I'm currently knitting a dinosaur bib (http://downcloverlaine.blogspot.com/2008/04/dinosaur-bib.html) and have gotten to the point where it says the first and last stitches are seed stitch and they will be referred to as B5 (k1, p1, k1, p1, k1) so I placed markers at the first five and the last five. The first rows of the pattern every rows has been switched between beginning with a knit stitch or a purl stitch so should I be doing the same thing for B5 the first row do the (k1, p1, k1, p1, k1) and then the next row do (p1, k1, p1, k1, p1) I hope this question makes sense if not let me know and I'll try to explain further. Thanks for any help.
Also if that is the case that I switch between knits and purls for the beginning of the rows, row 20 starts with a knit so would I begin B5 with a purl the first time?

Hi knitters!

I am currently working on my first sweater ever, which is going pretty well overall, despite it taking me absolutely forever! (Long periods of time where I'd put it aside and forget to pick it back up.) It's the tempting pattern from knitty, and I'm just about at the end now. For joining the undersides of the sleeves to the body, the directions say Remove underarm sts of one sleeve from waste yarn and place on a dpn. Remove corresponding underarm sts of body from waste yarn and place on second dpn. Join body sts to sleeve sts using three-needle BO and long tail from sleeve. Join second underarm in the same way. I got the switching from waste yarn to DPN thing, but I have never heard of the three-needle BO before. Can anyone tell me what that means or how to do it? Help would be much appreciated!

New here and thought I'd say hi. Started knitting about three weeks ago (taught myself by watching the little videos at knittinghelp.com) and have, so far, made three scarves, a cat blanket, six dish cloths and a pot holder thingie (not really a holder, more to place hot pots onto on the counter) and am working on an actual blanket (my first attempt using circular needles) right now.

I have noticed, sadly, that I am a visual learner and that my brain is apparently incapable of understanding patterns. Though this didn't stop me from buying two knitting pattern books (one to make toys and one just for garter stitch patterns). :P So I haven't knitted anything that I haven't seen a video of. I'd like to learn to knit other things, like mitts and slippers and hats, but I haven't been able to find videos that show step by step, start to finish, how to do any of those things (without being complicated - not quite ready to knit with several needles yet *g*) and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any videos like that? I know youtube has lots of videos but, as I said, I haven't managed to find any that aren't either too complicated or are already halfway through the project in the video.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. :)

I have another question if you have time to respond. I signed up in my local knit shop for a lesson and the teacher told me that I should learn to hold my yarn at the top of my needles with my two fingers (thumb and index)holding the yarn as I knit.(Im right handed) She said this gives my work a more uniform look and I will have more control of my yarn. Im practicing, but I was just wondering if this is what most knitters do, or do you just do what is comfortable and be sure to pull some to make your stitches a bit tighter?
Just curious here what others do?

So, just over a week ago, I posted here to ask about double-layered hats and double-pointed needles. Over the past week, I've been following this double-layer hat pattern from Ravelry (http://webhome.idirect.com/~quanah/patdoublehat.html) and I've got my gauge same as the person's. Just today I finally tied up my final loose end and tried fitting the hat on my head... but it's too small. Not just too small, but "squeeze my head till I feel dizzy" small. o_o

I've stuffed a towel into the hat at the moment and it measures roughly 19 inches around, but my head would optimally like a hat that's 23 inches around. Is there any way I can do blocking and still achieve that result, or would I have to redo the hat entirely? (I'm still too inexperienced to take a part of the stitches out and put more stitches in... if that works for this case.)

I'm not too upset about the hat being too small, as it's a test run for another hat I'm making, but it'd be useful if I could put this hat to some use rather than toss it aside 'cause it's too small. At the moment it seems suitable for the casing of some vase. o_O

I just wanted to make a quick post introducing myself. I just started learning how to knit this past December, so I am very new at all of this -- essentially all I can do is a basic knit!

As far as my accomplishments/project are concerned, I finished knitting a pencil case (just knitting a rectangle and sewing up 1/3 of it to make a pouch) a month ago. Right now I am finishing up a winter hat. I am now in the process of trying to sew my edges together and then I will attempt to make (and attach) a pom-pom.

I am looking forward to reading about other members' projects and and eager to read the advice of the more experienced knitters.

Toe-Up Two-at-a-Time Socks

Has anyone here knitted two socks at once? Am I so behind the times that everyone does but I just didn't know it? Is it fairly simple or so complicated I should stick to one at time? I'd say I'm intermediate as far as knitting goes.

Im a rather new knitter and I have a question about reading a pattern when it says YO (Yarn Over. When it says YO, K3 does that mean you place the YO on each of the 3 knit stiches? Or just the first knitted stich?

Okay, sorry, beginner knitter here! Background: my knitting experience consists of a single 7-foot-long striped scarf, and I don't plan on taking up knitting as a hobby (I'm just knitting things for people, and then putting the needles down till the next time I want to knit something for someone again, say maybe in a year's time).

I'm planning to make a double-layer hat, and I've bought two balls of yarn, and a set of single-ended needles, which is really stupid but I didn't realise it at that time.

I have a handful of questions regarding this project:
1) should I get circular needles or double-pointed needles? Some instructions I looked at on Ravelry said that I should use both double-pointed and circular, but because it's not a long-term investment, at least for now, I don't want to get both types of needles. Do I need many double-pointed needles though?

2) I was thinking of modifying a single-layer pattern (http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/kwetq-hatScarf.html?r=1) by flipping it so it becomes a double-layer hat, but I'm not sure if it's suitable for the pattern/someone of my skill level.

3) Plus, if I were to flip the pattern, I'd have to knit from the ribbing up one side, then turn it around to knit from the other side, right? Instead of knitting from end to end? I've never seen the reverse of p2tog/k2tog, but I guess there isn't any harm asking!
