Zamysł przedstawienia kantowskiej koncepcji wolności może wydawać się nieco karkołomny 1 , poniew... more Zamysł przedstawienia kantowskiej koncepcji wolności może wydawać się nieco karkołomny 1 , ponieważ obok tzw. pojęcia przyrody (Natur) pojęcie wolności (Freiheit) jest najbardziej ogólnym, jakie występuje w filozofii Kanta, i jako takie nie tylko stanowi klucz do rozumienia jego filozofii określanej jako praktyczna, ale jest też podstawową trudnością w jej rozumieniu. Tak ujęta wolność jest bowiem pojęciem bardzo rozbudowanym i trudnym do jednoznacznego ujęcia. Pojawia się na wielu poziomach refleksji filozofa z Królewca i przyjmuje wiele postaci. Jak zatem można spróbować opisać koncepcję tak skomplikowaną i wielowymiarową? Trzeba rozpocząć tam, gdzie wydaje się, że interesujące nas pojęcie pojawia się w postaci najogólniejszej, a jednocześnie w postaci, która w pewien sposób organizuje całą dyskusję. Trzeba mianowicie zacząć od obecnego w filozofii Kanta schematu: przyroda-wolność. Przyroda i wolność Przyroda i wolność, a ściślej rzecz biorąc: "świat pojęcia wolności i świat pojęć przyrody", to najszerszy podział, jaki znajdziemy w Kantowskim systemie. Można powiedzieć, że jest to schemat, który wyznacza ład całej filozofii Kanta. Jego istnienie sygnalizowane jest w wielu dziełach, w tym oczywiście w Krytykach, ale szczególnego znaczenia nabiera w Krytyce władzy sądzenia, gdzie pojawia się nie tylko jako element formalny, ale również jako problem 2. 1 Allison uważa, że problematyka wolności (theory of freedom) jest najtrudniejszym aspektem filozofii Kanta.

The article is devoted to various aspects of Machiavelli's deliberations that can be found in the... more The article is devoted to various aspects of Machiavelli's deliberations that can be found in the 15 th chapter of his famous work Il Principe. The first part of the article addresses the question of the legitimacy of translating the Italian "Il Principe" into the Polish term "Książę". This issue is presented against the background of the entire history of the Polish translation of this work. The following parts of the article are devoted to the analysis of Chapter XV of The Prince. Focusing on this fragment of the philosopher's work is justified by the thesis that constitutes the most philosophical and, consequently, the most important part of his work. The conclusions that can be drawn from his analysis allow us to understand what were the basic assumptions of Florentine's political philosophy.

This article attempts to explain the ambiguities appearing in connection with John Locke’s concep... more This article attempts to explain the ambiguities appearing in connection with John Locke’s concept of ‘the state of nature’. This philosopher’s concept is often juxtaposed with a similar approach of Thomas Hobbes, indicating that Locke’s vision is relatively mild compared to the Hobbesian state of war. According to the philosopher of Malmesbury, the state of nature is ‘brutish and short’, and in the case of Locke, there are some moments when we begin to ask why this state should be left at all. The considerations contained in this article are meant to show that Locke’s approach proves to be not entirely consistent and ultimately, in its most consistent form, is not much different from Hobbes’ vision.

Oczywiście ów "cud" nowych publikacji Arendt jest możliwy dzięki temu, co po sobie pozostawiła: niepublikowane teksty, pisma rozproszone, notatki. Tom Odpowiedzialność i władza sądzenia jest przekładem anglojęzycznej publikacji Responsibility and Judgment, stanowiącej jeden z trzech zbiorów niepublikowanych lub rozproszonych pism Hannah Arendt, wydawanych systematycznie przez Jerome Kohna. I... more The emission of nitrogen monoxide in the atmosphere is one of the main causes of air pollution. In this regards, the truck industry introduced the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) in exhaust after-treatment system of heavy-duty trucks. Through the use of urea water solution injected into the gas flow, NOx can be reduced to N 2 and H 2 O. The high temperatures in the exhaust system, together with the products of the reduction reactions, produce a particularly corrosive environment, strongly detrimental for the corrosion resistance of the stainless steels used. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of nitridation on the oxidation resistance of AISI 444 ferritic stainless steel. The oxidation of both as-received and nitrided 444 coupons in the presence of 10% H 2 O was investigated in the temperature range of 450 and 600°C. The exposure time was between 24 and 168 hours. The samples were characterized by using several techniques including LOM, SEM, EDS, XPS, XRD. An expanded ferrite phase supersaturated with nitrogen was formed on the surface of 444 ferritic stainless steel after plasma nitriding at about 400°C. The layer thicknesses were about 10-20 μm with a nitrogen atomic content of about 15-13%. The detrimental effect of nitridation was very strong on the oxidation resistance of ferritic 444. The oxide scales formed on nitrided samples were 50-100 times thicker than on as-received samples. The lower chromium activity in nitrided 444 due to formation of short-range ordering with nitrogen decreases the chromium diffusion toward the surface and hinders formation of protective oxides. The oxidation on 444 ferritic stainless steel definitely decreased with increasing temperatures, although the larger formation of Cr-nitrides at higher temperatures. The increase of chromium diffusion due both to higher temperatures and larger leak of nitrogen from the expanded ferritic phase improves the oxidation resistance of the ferritic 444. The oxidation resistance in presence of 10% H 2 O at 450-600°C seems better for nitrided 444 ferritic stainless steel than for nitrided 304L austenitic stainless steel investigated in previous studies.
