I've been seeing this one around my f-list too, and I think it's so interesting! I love seeing what's popular and what people think of their top 5s-- whether they're surprised or pleased or what. Here goes!
Top Five by Bookmarks 1. Crushed Star Trek AOS, Chekov/Sulu, PG, just because/no fest, 4499 words (18 bookmarks) 2. The Week After the Morning After Star Trek AOS, Kirk/Sulu, PG-13, written for the second annual Sulu-Off, 1591 words (17 bookmarks) 3. Second Cup Harry Potter, Dudley/Draco, PG-13, written for dudley_redeemed, 11,845 words (16 bookmarks) 4. A Week of Coming Out Harry Potter, Gen featuring Ginny and her brothers, PG-13, written for lgbtfest, 2302 words (13 kudos 4. Things Are Gonna Get Brighter Harry Potter, Dean/Seamus, R, written for hp_porninthesun, 2928 words (13 kudos)
I currently have 113 works archived at AO3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 113 (the first thing I posted there), and I'll tell you three things I currently like or three random tidbits about it.
Trying to regain my momentum and recreate what was lost of my Beholder fic. Then, you know, finish it. It's due in less than a week and I'm back to basically nothing! *INFINITE HEADDESKING*
I'm keeping the adorable image of Chekov running through the ship shouting I CAN DO ZAT in my head. I'm not a 17 year old genius or nearly as cute but I CAN DO ZIS!
*whimpers* *rallies* *does the impossible* (Cuz that'll make me mighty!)
Positive thoughts and encouragement appreciated.
Also, on a luckier note (hardy har har)! I just posted my fic to the comm for the hp_getlucky Fest! Not Exactly Cinderella (Kingsley/Tonks, PG-13) Check it out! [/self pimp] And don't forget to check out the other goodies posting there all month! (I still need to get reading!)
So instead of cleaning my kitchen and working diligently on my fic for hp_beholder, as I vowed to do today, I have spent much of yesterday and today archiving my fics over at AO3. I now have like 70 fics there including (I think) all my fest and longer pieces plus a number of the drabbly bits that I particularly enjoyed/were popular when cross posted/were a bit longer. I think it'll be good to have my fics archived elsewhere, too, as LJ has been known to eat things from time to time.
I am proud seeing all my fics up there like that! It's fun to be able to sort and filter. I never have managed to create a Master List of all my fics, so this might be an easier place to view them for people who are looking. Yay! Plus, it's fun to get kudos/comments on some of my older stuff again now that it's elsewhere with a new crowd of potential readers. Also, this way if I sign up for challenges over there or remix type things, my material will be easy to find.
Beholder fic is languishing in my brain. I know what I want to happen ... mostly. But it's not really coming out of my brain and into the nice Word document. Right now I have just under 500 words. To be fair, it's just set up stuff, so the rest should work itself out okay when I force myself to focus. Plan: I have another full day layover this week. Last week's was spent finalizing/posting purimgifts stuff and this week shall be devoted to Beholder. I can reward myself with episodes on Netflix each time I achieve 300 or 500 words or whatever. It also helps that I don't think I have much else to put up on AO3, so I'm hoping it will stop distracting me!
I should write more. Instead, I think that Myka needs some snuggles ... and um, I should have some tea. *FAIL KAT*
Hi! So with all these exchanges underway, I've got a question. What are my writing "tells"? Are there certain things I do in my writing or headers or whatever that make it easy to spot me? What makes you go, "Oh yeah, that's Katy all right!"? Anything you can think of that tips my hand. I'd be ever grateful for your input!
So I renewed my paid account today, got a new userhead, (Oh hai! Look at my shiny, luscious hair now! No, it doesn't look anything like that in real life.) and then went icon shopping. Uploaded a whole bunch of new ones, which makes me happy! Now I need chances to use them all! This one I think shall be used quite a lot ... HAHA!
Sent dysfuncentine off to betas and realized it really needs another scene to make the story work. *sigh* C'mon brain. I'm quite unmotivated at the moment, so perhaps I'll come back tomorrow and figure it out. *points to new icon*
Husband is off at a snow tubing birthday party for a friend. I was far too exhausted to go and am staying home alone. Bumming around LJ, watching Dr Who, snuggling with Myka, and maybe taking a nice bath sound FAR better to me tonight. Tired Katy is tired.
So I'm on a crazy writing spree--I want to write all the stories! Perhaps I'm just working too much and need an outlet. (I write a LOT of my fic in a moleskine notebook in the galley of my airplanes ...)
dysfuncentine nearly finished-- will need a beta who's up for helping me with a complicated format.
A nice, positive post, because DAMN IT! I WANT TO BE CHEERFUL!
♥ I just turned in my fic for hprare_cliche! (Late, yes, but well within acceptable parameters!) You should all be watching that comm for the delights. I think my selected trope/cliche was not what I actually ended up writing, but I totally love it. Including the character who just hopped into the story and took over. So much fun to write! SQUEE!
♥ I have much of my fic for dysfuncentine written in my notebook. Now just have to organize it and type it up and finish up a few more scenes. Proceeding very nicely!
♥ Yesterday my nephew's babysitter got the flu so I got to spend all afternoon snuggling with a super adorable and wonderfully cuddly almost six-month-old. Definitely a good pick-me-up!
♥ I've been reading tons of FitzSimmons fics, because they are adorable x a billion. I cannot get enough of them. Alas, I've nearly exhausted my options on AO3. Any other Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans know of good communities on lj? Need not be FitzSimmons-specific. I'm such a sucker for adorable geniuses, especially pretty ones who work together and are best friends and finish each others sentences. *squishes them* I haven't had this much cuteness since the height of Sulu/Chekov in 2009! Happy happy happy! (And dang it, I need some happy fluff in my life right now!)
♥ Husband & I are in the middle of Season 4 of Buffy and Spike's just come back and I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING. We got past the awkward transition part of the season and are into the good stuff. Initiative Smitiative, I might find the over-all story arc of the season unimpressive, but S4 has got some of the best comedic moments of the entire series imho and some really amazing individual eps. Anyone who wants to come squee with me about Buffy, feel free! I love BtVS discussion!
Um, that is all. Now I am going to go snuggle with my husband, think happy thoughts, and have a lovely evening. You all do the same!
PS-- Thank you all for your comments on my recent posts. They've been enlightening and incredibly helpful. Both my personal stuff and also my Tell A Flight Attendant post. I got some great responses, but I haven't responded because I think I shall keep them screened for privacy's sake. But thank you. All. Best Support Network a girl could ask for.
Hi lovelies! If you've been on the fence or if you just haven't heard, femmefest is making its final call for participants! Sign up for a great exchange. All the HP ladies and all the fun! There is a ton of variety in the sign ups so far (they're unscreened-- which I love!-- so you can check them out at the sign up post) Tons of sweet, fluffy stuff if you like that (hey, you could write for me!); loads of kinky, darker stuff if that's your thing; and a huge variety of requested characters spanning at least four generations (possibly more-- there might have been some Founders stuff in there too ...)
With this on my plate, it's doubtful I'll sign up for Beholder this year, but we'll see. I also signed up for dysfuncentine, which is very new to me and exciting. Definitely pushing the envelope here on my sign ups this year and I like it.
Send me good writing vibes as I need to finish my fic for hprare_cliche today! *opens Word doc AGAIN and tries to ignore the lure of the f-list*
That's great!!! I have my eye on one of the D/G prompts. I'll see what can be done. I need to work out my time management first. I also need to figure out if I'm writing for…
That's actually a change from previous years-- we aren't closing claiming! So you can claim up until the due date. So it's up to you depending on how long you feel you need! The due date isn't until…
