This article focuses on Japan's relationship with the group of emerging and developing countries called the "Global South." Although some analysts question the utility of the term, use of it has become mainstream. At the G20 Summit in Delhi held in September 2023, the Global South continued to receive attention. Here and in subsequent meetings, Prime Minister Kishida introduced Japan's new plan for a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" together with political and diplomatic considerations that have been advancing Japan's policy toward the Global South.

Such a search was accompanied by fundamental changes in Japanese domestic and foreign policies and became even more imminent after Japan lost the status as the world's second biggest economy to China a few years ago. As regards domestic politics, the decade-old rule of Japan's Liberal-Democratic Party (LDP) came to end, albeit temporarily as it turned out. Currently, Japan is experiencing the structural transformation of both its domestic and foreign policies.
Background/Purpose: Physical education (PE) is considered the primary tool to increase physical f... more Background/Purpose: Physical education (PE) is considered the primary tool to increase physical fitness (PF) of students. In fact, students are not very physically active during traditional school PE classes. Considering the low physical activity level will lead to a poor motor performance in Chinese college students, more physical activity interventions are needed to increase motor fitness of students. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to assess the preliminary effects of an 8-week school-based Bamboo Dance intervention on motor performance among college students in China. Method: Thirty (male = 18, female = 12) college students (BMI = 22.45±2.61; age = 20.8±2.07) were recruited from the northwest region of China and randomly assigned into experiment and control group. Subjects in the training group were required to participate in Bamboo Dance exercise in regular physical education class. The intervention underwent 8 weeks of training session (90 min per week). Agility, balance, speed, and power were measured before and after the training session for each group. The results of the study indicated that participants in the intervention program showed significantly promotions in balance (102% vs. 3.6%), agility (6.1% vs. .18%), strength (9.6% vs. .33%), and explosive power (8.4% vs. .42%) than students in control group. Conclusions: performing Bamboo Dance provides the health benefits to college students in terms of developing lower extremity-related motor abilities. The study demonstrated that a school-based Bamboo Dance programme is able to initiate changes in college students and could be implemented to other colleges throughout China.
The renewed interest in trait-based approaches has offered a stimulating, conceptual framework fo... more The renewed interest in trait-based approaches has offered a stimulating, conceptual framework for predicting species distributions, assessing community composition and determining biodiversity-ecosystem linkages. However, despite previous attempts to clarify trait terminology and its application, selecting ecologically meaningful traits that mechanistically link levels of biological organization remains a challenge in aquatic ecology. Response traits can be used to capture community assembly processes along environmental gradients, while effect traits hold the potential to predict ecosystem functions. Although effect traits related to organismal physiology and body composition best allow for extrapolation from individuals to ecosystem processes, such traits are still rarely incorporated within plankton functional approaches or classifications for numerous reasons. Synthesizing current knowledge on effect traits in zooplankton, we call for a better implementation of such metrics as descriptors of community structure. We then capitalize on concepts of bioenergetics and ecosystem ecology to propose a hierarchical framework for zooplankton trait classification, identifying key traits fulfilling organismal functions and linking these to ecosystem processes likely to be influenced. Our framework provides insight regarding trait trade-offs, with implications for feedbacks to ecosystems, aiming to bridge the gap between plankton community ecology and aquatic biogeochemistry.

This means that Prime Minister Abe exerted great efforts to make the security bills acceptable to Japanese voters largely by abandoning his original ideological agenda. It can be said that Abe’s administration is not anxious to make a radical shift in national security policy, as that might endanger previous positive support for Abe’s security agendas. In this sense, Abe’s security shifts have so far been largely the result of incrementalism. Furthermore, it remains necessary to create a new consensus on Japan’s security strategy that can move Japan beyond the Yoshida Doctrine. Abe’s intention has been to replace that doctrine with his own. But the task remains undone.

Members of the Advisory Panel on Reconstruction of the Legal Basis for Security, including myself, were also there and due to submit our final report to him recommending that the government revise the previous constitutional interpretation on the exercise of the right of collective self-defense. The submission of this report, as expected, aroused a great political debate in Japan, which has not abated.

Congenital disorder characterization can be equally benefit by the use of these morphometric approaches.

One of the most important questions is whether this vision aims to contain a rapidly rising China. Along with the amelioration of the relationship between Japan and China, this diplomatic strategy has been evolved from the quadrilateral security cooperation among leading democracies in this region, namely the US, Japan, Australia, and India, to a more comprehensive regional cooperation. This article regards the latter diplomatic strategic as the “FOIP 2.0” and that there emerges a possible harmony between Japan’s FOIP and China’s controversial Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
