I’m an academic specializing in medieval and early modern European history and literature, also interested in popular culture, popular medievalism, and fan studies. I have taught literature, history, gender studies, and composition at Georgetown University, George Washington University, the University of Maryland at College Park, Southern New Hampshire University, and Simmons University. My most recent appointment was in the Literature Department at MIT during the 2019-2020 academic year. I now work primarily as a freelance editor, based in the northeastern United States.

My first book, The Last Plantagenet Consorts: Gender, Genre, and Historiography, 1440-1627 was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2012. My work has also appeared in ViatorArthuriana, ShakespeareCritical SurveyMedieval & Renaissance Drama in EnglandThe Journal of Fandom Studies, Transformative Works & Cultures, and Quarterly Review of Film and Video. I have edited one collection, Fan Phenomenon: Game of Thrones (Intellect, 2017), on my own, and co-edited three others: Place and Space in Children’s Literature (Ashgate, 2015), The Palgrave Handbook of Shakespeare’s Queens (2018), and Becoming: Genre, Queerness, and Transformation in NBC’s Hannibal (Syracuse UP, 2019). I was awarded my D.Phil. in English Literature from the University of Oxford in 2010. Prior to that, I earned my M.Phil. in European Literature from the University of Cambridge in 2005, and my B.A., magna cum laude, in English (with distinction), French, and Medieval & Renaissance Studies from The Ohio State University in 2004.
