Okay, once upon a time there was a character in Harry Potter fandom named Blaise Zabini. And in the beginning no one knew much about hir, so sometimes s/he appeared in fic as a white girl or a white boy (you see where I'm going with this already, don't you). And then Rowling made it clear that Blaise was a black boy, and all hell broke loose in certain sections of the fandom, because some people are assholes. That was a while ago, and I had thought it was sorted and sifted, but no, because this is a real thing in the world.

That's a fic archive dedicated to Hermione, Draco and Blaise. And see there, at the top? There's a lovely banner picturing the cast members playing Hermione, Draco and...oh, look, it's some random white dude. Because evidently this cast member isn't acceptable to appear on their banner for some reason. I wonder what that could be?

This is as big and juicy a fannish road-apple as I've ever laid eyes on, and I can smell it through the internet. So dear Archive People: grow the f*ck up and clean up your sh*t. You're making the rest of us look as ignorant as you are.

But it’s the multi-ethnic Americans who are fans of Akira and manga. The idea of buying the rights to do that and in fact change it seems rather pointless. If they’re going to do that, why don’t they do something original, because what they do is offend Asians, number 1; number 2, they offend the fans. The same thing happened with M. Night Shyamalan. He cast his project [The Last Airbender] with non-Asians and it’s an Asian story, and the film flopped. I should think that they would learn from that, but I guess big studios go by rote, and the tradition in Hollywood has always been to buy a project, change it completely and flop with it. I think it’s pointless, so I thought I would save Warner Bros. a bit of failure by warning them of what will most likely happen if they continue in that vein.

Maybe Warner Bros. is deliberately producing a flop, à la The Producers. If so, George, your wisdom is for naught, and we are doomed to sparkly manga.

George is also working for equal rights for gay couples in the Social Security system. THIS IS A BUSY AND AWESOME MAN, AND I NEED A GEORGE TAKEI ICON. :)
