than men in their speech. It also revealed that many female lawyers use more of impolite strategies unlike the men. Thus, this paper adds to the developing research area of lawyers' use of language in microblog platforms.

These agenda are restated for emphasis and documentation of the candidate’s official inauguration or swearing - in .Though speeches of presidents and head of states are mostly subjected to linguistic and non-linguistic analysis, other forms of political campaigns such as that of prominent organizations or associations’ heads or presidents have attracted little documentation of illustrative linguistic or non-linguistic analysis. This paper, therefore, focused on the acceptance speech delivered by the 29th Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)’s president, Paul Usoro, SAN FCIArb, on the 4th of September, 2018. It aimed at examining the use of words conveyed by the NBA president for the purpose of identifying the goals of the pragmatic acts involved in the delivered speech. Jacob Mey’s (2001) Pragmatic acts theory was employed for a descriptive analysis, and statistical details for quantitative analysis.
Hence, this paper attempts to add to the understanding of rhetoric and the political agenda in law organizations or associations.
Keywords: acceptance speech, language of politics, Paul Usoro, NBA, law, pragmatic acts.

The initiation into this community automatically changes their spoken and written language to a pure lingo language. This language has been subjected to abbreviation compounding, conversion, blending, word coinages, transformation affixation and compression to convey their worldview, succinctly put. In addition to this, it is mostly carried out on social platforms, where large parts of their daily activities are carried out and spent. Netizen is referred to a citizen of the internet, somebody who spends quality time on the internet. Interesting, this word has undergone the process of lending, blending of internet and citizen other similar words are 'netters', netheads' and 'netties'. Members of this group involved are the teenagers, between the ages of 13 and 19 years and as many as fall into the age bracket of the 'young people'. This young people community or network operate under a highly coded language as a means of communication and identification.

The theoretical aspect of this research examined Austin's approach to speech act, Searle's approach to speech act, and his postulation of the indirect speech act, and Bash and Harnish's intention and inference approach to the speech act theory. This research paper also examined their notable features, expatiating pragmatics not only from the meaning perspective but also from the principles of language in use. It also brought a balance between sentence-meaning and speaker meaning from the angle of syntax and semantics while it analysed the relationship between indirect speech act and politeness as a daily transactional tool.

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the influence of mother tongue interference in Ogun State Deputy Governor’s 2017 spontaneous speech. Results clearly indicate that some of her articulated words are subject of certain phonological processes and rules were generated to account for those processes.

The notion of standard or non-standard of a language variety is not a new challenge for linguists... more The notion of standard or non-standard of a language variety is not a new challenge for linguists across the globe. However, linguists have posited several criteria in identifying a standard and probably categorizing the language variety's sub-standards. The Nigerian English is no different as scholars across nations have questioned the notion of standard in the Nigeria context. Amongst several scholars, Victor Awonusi has reviewed several scholars' view and attempted to identify a standard for the Nigerian English in his paper: the identification of Standards within institutionalized non-native Englishes: the Nigerian English Experience. He also observed the differences, analyzed their views while contextualizing the notion of standards in Nigeria. He finally agreed that the notion of standard in the Nigeria context is socially, geographically and educationally motivated. Awonusi did not stop at this, he continued by presenting a pyramidal notion of the Nigerian Englishes in which speakers can move in a unidirectional method while displaying their competence and at the same time achieving intended performance skills in this continuum. It is then concluded that the notion of standard in a non-native context cannot be placed side by side with the British Standard English, most especially the British Received Pronunciation.
