Lee Horsley
I have written two books on literature and politics - Political Fiction and the Historical Imagination (1990) and Fictions of Power in English Literature 1900-1950 (1995). More recently, I have written or edited numerous articles and books on crime fiction. The Noir Thriller (2001, reissued in paperback in 2009) ranges from pulp thrillers of the 1920s to neo-noir films and cyberpunk. Twentieth-Century Crime Fiction (published by OUP in 2005, supported by an AHRB Research Leave Award in the academic year 2003-04) is a study of the main sub-genres of crime fiction from the days of Sherlock Holmes to the present. I co-edited (with Charles Rzepka) the Blackwell Companion to Crime Fiction (2010). In collaboration with my daughter, Kate Horsley, I have edited Crimeculture (www.crimeculture.com) since 2001.
I taught at Lancaster University for nearly forty years (1974 - 2011), specialising in recent years in teaching crime fiction/film courses and co-supervising numerous Creative Writing PhD students. For over a decade, I worked extensively on web development and on Lancaster's very successful distance learning programmes in Creative Writing. I am now retired and living in Manchester. I still review crime fiction on the Crimeculture site and continue to design academic websites.
