Kimiyasu Morikawa
I'm a full-stack software developer based in New York. Please call me Kimi!
🧑💻 Experience
From scaling AI-powered apps to leading startup M&A, I bridge the gap between complex engineering and business strategy. My work focuses on the intersection of Generative AI, scalable mobile/web architecture, and digital transformation.
I am currently a Technical Team Lead at the New York Public Library (NYPL), where I lead a dedicated team in integrating Generative AI and LLM technologies into our digital infrastructure. Our mission is to enhance the user experience and expand global access to one of the world's most extensive resource collections.
Previously, I worked for Boston Consulting Group (BCG) as a Senior Engineer. I was a lead enginner of multiple client-facing projects representing BCG Digital Ventures (currently branded as BCG.X), a tech & design focused business incubator within BCG. For example, I led a team of 10 engineers that built an AI-powered journaling app with and , which reached 1M+ users. I worked closely with designers and marketers on business planning and go-to-market strategy.
Prior to these roles, I bring a mixed experience working as a CTO of a Tokyo-based startup, navigating them to a successful M&A, and as a Consultant of a private think tank.

👨🎓 Education & Research
Originally from Japan, I spent my youth in the US and Hong Kong. I graduated from Waseda University in 2014 with Bachelor's degree in Economics with a minor in Software Engineering. I'm currently pursuing Master of Science in Computer Science in Georgia Tech's OMSCS program.
In 2025, I co-authored a paper on Deep Learning for 3D morphological classification (specifically ancient Japanese pottery), accepted for publication in the Journal of Archaeological Science.
In my free time, I enjoy shooting film photography. I develop them by myself, so I am a developer here as well! Being a casual trekker, I have peaked 33 of the "100 Best Hikes in Japan" list (Hyakumeizan). I hold a black belt in Judo.
