I wrote this on my phone about three weeks ago and never sent it through. Fixing that now!
Been 30 for over a week now. It's not too different from my 20s: I still can stay up until dawn with good company. I still jump in the air at the top of an elevator ride when the change in acceleration makes me feel lighter and jump higher. I still play dress-up and make-believe. I still get excited about shiny things in my hair. I still like mac 'n' cheese. I still can flirt with a guy at a social event and have him look me up and drop me a line afterwards. (woo!) I still play with toys. I still idly wonder if I'll notice when I grow up.
Things I'm in the middle of and need to finish: * Twin Peaks * Spaced (with usernamenumber) * Discworld * mailing Sara's mended purse * knitting Sara's new purse * knitting bunnies for Lily * unpacking * paying off debt * various relationship negotiations * this list? ;)
I have learned in the past few days: 1. It's called a "method crush" and is not solely about or attributable to gower . 2. NASA once discovered that women fart more than men. 3. My voice is more passable than I previously thought. 4. chaiya will be Con Chair for Arisia 2011!
Almost as annoying as watching someone else play Solitaire and holding back from giving tips? Listening to other people solve a crossword when it's rude to butt in and give hints. I had to move seats.
Gift idea: if anyone finds a pie-related keychain anywhere in the world, please get it for me? :)
Also good news: I finally got around to checking the Zipcars nearest the Piehole, and there is a Prius! My Zipcar usage to date has always revolved around the question of "be quick and rent the nearest car, or be choosy/fun/frugal/conscious and rent the nearest Prius?" Now they can be the same answer!
Today is bright and sunny, if you couldn't tell. And now I'm off to a party and good food. Yay.
As we are currently under a winter wonderland here in Boston, today I wore my cat-eared hat. (For some reason, I feel odd wearing it if there's no snow. I wonder when I got into that habit?) While walking to the subway for my morning commute, a passer-by (male, dressed casually nice, 20s-30s) waved and got my attention just to say, "Meow how are you meow?" with childish joy in his voice. Made me smile.
Today I got to sleep in, and when I woke the sun was shining and both cats were in bed with me. Bad days happen, and today might even turn into one, but right now I'm sitting pretty on optimism.
I used to think there were just a few threads at my core, with a bit of elasticity but still prone to breakage. I could slowly replace them, but most of the time at least half of them were broken.
Right now I'm working on "pinky-thick metal rod." Don't know if it's steel. It bends. It's stressed. It's not THAT thick. But it's there.
I previously posted about the Chinese restaurant of doubious quality a couple doors down from The Pie Hole.
While driving by it this morning, I saw a huge sign: Under New Management. Then another sign: Pho (somethingorother), the latter bit forgotten because the bottom of that sign said, "Vietnamese and Thai Cuisine."
THEY OPENED A THAI RESTAURANT PRACTICALLY ON THE FIRST FLOOR OF MY NEW APARTMENT.
Not gonna lie: I screamed a little.
Jesus Christ, guys. Jesus holy fucking amazing Christ. Apologies for the blasphemy, but I know of no other words to convey my thoughts and amazement here.
The Earth is fucking awesome. I am inspired to go to the library and find a book of the history of flight. What did the first person to fly above the clouds say and think? I can't wait until I do it. Hope the years fly by. Edit after landing (since I had to wait to send this): dude, I don't think I've ever flown into LaGuardia before. The lighting at sunset was perfect and NYC looked awesome! This flight was just a treat. Did I mention I'm in the first row with no seatmate? :)
While I'm waiting in line to vote, figured I'd get some thoughts and recollections out onto this here nifty LJ program I have on my phone. Oh, neat. Denise Simmons, the Mayor of Cambridge just walked by, out of the voting center. Woo public officials.
My Velma Halloween costume was a hit. Red shoes, orange knee socks, red pleated skirt, orange turtleneck, and hair tucked into the turtleneck such to approximate a bob. And I made a box of Scooby Snacks to carry around. :) Turns out the snacks are a good way to make people make Scooby Doo noises!
Quish's party was really nice, and I'm sad I could only get there late and already exhausted and kinda moody. Everyone looked awesome, even those folks not in costumes! I didn't run away and cry at all, though a few folks made me misty. Doc_smiley gave me a handful of spoons! Sniffle. My friends are awesome.
RAtC was pretty fun, and looks to be another Werewolf LARP I'll be able to really get into. I need a free night to get on those forums and update things. Oh, and to update jmspencer for his D&D game. I still owe him some stuff.
This line is poor for my back. :/ Also I am hungry. Grar! Looks like I got here just in time, though. I joined the line about 5 people outside the door, and now it stretches out to and down the street. Yay voter turnout!
I'll be heading to rigel's watch party tonight after work. What with getting out at 8, I'll actually get there when the action STARTS!
Almost at the end of the line. Good night and good luck, all!
20 hours ago, I left the home of <lj user=rosinavs> to hook up with a vanpool of folk driving to upstate New York to stand in the rain watching grown men beat each other with sticks for rank. It was only somewhat cold, often <i>very</i> wet, and there were not many men whose rank I cared about. However, I had a really good time. I made excellent choices of clothing for the weather, had excellent company that kept me warm and entertained and *fed*, and heavy list fighting is actually pretty cool to watch.
So thank you, <lj user=etherial>, for making this happen when I came to you about it. Thank you <lj user=rosinavs> for also facilitating so many parts of the day and keeping me company. Thank you <lj user=rufinia> for your presence and translation during court. Thanks to others I saw but don't have names for. I had a good time!
You can kind of see the three little points of light that are their heads!
A few rows up there's some drunk guy who keeps giving the finger to the anti-war songs/band. He seems to have left now, though (intermission), so yay! No clue why he's at CSN if those are his thoughts.
