Well, they've filed a bill stating that the US Constitution doesn't apply to them, and asserting their right to establish a state religion. Which is f*cking close enough to secession to make me think my great-great-grandfather Elwood Trimmer would be fetching his musket and heading south again about now. Because he survived both Antietam and Andersonville, and damned if he would stand for this nonsense after all that Southern hospitality.

The bill says the First Amendment only applies to the federal government and does not stop state governments, local governments and school districts from adopting measures that defy the Constitution.

So if North Carolina decides it doesn't want Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, non-Baptist Native Americans or whoever exercising their First Amendment rights to freedom of religion by worshiping in their un-Christian and heathen manner, they can just declare those religions illegal by establishing evangelical Christianity as the only acceptable religion, to be forced on the citizens of North Carolina by the power of the state.

Ain't they special? I wonder if the 13th Amendment will be rendered null and void, too.
