2026 SAHRR Round 5 – Two Colors

Gail is the hostess with the mostest this week, well, actually with our quilting prompt. Gail blogs at Quilting Gail and she is asking us to work with two colors. That should be easy for us and gives us a lot of variety in any block – shades of a color are the same color – right? Let’s see what I have in store for you this week, which includes, a few ideas and of course, my block revealed.

What Are Some Options?

Gail says that this week, we get to use 2 colors, and you can make any block you like. She also gave us permission to use a background so maybe that gets you now have 3. Here are a few blocks that caught my eye.

Row 1: Antique Mosaic, Flying Squares, Arkansas Snowflake
Row 2: Spool, Anvil, Bowtie
Row 3: Mosaic 21, Rising Star, Courthouse Steps

There are so many ways to without blocks, a checkerboard, half square triangles, gflying geese..the sky is the limit really with this prompt. Well, lets see what I chose.

My Block Reveal

I fell in love with the Wheel of Fortune Block. Wheels works with the gear theme, so I am happy with it! For two colors, I felt that I needed to use this background to balance out the blocks I have, as I approach this quilt like a sampler. Now, I have two with this background, two with some white in them, and two with another bluish print in the other two.

This was another adventure in paper piecing, but thankfully, not too much! Here are the first 4 pieces done. You could also call this focus print, purples and background to fit Gail’s prompt. Either works for me.

And now the second set of pieces. I could have only used one color, but I liked having two in this. It is sitting on one of my design boards that I made a long time ago for piecing, so the navy is not a part of the block.

And finally the finished block. I love the movement in it and it is a nice complement to the other blocks.

Unfortunately, I am just moments ahead of you and each week and each week I threaten to catch up. I think I have a plan I like and it requires next week’s block plus two more. I am not sure if I will repeat any….what is your guess? It is a simple layout, so my intention is to show you a top next week too…WHAT….are we really at the last week of rounds?? My goodness that went by fast. I better get quilting!
