Gain access to omics technologies generating community data at zero cost — submit a proposal.
The JGI offers deep expertise and a broad toolset.
The JGI at a Glance
This year, the JGI served a record number of primary users — 2,627 researchers around the world had active proposals with us, along with more than 17,000 researchers who made use of our data. As of the end of fiscal year 2025 fiscal, we've completed a total of 349,105 projects.
Each year, the JGI solicits novel research projects from PIs who have not led any previously accepted proposals. The New Investigator call, part of our Community Science Program, allows us to work and share our tools with a widening circle of researchers. For FY26 we welcome 38 recipients.
With an eye to harnessing nitrogenase-like enzymes, researchers have recently characterized a specific enzyme, Methylthio-alkane Reductase (MAR) in host bacteria Rhodospirillum rubrum. Their work in Nature Catalysis details an enzyme system that was previously only understood at a genetic level.
