One of the anatomical landmarks that could affect the decision for implant placement around the maxillary sinus is the sinus septa. This study aimed to retrospectively determine the prevalence, anatomical distribution, and morphology of the maxillary sinus septa. Materials and methods This study included 309 CBCT images that were analyzed to determine the prevalence, height, location, and orientation of the maxillary sinus septa. Descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U tests, and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for data analysis. Results A total of 618 maxillary sinuses were analyzed. Maxillary septa were present in 30% (n = 188) of the sinuses and in approximately 45% of the analyzed images. The mean height of the septa was 5.09 mm. The presence of bilateral septa was evident in 49 subjects (35.25%). Female subjects were signi cantly more likely to have only one septum (n = 67, 53.6%, p < 0.05). Conclusion The presence of septa is very common, found in one-third to approximately half of the evaluated cases, which warrants careful examination before any surgical interventions to avoid possible complications.

Methodology: A cross-sectional study using a self-administered questionnaire was completed by 300 practitioners (150 dentists and 150 medical practitioners) working at different academic, governmental, and private sectors in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire assessed practitioner's attitude toward EBP in terms of application and usage; awareness and usage of bibliographic database; history of training in EBP; perception of their understanding of technical terms used in scientific research and opinion with respect to barriers for the use of EBP and Evidence-Based Dentistry in Saudi Arabia. Results: Of those who were invited to participate, 76.7% returned fully completed questionnaires. Physicians and dentists had an overall favorable attitude toward EBP, with 85% showing interest in the current promotion for this process and 97% agreeing that it improves patients' care. However, 55% believe that it poses extra demands on already overloaded clinicians. No significant differences were found between dentists and physicians with respect to all attitude items. Significantly fewer dentists indicated understanding the terms: number needed to treat (P = 0.001), odds ratio

Trial 1 compared the meswak with the toothbrush when used twice and five times a day. Trial 2 compared habitual meswak users with toothbrush users. Under experimental conditions, a significant reduction in gingivitis was found both buccally (p less than 0.01) and lingually (p less than 0.05) after using a meswak five times a day compared with a conventional toothbrush. Twice a day brushing with a meswak produced a significant reduction in gingivitis buccally (p less than 0.005) compared with toothbrushing, but lingually the difference was insignificant. There were no significant differences in plaque scores between a meswak and a conventional toothbrush when brushing was continued five times a day. Plaque scores became significantly higher when a meswak was used only twice a day compared with toothbrushing, specifically on the lingual surfaces of the teeth (p less than 0.01). Habitual meswak users showed a significant reduction in gingival bleedin...

Numerous factors attribute to the gummy smile condition, such as; hyperactivity of the Orbicularis Oris muscle, altered passive eruption and reason connected to the dentogingival complex. 1-3 Additional factors determine the smile-line like the form and volume of the lips, the facial muscles, the teeth, and the gingival tissue. The ideal situation for an esthetic smile is the exposure of minimal gingival tissues with normal teeth height and a good balance with the upper lip. 3 As the facial esthetics can be severely affected by the gummy smile, consideration of the available options of treatment is a must to adjust the condition but only upon the patient request. One of the earliest ways to correct this problem was to undergo Orthognathic surgery to reposition the front segment of the upper jaw when the patient has a basal bone deformity. 1 However, because of the surgical difficulty, the pain, the hospitalization, and the intrinsic complications, patients are not enthusiastic to go through this treatment. 4,5 Accordingly other treatment alternatives were established, which are less painful and less expensive. Lip repositioning procedure is one of these procedures 6 ; it is a possible and inexpensive option of treatment. It is a relatively simple approach where by repositioning of the upper lip to a lower position with some minor periodontal cosmetic surgery minimizes the appearance of a high lip line. 7,8 The procedure is performed under local anesthetic and involves the surgical re-attachment of the gingival tissue under the lip to restrict the extent that the lip can go excessively upward when smiling. The result of this procedure is very satisfying to the patient. 6-9 Gingivectomy is another approach of treatment. However, Gingivectomies can only be performed when reduction of gingival tissues is minimal. The tissue is removed with gingivectomy knives, # 15 blades, dental laser or by radiosurgery. The advantages of this technique include; reduced pain, no sutures, and fast healing. 10-12 Peer review under responsibility of King Saud University.

This study aimed to assess the overall experience and satisfaction of dental students towards e-learning in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted between November 2022 and January 2023. The survey questionnaire comprised items for both qualitative and quantitative analysis of data. Non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test along with Conover post-hoc analysis) were conducted to compare ‘e-learning experience’ and ‘overall satisfaction’, against the descriptive variables. Results: The sample of 250 participants comprised 52.4% females, 71.6% were in the age group 22 to 25 years, 96.4% were Saudi nationals, and 29.6% were 4th-year students. Approximately 72.8% of them described their IT skills as average and 55.2% of them ha...

The study group included 150 subject 20-60 years of age. Of this, 27.5% were cigarette smokers, 20.3% were Shesha smokers, 20.3% were Argela smokers, and 32% were non-smokers (females 24.2%: 74% males). The study was based on clinical examination, periodontal parameters recorded by one examiner (AS) and included measurement of pocket depth (PD 1) followed by measurement of recession from the CEJ to gingival margin (GR 2). Attachment loss (AL) was calculated by adding recession or by subtracting gingival overgrowth to measurements of probing depth. The readings were taken from buccal and lingual surfaces of all teeth except third molars. The influence of age, sex and different types of smoking consumption on these periodontal parameters was statistically evaluated using an analysis of variance (ANOVA). The effect of smoking on periodon...

The study was conducted between 2006 and 2007, in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. RESULTS Six hundred and seventy-seven participants responded to the questionnaire. More than 60% of the participants were aware of both HBV and HCV and approximately 50% were aware that it could affect the liver function and lead to death.
