The purpose of collecting students’ feedback through structured questionnaire is to gather information on their perceptions on learning as well as their responses to the course and the teacher. The institutions seriously interested to enhance their teachers’ performance, collect feedback effectively and use it wisely. In this study the feedback was obtained from the students on the characteristics of the teachers and the courses in the engineering college in the middle of the semester to serve as useful Performance Appraisal tool for the teachers. This paper aims to measure the impact of students’ feedback on the teacher performance. Further the study is extended to identify the critical attributes of the teacher and the course to help the teachers to take strategic measures to enhance their performance during the next semester of their teaching and the course. 
In the present study, three years data on students’ feedback was considered and pair wise comparison was made between the ratings of successive years for the teacher who has handled the same subject for successive years. The result analysis is described separately for theory and practical subjects considering teacher and course variables such as, gender wise, experience wise semester wise and branch wise. The result shows that there is a positive impact of students’ evaluation on the performance of the teachers however the teacher and course variables have no significant impact on the performance of the teachers. Few suggestive measures are proposed for further improvements in the performance of the teacher and the course.

Abstract: SWOT (acronym for ‘Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats) is an instrument for analysis and evaluating various aspects of the functioning of an organisation. It is a tool that not only generates the data regarding the internal functioning of an organisation but also helps to outline the future course of action for its growth and development. While ‘Strengths’ and ‘Weaknesses’ will help to realise the data on internal functioning, analysis of ‘Opportunities’ and ‘Threats’ depicts the external factors that impinge upon its present day working. SWOT can also influence the decisions on the future prospects and plan of action of an organisation. Thus while it evaluates existing situation in an organisation, it is also futuristic. It shows the road that an organisation can take and the difficulties and problems it is likely to face in its march towards growth and development. Thus this is a tool many organisations use for strategic planning as well. The present paper describes the different steps to carryout SWOT analysis of an educational institution with a case study of a rural engineering college. The paper puts forward major recommendations in the form of strategic actions for bringing about significant quality improvements for making an engineering college more efficient, effective and responsive.
