Which is CBS' take on an updated Sherlock Holmes series. Lucy Liu has been cast as Watson, which has sent many BBC Sherlock fans into various states of oh-no-they-didn't, which I've done my best to ignore, because my blood pressure can only take so much in the way of racist and misogynist shenanigans. Then tonight I stumbled across this. Jeebus.

Not only is it just plain wrong, but having Watson be female fucks up the dynamic of their relationship. It’s built on brotherhood, and stacks of homoerotic subtext. Not to mention it is said that Holmes was based on Oscar Wilde who, let’s face it, was a raging homosexual.

I really don't know how to unpack that much ignorance, misogyny and blithely oblivious homophobia. This is the sort of slash fan who makes me cringe, and question my involvement in slash fandom. I'll leave the rank ignorance of ACD canon alone because, as the kids say, I can't even OMG.
