Project management is regarded to be a well-established discipline which defines in considerable details the techniques and tools which are necessary when defining, planning, and implementing any project (Forbes & Ahmed, 2010). Nonetheless, while most scholars have been in a position of addressing the issues which surround the management of the projects that are found in big companies, there has been little information that has been gathered with respect to how projects in SMEs need to be managed.
Project management is a well-accepted and developed aspect of professional expertise which aims at ensuring that improvement in systems is achieved. This therefore implies that one of the innovative steps that can ensure that SMEs in the UK and other parts of the world are able to develop is through the introduction of project management process and monitoring it so as to ensure that it delivers the desired outcomes. The potential threat that SMEs face makes one to conclude that they must be in a position of increasing their quality and subsequent competitiveness so that they can match the trends that exist in the industry (Kurpjuhn, 2015). Project management has been designed in such a manner that it gives a systematic approach towards all the steps within a project by making sure that each step is planned carefully, monitored and also accounted for in the end.
