To accomplish this, I will deploy an Hegelian form of process philosophy. My focus will be on human consciousnessin the form of the negation of the negationthat is able to act freely precisely because it realistically takes into account the objective determinants that structure its situation. This teleological framework, although deterministic in an Hegelian sense, is not pernicious since it is a nonfatalistic, modest, midrange intelligible teleology that is anchored in social reason. A reformulated base/superstructure model will be employed to elucidate the notions of class and classformation. The determining ground (class consciousness) is the superstructure. The base (the objective conditions) while it is the necessary condition for the superstructure is a feature of human selfdetermination. The superstructure (consciousness) supplies a teleological principle grounded in free social reason.

Evil poses the great challenge as Fackenheim notes. To this Harris has a non-strong reply. My view: Hegel would a different Hegel today; he never was an Hegelian.

We face an economic and political project. Neoliberalism is the source of our current crisis in both the developing and developed worlds; it is a global crisis. Neoliberalism has caused the economic and social polarisation and inequality which constitute the crisis. The writers in this volume wrestle prospectively with the experimental polarising alternatives available. Their reflections express the radical thinking of resistance in Marxist theory and practice, as it is already taking place in current struggles in voice and deed across the world. Consequently, neoliberalism is not a finality economically, socially, and humanly.
