Inspiring young Texans to explore and preserve history since 1939

Hands-On History for Grades 4–12

A TSHA program where students learn by doing—researching, creating, and sharing Texas history.

Junior Historians is TSHA’s extracurricular program for grades 4–12 that turns curiosity into discovery. Chapters form in schools and community institutions, giving students a place to investigate local stories, analyze primary sources, and present their work through papers, exhibits, documentaries, performances, or websites.

Along the way, students build real-world skills—research, writing, public speaking, visual design, and teamwork—while learning Texas history where it happened: in their communities. Many students go on to compete at Texas History Day and see their work recognized statewide, including publication opportunities in The Texas Historian.

We aim at inspiring our students to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more in their respective journeys of life.
