The article describes Gustav III’s attempts to save the French monarchy, the then political situa... more The article describes Gustav III’s attempts to save the French monarchy, the then political situation in Europe, and the attitude of individual European powers to the French Revolution. The authors try to show a close relation between the policy of the Stockholm court towards revolutionary France and the actions of the king of Sweden in Central and Eastern Europe. The study uses hitherto neglected sources such as correspondence of Swedish diplomats from St Petersburg, Madrid and Warsaw, or records found in the Riksarkivet in Stockholm. Thus, the presented article should fill the existing research gap in the abovementioned area of interest.

The main objective of the proposed paper is to describe terminal operating system (TOS) that can ... more The main objective of the proposed paper is to describe terminal operating system (TOS) that can be used by sea ports to optimize processes of maritime container loading/unloading and transportation. The chosen TOS modules will be presented, analyzed and compared on the basis of such problems as: loading and unloading of vessels, vehicle routing systems, planning the number of container handling equipment (CHE) or organizing storage yards and warehouses at marine container terminals. The study is also intended to demonstrate that TOS may be used to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of marine container terminals as it is a great tool supporting ports’ entrepreneurship and competitiveness.

Option pricing is one of the most important issues while dealing with this sort of terminal asset... more Option pricing is one of the most important issues while dealing with this sort of terminal assets. At present, the probabilistic Black–Scholes model and the binominal Cox–Ross–Rubinstein model are the most popular and widely used to this end. Therefore, the paper discusses the impact of the uncertain factors on the Black–Scholes model parameters d1 and d2. The author poses a question of how the introduction of the disturbances to the Black–Scholes sigma parameter affects the parameters d1 and d2. To find it out, the stochastic simulation is used. Also such measures as mean, standard deviation, skewness, kurtosis and Jarque–Ber test are employed here. According to the results of the experiment described above, the intensity of the disturbances introduced to the model plays the key role. In the final part of the article, these results are briefly compared to the ones obtained in another, similar research in which the Cox–Ross–Rubinstein model parameters were disturbed. The comparison shows that the results obtained from both experiments are very similar. However, it should be underlined that they are slightly better for the probabilistic model of Black–Scholes.

The rapid growth in the volume of international container transport enforces the improvement of c... more The rapid growth in the volume of international container transport enforces the improvement of competitiveness in the entire transport chain, including maritime container terminals. Reports and scientific surveys on the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) tend to concentrate on annual results achieved by entire ports, largely ignoring the efficiency of individual terminals. The aim of the article is to fill this research gap and consequently examine the competitiveness of the most important maritime container terminals in Poland and their Russian competitors. To this end, selected Polish and Russian bases were examined with regard to a number of criteria, such as the length of the quay (c1), the number of RTG (c2) and STS (c3) cranes, the number of shortsea shipping connections (c4), the maximum depth at the quay (c5), the distance from motorways and expressways/national roads (c6) or the distance from the national railway station (c7). The above seven criteria were subsequently used to perform a strategic group mapping as well as AHP and PROMETHEE II multi-criteria rankings that enabled to specify those Baltic Sea container nodes which are in the area of strategic benefits for the analysed market sector. According to the results obtained, the Russian Petrolesport and the Polish DCT Gdańsk are the leaders of the market. This fact confirms their competitive advantage over other market players of the sector in question.

Polska z racji swojego położenia w centrum Europy jest kluczowym elementem Nowego Jedwabnego Szla... more Polska z racji swojego położenia w centrum Europy jest kluczowym elementem Nowego Jedwabnego Szlaku (NJS), inicjatywy która stanowi próbę stworzenia najkrótszego połączenia lądowego pomiędzy Chinami a Europą Zachodnią. W prezentowanym artykule przeanalizowano różnego rodzaju raporty branżowe, krajowe strategie rozwoju do 2030 r. oraz unijne i lokalne projekty, aby sprawdzić, czy dalszy rozwój NJS stanowi szansę dla kolejowych przewozów kontenerowych w Polsce. Jak się okazuje omawiane w artykule zagadnienie pozostawało dotychczas poza kręgiem zainteresowań badaczy tematu, a przeprowadzona analiza stanowi ważne uzupełnienie istniejącej luki badawczej. Jednocześnie wydaje się, że dalsze uczestnictwo Polski w chińskiej inicjatywie Jednego Pasa, Jednej Drogi stanowi ogromną szansę dla dalszego, bardziej dynamicznego rozwoju kolejowych przewozów kontenerowych w Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej (RP).

In order to conduct the research, thirty terminals, whose annual maximum throughput capacity does not exceed 150,000 TEU, have been examined taking into consideration a number of criteria which are: length of the quay (C1), number of RTG (C2) and STS (C3) cranes, number of shortsea shipping connections (C4), maximum (technical) depth at the quay (C5), distance from motorways and expressways/national roads (C6), distance from the national railway station (C7). Selected k=7 criteria were used to perform PROMETHEE II (Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations II) multi-criteria ranking that enabled specifying those Baltic Sea container nodes which are in the area of strategic benefits for the analysed market sector.

Podejmując analizę rynku filmowego, należy przyjąć, że proces tworzenia dzieła filmowego nie końc... more Podejmując analizę rynku filmowego, należy przyjąć, że proces tworzenia dzieła filmowego nie kończy się na wykonaniu kopii wzorcowej, która de facto finalizuje pracę na planie i w postprodukcji. Następująca po produkcji faza dystrybucji jest nie mniej ważna dla końcowego efektu dzieła, a także dla rozwoju całej branży filmowej. Dystrybucja jest etapem pośrednim, który łączy tzw. produkcję właściwą z odbiorcą dzieła, czyli widzem. Z pewnością jest też procesem kreatywnym, od którego w dużej mierze zależy, czy film odniesie sukces frekwencyjny i finansowy.

Deepwater Container Terminal Gdańsk (DCT Gdańsk) leży w południowej części Bałtyku w Zatoce Gdańs... more Deepwater Container Terminal Gdańsk (DCT Gdańsk) leży w południowej części Bałtyku w Zatoce Gdańskiej i jest ważnym elementem transeuropejskiego korytarza transportowego Bałtyk–Adriatyk. Jest on jedynym terminalem głębokowodnym (głębokość do 17 m) w rejonie Morza Bałtyckiego, do którego bezpośrednio zawijają statki z Dalekiego Wschodu. Terminal obsługuje polski import, eksport, tranzyt oraz tranzyt morski. Swoją wysoką pozycję konkurencyjną w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej zawdzięcza przede wszystkim dobremu dostępowi od strony morza, brakowi zalodzenia (położenie przy ujściu rzeki) oraz doskonałym możliwościom operacyjnym. W artykule przedstawiono genezę powstania, rozwój oraz działalność operacyjną gdańskiego terminala. W części analitycznej wykorzystano m.in. informacje udostępnione przez spółkę DCT Gdańsk, dane Eurostat oraz raporty branżowe Lloyds List, Port Monitor czy też Container Management. Wyniki przeprowadzonej analizy pozwoliły na wyciągnięcie wniosku, iż w niedługiej przyszłości Port Gdańsk (w tym DCT) wzmocni swoją pozycję konkurencyjną tak na europejskim, jak iświatowym rynku morskich przewozów kontenerowych.

Aim/purpose-The purpose of the paper is to describe and analyse the functioning of the cinema dis... more Aim/purpose-The purpose of the paper is to describe and analyse the functioning of the cinema distribution market in Poland in 2002-2018. Design/methodology/approach-The results of the quantitative research of the fifteen major film distributors operating in Poland in the analysed period are presented in the paper, together with market capacity, market share ratios and measures of market concentration.
Findings-Thanks to the analysis, large distributors operating in the Polish film market are characterised. The analysis of the structure and the concentration of the sector in question shows that nowadays over half of the cinema distribution in Poland is concentrated in the hands of four companies (UIP, Kino Świat, Monolith and Disney), two of which (UIP, Disney) are foreign branches of the major American studios. Thus, the results of the research provide empirical evidence on the impact of international distribution consortia on the Polish cinematographic industry. They are similar to the existing literature findings which concern other countries (e.g. Canada, New Zealand, Western Europe). This means that Poland is part of the trend of dominance of American distributors on global domestic markets.

Chińczycy po raz pierwszy zaprezentowali koncepcję budowy Nowego Jedwabnego Szlaku (NJS), sieć kolejowych połączeń miała prowadzić przez Polskę leżącą na odcinku najkrótszego lądowego połączenia Chin z Europą Zachodnią. Od samego początku ważnym punktem na planowanej trasie była Łódź - czwarte co do wielkości oraz trzecie pod względem liczby mieszkańców miasto w Polsce. Dzięki dogodnej lokalizacji oraz dużemu potencjałowi kreatywnemu to właśnie Łódź, jako silny ośrodek gospodarczy i akademicki, dostała szansę na wyspecjalizowanie się w szerokim spektrum usług logistycznych. W prezentowanym artykule autorki spróbują ocenić przebieg dotychczasowej współpracy władz miasta z partnerami z Chin oraz zidentyfikować mocne i słabe strony Łodzi w kontekście dalszej współpracy z Państwem Środka, jak również w odniesieniu do planów rozwojowych ośrodka na najbliższą przyszłość.

XX w. był czasem stagnacji, charakteryzującym się wzajemnym brakiem zainteresowania sobą rozpatrywanych państw. Wraz z upływem czasu wyraźne stało się polepszenie stosunków oraz chęć nawiązania współpracy, a prezentowana od 2012 r. chińska strategia światowej ekspansji przyczyniła się do utrzymania poprawnych relacji międzypaństwowych między Państwem Środka a krajami Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej, w tym Polski. Zaprezentowana w 2013 r. idea Nowego Jedwabnego Szlaku (NJS), którego nazwa oraz założenia są bezpośrednim odniesieniem do dawnego szlaku handlowego łączącego Chiny z Europą oraz Bliskim Wschodem, stanowi szansę dla Polski na wzmożenie wymiany handlowej z Chinami. Sieć połączeń, postulowana w ramach NJS, uwzględnia Polskę jako kraj kluczowy podczas tworzenia najkrótszego połączenia lądowego między Chinami a Europą Zachodnią. Dogodna lokalizacja Polski predestynuje ją do bycia aktywnym uczestnikiem inicjatywy oraz swoistym hubem przeładunkowym dla NJS. Prezentowany artykuł stanowi próbę odpowiedzi na pytania dotyczące szans oraz zagrożeń wynikających z uczestnictwa Polski w NJS oraz oszacowania dalszych perspektyw rozwoju tego przedsięwzięcia.

W publikacji podjęto próbę kompleksowego zbadania procesów związanych z transportem i obsługą kontenerów przewożonych drogą morską. Przedstawiono morskie terminale kontenerowe jako problem kombinatoryczny o charakterze kolejkowym, a także omówiono wyniki analizy wielokryterialnej, dokonując oceny potencjału konkurencyjnego baz przeładunkowo-składowych kontenerów w Regionie Morza Bałtyckiego.
W książce obszarem badań jest rynek terminowy Eurex oraz notowane na nim akcyjne kontrakty futures i opcje. Rozpatrywane są tu trzy najpowszechniej wykorzystywane w praktyce modele wyceniające tego typu instrumenty pochodne. W pracy przedstawiono także istotę transakcji terminowych oraz scharakteryzowano rynki derywatów finansowych. Do opracowania dołączono słownik polsko-angielski i angielsko-polski terminów związanych z instrumentami pochodnymi.
