Publication / النشر : Les « Magasins nord » de Thoutmosis III à Karnak.

The “Northern Storerooms” of Thutmosis III are a set of eight chambers accessible through the corridor within the sandstone enclosure of the Temple of Amun-Re at Karnak. Built by Thutmosis III during his autonomous reign after the death of Queen Hatshepsut, these chambers form a complex with restricted access that underwent several architectural transformations. Among the most remarkable are the modification of its western entrance during Thutmosis III’s own reign and the decoration of one of the chambers by Ptolemy IX Soter II, nearly fourteen centuries after its construction.

This complex maintains close connections with other structures from the reign of Thutmosis III, including the Akh-menu, the new cultic center of the Temple of Amun-Re, as well as the access areas and the central part of the Karnak Temple.

This volume presents, for the first time, all of the epigraphic material, largely unpublished, from this sector (including facsimiles, hieroglyphic texts, and translations), along with complete photographic coverage, undertaken after the completion of a major restoration and conservation programme in 2016.

The monument known as Philip Arrhidaeus’ bark-shrine is the granite chapel built in the central area of the Temple of Amun-Re in Karnak. As a permanent resting place for the divine bark, it is located at the same place as the bark-shrine of Thutmose III, inserted into the complex of the “Palace of Maat” built during the reign of Hatshepsut. Cleared and partially rebuilt by Georges Legrain at the beginning of the 20th century, the chapel was restored and its colors fixed during work undertaken by the CFEETK in 1992-1993. With the resumption of the epigraphic and photographic survey programme (2010-2017), the long-awaited publication of this emblematic monument built in the heart of Ipet-sut can now be proposed.

إعلان / Achèvement de la mise en ligne de la Chapelle-reposoir de Philippe Arrhidée / The Bark-shrine of Philip Arrhidaeus is now fully available online / الانتهاء من إتاحة مقصورة الاستراحة الخاصة بفيليب أرهيدايوس بالكامل أونلاين

http://sith.huma-num.fr/karnak/2610

Begun in 2014, the online publication of the scenes and inscriptions of the Chapel of Philip Arrhidaeus is now complete. All hieroglyphic inscriptions of this monument with transliteration and bibliography, old photographic documentation as well as a new complete high definition photographic survey are available in the Karnak project.

As a permanent repository for the divine bark, it is located in the same place as the chapel of Thutmosis III, which was inserted into the complex of the “Palace of Maât” built during the reign of Hatshepsut. Long considered as a faithful copy of the Thutmosis III building, Philip Arrhidaeus’s chapel, although largely inspired by the Thutmoside construction, has some remarkable features.

This article is concerned with the technical and methodological challenges encountered during a project to comprehensively document the inscriptions of the largest ancient Egyptian temple. This project aims to produce a complete inventory, and editing of, primary textual sources written in several varieties of the ancient Egyptian language and script: hieroglyphs, hieratic and demotic. The issues discussed concern the implementation of the digital tool, the need for a network of collaborators in order to process the large volume of documentation, and the need to identify digital solutions to preserve textual data from the Egyptian site. Finally, the lexicographic aspect of the project is discussed.

This first instalment of the Glossary of the Inscriptions of Karnak, devoted to vocabulary, was made possible by the systematic examination of the epigraphic documentation from the temples of Karnak undertaken as part of the Karnak Project (“Investissements d’Avenir” Programme, ANR-11-LABX-0032-01, LabEx ARCHIMEDE). Launched in 2013, this project to edit the inscriptions of the temples of Karnak aims to collect, organise, and make accessible the corpus of textual sources written in hieroglyphic, hieratic, and Demotic scripts that are preserved in, or originate from, the temples of Karnak. For nearly four years, the project has been progressively making both published and previously unpublished texts from Karnak, collated in situ, available through an online interface.

The present volume contains slightly more than 1,600 entries documenting the uses of individual words, representing approximately 100,000 attestations in the inscriptions processed to date.

The first versions of the Glossary of the Inscriptions of Karnak, each bearing a version date, will be made available in PDF format on the websites of the Franco-Egyptian Centre for the Study of the Temples of Karnak (MAE/CNRS USR 3172) and the Égypte Nilotique et Méditerranéenne research team at the University of Montpellier (CNRS UMR 5140).

إعلان / Inauguration de la nouvelle interface du projet Karnak et ouverture des index des inscriptions de Karnak / Launch of the New Karnak Project Interface and Opening of the Karnak Inscriptions Indexes / افتتاح الواجهة الجديدة لمشروع الكرنك وإتاحة فهارس نقوش الكرنك

http://sith.huma-num.fr/karnak

Four years after its launch and the online publication of the first hieroglyphic inscriptions from Karnak, the Karnak Project has reached a new milestone with the launch of a new interface providing access to the inscriptions and to tools for exploring the texts according to their content.

Following its presentation at the University of Montpellier on 12 June 2017, the new interface has now been made available online:

http://sith.huma-num.fr/karnak

Hosted on Huma-Num’s service infrastructure, this new interface provides access to all the data made available through the Karnak Project since 2013 and introduces new features for exploring the corpus of hieroglyphic sources from Karnak. Indexes of general vocabulary, elements of royal titulary, place names, ethnonyms and places of worship, theonyms and divine designations, and personal names are now available. These indexes are also integrated into the individual text records, allowing users to read the hieroglyphic inscriptions by hovering over the text and to explore the inscriptions according to their content.

http://sith.huma-num.fr/karnak

Temple de Ptah / Temple of PTah

https://sith.huma-num.fr/karnak/246

Launched in 2016, the online publication of the scenes and inscriptions from the Temple of Ptah at Karnak, which has recently been published in the series Travaux du Centre Franco-Égyptien d’Étude des Temples de Karnak, has now been completed. All the hieroglyphic inscriptions from this monument, together with their transliterations and reference bibliographies, the historical photographic documentation, and a new, comprehensive set of high-resolution photographs, are available through the Karnak Project.

In its present state, the Temple of Ptah spans a chronological period extending from the reign of Thutmose III (c. 1479–1425 BCE) to that of Tiberius (14–37 CE).

Started in May 2014, the online edition of the scenes and inscriptions of the temple of Opet at Karnak is now complete. All the hieroglyphic inscriptions, transliteration and bibliographical references, old photographic documentation and a new complete high resolution photographic survey of this monument are available in the Karnak project. The temple was mainly built during the end of the Ptolemaic and Roman Period. It shows original and particularly well-preserved scenes related to the main episodes of the Osirian myth. The soubassement of its external faces offer geographical texts extremely rich related to the provinces and their local deity.
