Axel was out; he was on a mission with Demyx.
Roxas was smart; he knew something was wrong. Axel was too nice. Roxas was pampered. It didn’t feel right anymore.
He talked with Zexion. They weren’t close, per se, but he didn’t know any of the higher ups better, and he knew Zexion would help, simply because Zexion seemed to like the company.
He thumbed through logs, Roxas hadn’t known Xemnas kept such detailed reports, about what everyone did when they left The World That Never Was, where they were going, and for how long.
Midgar, Midgar, Midgar.
That location had begun popping up a lot recently, and Roxas knew that’s where he’d get answers.
So Roxas left, getting the okay from Xemnas, heading for Midgar.
When Roxas arrived he was surprised at how drab and run down it was. He entered a pub and began asking around. He told people he was looking for a guy with red hair and strange markings under his eyes, and eventually got an address.
Roxas hadn’t expected to get an address, let alone from a man with long dark hair wearing a suit, but thanked him none the less.
After a while of walking (and getting pick pocketed on the train that took him to the upper level of the city) he arrived at the address. He knocked, not sure why, since he knew Axel wouldn’t be there. He turned to leave as the door opened.
“Yo.”
Roxas turned, dull red hair falling over the shoulder of the man looking back at him.
“Sorry, I must have the wrong place; I thought you’d be someone else.”
Roxas tried to leave again, but Reno interjected.
“Who’re you looking for? I bet I can help.” He grinned, confident.
“I doubt it.” Roxas said, looking over his shoulder.
“Try me.” Reno egged him on.
“Axel.” Roxas said, taking the bait and not bothering to turn around.
“Yeah, I know him.” Reno said, sounding proud.
Roxas turned around, skeptic.
“He has hair like this-” Reno said, putting his hand on top of his head and making spikes with his fingers, “and eyes so bright green they might as well be made with mako…” Roxas wasn’t sure what mako was, but Reno kept going. “And lines under his eyes.” He finished, holding his finger tips to his face.
Roxas just stood there. That was Axel. No matter what mako was, that was Axel.
“How do you know him?” Roxas asked, things not yet clicking.
“You might want to come in.” Reno said, walking away from the door and leaving it open.
Roxas walked in, shutting the door behind him.
“Can I get you anything to drink?” Reno asked, already out of sight.
“No thanks.” Roxas replied, looking around. Reno’s apartment felt lived in. He was used to bare walls and neatly made beds, not messy couches and open doors.
“Well then, make yourself at home.” Reno said, walking past him and plopping down on the couch.
Roxas walked over, sitting on the other end, back against the arm rest, facing Reno.
“You know…” Reno started, really looking at Roxas for once. “I think he mentioned you.”
Roxas just looked at him, taking everything in.
“Yes, he definitely mentioned you. Not by name though… What is your name, anyway?”
Roxas wasn’t sure what other way he could be mentioned, but introduced himself anyway.
“I’m Roxas.”
“Nice to meet you. The name’s Reno.” Reno said, that grin there again.
Roxas should have felt more awkward. Reno was a stranger, they were alone in his apartment, and he barely knew where he was. But he knew Axel, and the vibes he was getting from Reno made him want to trust him. Roxas pushed that aside though. He sometimes got like that when he was around someone who didn’t constantly say they didn’t have hearts. It was why he liked being around Demyx so much, even if Axel would have rather it be just the two of them.
“So, how do you know him?” He asked looking Reno right in the eyes.
Reno looked away, thinking over his words. “Well, we don’t really know each other, I guess. It’s more that he just keeps coming here and staying the night.”
Roxas was silent.
“He never really talks about himself, but he’s the kind of guy you can know without really knowing. At least, he seems that way. How do you know him?”
Roxas didn’t reply at first. He wanted to feel more hurt than he was. Roxas isn’t stupid. He could put two and two together.
“We’re friends.” He finally said.
“I already know more about you then I do him.” Reno replied, observing him.
It didn’t help Roxas.
What was so much better about Reno that he’d leave to be here, on this messy couch in this little apartment?
Roxas crawled over to Reno, getting a good look at him and moving closer.
“Are you two the type of friends to share?” Reno asked, moving to lean back against the couch, head on the arm rest.
“No.” Roxas said simply, putting one leg on either side of Reno’s hips.
“Fair enough.” Reno said, snaking arms around Roxas’ neck as he leaned closer.
If Kayla hadn't said "WHY DID YOU END IT THERE?" and wanted me to 'get to good part', then this would have been all Midgar ever was. As it is now there is no end in sight. @_@
