The Vindhyas as seen from Bhimbetka

I was browsing some Wikipedia sites about Indian rivers and mountain ranges, and via a chain of links, came across this page, about the Vindhyas as seen from Bhimbetka.

The Vindhyas are a large mountain range in central India.

I lived in Madhya Pradesh for some years as a teenager. Madhya Pradesh is called M.P. for short; the name means, loosely, middle state, referring to its geographic position in India.

The Vindhyas are partly in Madhya Pradesh, and Bhimbetka is in M.P. too.

I had visited Bhimbetka, and also traveled to, or through, many other places in M.P. generally, and the Vindhyas in particular (both within and outside of M.P., such as in Maharashtra, a neighboring state, for example) as a kid and teenager. I loved many of those places.

Sarek National Park, Lapland.

Three sizes of the same image. I've lived in places like that, for some time, but not so far north.

SVGFig, a pure Python SVG library

By Vasudev Ram

SVGFig is a pure Python library to generate and manipulate SVG images.

I came across it recently and tried it out a little.

Here's an example program I wrote, that uses SVGFig to generate a series of overlapping squares as an SVG image:

# test_svgfig.py
from svgfig import *

svgs = []
colors = [ "red", "green", "blue" ]

for x in range(10, 400, 50):
    y = x
    for j in range(3):
        svg = SVG("rect", x=x + 20 * j, y=y + 20 * j, \
            width=100, height=100, fill=colors[j])
        svgs.append(svg)

g = SVG("g", *svgs, fill_opacity="50%")
print g.xml()

I ran it with the command: python test_svgfig.py

That gave the output shown in the screenshot below (click image to enlarge):
