In recent years, weather-related phenomena keep raising concerns about an escalation of internal and/or cross-border human mobility. As the Convention on the Status of Refugees (1951) has been proved ineffective in the classification and protection of the affected populations, new initiatives have emerged within the international community. Moreover, a lot of speculation surrounds the documentation of the environmentally displaced while the complexity of consequences necessitates a transdisciplinary action-plan on the topic. In order to provide answers, this paper investigates data sources, limitations and demonstrates empirical evidence based on the IDMC database and multiple reports. With regard to the complexity of the topic it takes into account the transdisciplinary action-plan of UNESCO for the environmental migration. Finally, it discusses two –of the many- diverse case studies: The historical Israel-Palestine water conflict along with the Tuvalu and Kiribati slow-onset submerge in the Pacific Ocean.

In spite of the lack of consensus in the DH definition, the technological tools and techniques touched upon the course ‘Introduction to Digital Humanities’ constitute a resourceful way to gain a general understanding of the field. Especially, in terms of experimentation both in practice and theory of EU Politics. Beyond doubt, Open Access (OA) and Data Visualisation have been inspiring to that end. Nonetheless, the far-reaching experimentation of the past years has converted argumentative scholarship to a crucial component for the evolution of the DH field. Corpus Linguistics and Quantitative Content Analysis, give rise to innovative and critical methodological approaches within the EU Politics discipline. Case in point, encoding a database from the EU Parliament Plenary sessions, to answer traditional scholarship questions. Finally, DH scholarly with strong exposure to computational expertise will be able to prioritise meaning-making of privacy over intensifying technological debates on topics such as personal data protection.

Significantly, it focuses on the types and illicit activities of organised crime groups and their connection with public administration. Ominously, Wester Balkans, a region which had been out of the spotlight of conflicts, after the Yugoslav and Kosovo wars, and considered to be on a path towards reconciliation and prosperity is once again at stake. This can be attributed in part to the deficiency of the region – and its allies – to counter organised crime and corruption. In that respect, new challenges of security emerge that necessitate a collective response from the international community.

It has been argued that, for centuries, ‘open-minded’ Europe has projected its apprehensions and forbidden desires onto the peripheral ‘Other’ of the Balkans. That organised promotion of a usually pejorative, and distorted image in western Europe, termed as ‘balkanism’, impacted on the perceptions of the Balkan identity. Some of the most interesting case studies pertain to the 19th century literature. Significantly, Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ and Karl May’s ‘Durch das land der Skipetaren’ emerge as collective indicators of western representations in the 19th century, through the reproduction and even construction of Balkan stereotypes.
