(ADL) and their level. Different therapeutic approaches are used for improving the
level of performance after a stroke. This study was performed with the aim of evaluating
the effect of group-based occupational therapy on improving the performance
of ADL and satisfaction of its performance in patients with chronic strokes.
Methods: Fourteen chronic stroke patients with the mean age of 52 years participated
in the study. The participants were assigned into two groups (control and treatment).
The level of performance of ADL, level of stroke disability, and participation were
respectively evaluated by Barthel index (BI), modified Rankin scale (MRS), and Canadian
Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). Six sessions of group therapy
tasks were scheduled with an emphasis on three main activities, including mobility
exercises, craft, and cooking.
Results: The COPM changes in the ‘performance’ and ‘satisfaction’ scores in the
treatment group and the ‘performance’ scores in the control group were significant.
The MRS scale in the two groups revealed no change in the level of stroke disability.
However, the changes in the ADL performance in BI were significant.
Conclusion: The current study indicated that doing daily, craft, and mobility activities
in the groups can affect the ‘performance’ and ‘satisfaction’ levels in stroke patients.

Methods: We tested the accuracy of the ICF against risk of falls amongst 568 community dwelling participants of the Australian Longitudinal Survey on Women's Health (ALSWH). We linked health-related variables to the ICF using ten linking rules. The logistic regression analysis evaluated the relationship between the variables and the outcome of falls. Self-report surveys measured daily functioning, health service use, medications, housing and social support. Results: Variables aligned with the ICF components of body function, health conditions, environment, activity and participation (ADL/IADL), and general health were significantly associated with falls. Discussion and conclusion: Mapping ALSWH health-related data to ICF components identified significant risk factors for falls are related to health conditions, functional limitations and home hazards. Biopsycho-social approaches guided by the ICF framework are crucial for fall prevention.

The purpose of the present study was to design, develop and evaluate the test-retest and internal consistency reliability as well as face, content and convergent validity of the computer- based selective visual attention test (SeVAT) for healthy first-grade school children. Methods: In the first phase of this study, the computer-based SeVAT was developed in two versions of original and parallel. Ten experts in occupational therapy helped to measure the content validity using the CVR and CVI methods. Face validity was measured through opinions collected from 10 first-grade children. The convergent validity of the test was examined using the Spearman correlation between the SeVAT and Stroop test. In addition, test-retest reliability was determined by measuring the intra-class correlation (ICC) between the original and parallel versions of the SeVAT in a single session. The internal consistency was calculated by Cro...

All the research articles in 10 Iranian scientific journals between 2004 and 2010 were reviewed by two independent occupational therapists. During seven years period of time, occupational therapists published 51articles in the journals. The Holm's classification system was employed to identify the level of evidence for each article. The randomized controlled trials studies (level II) were the highest number of the published research articles, and there was not any systematic review publication in the included journals. Pediatric and school based articles were the most commonly used practice area (45%), and the least ones were geriatric articles (6%). The levels of research articles are compatible with other studies elsewhere. However, the number of publications is less than developed countries, especially in the mental health and geriatric areas of practice.

The aim of this qualitative study was to explore the factors influencing the clinical reasoning of occupational therapists. Twelve occupational therapy practitioners working in mental and physical dysfunction fields participated in this study. The sampling method was purposeful and interviews were continued until data saturation. All the interviews were recorded and transcribed. The data were analyzed through a qualitative content analysis method. There were three main themes. The first theme: socio-cultural conditions included three subthemes: 1- client beliefs; 2- therapist values and beliefs; 3- social attitude to disability. The second theme: individual attributions included two subthemes 1- client attributions; 2- therapist attributions. The final theme was the workp...

Computerized assessment of attention recently, due to the high precision and attractive are looking more by researchers. The purpose of this study was to determination factors influencing the computer based assessment of selective attention in children with 7 to 8 years old.

Study Design and Setting: The HOME FAST-SR was designed using expert review, pretesting and piloting. Agreement of selfreported home hazard ratings and ratings by health professionals was evaluated using the kappa statistic. The HOME FAST-SR was validated in a cross-sectional survey of 568 older community-living Australian women using endorsement rates for HOME FAST-SR items and the association of scores with self-reported falls.

Method: One hundred and twenty patients with MS and 75 age-matched healthy controls were enrolled. Participants were asked to answer the valid and reliable Persian version of the Beck depression inventory (BDI), Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and translated MFIS questionnaires. Twenty cases filed the questionnaire two weeks later to assess reliability. The intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC), Cronbach's alpha and multiple regression analysis were used. Results: The total MFIS score and subscale scores differed significantly between the patients with MS and the healthy controls. The ICCs and Cronbach's alpha values were also outstandingly high. There was a significant correlation between the FSS and MFIS scores in patients (r ¼ 0.69, p50.001). Also, a significant correlation was investigated between the scores of the BDI and the MFIS (r ¼ 0.68, p50.001). Multiple linear regression analysis between the MFIS as a dependent variable and Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), BDI and disease duration as independent variables showed that the BDI and EDSS are dependent predictors of the MFIS. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the Persian version of MFIS can be regarded as a valid and reliable scale for assessing fatigue in Iranian patients with MS.

Besides primary emphasis of OT pioneers; the OT practitioners do not care about using it seriously yet. So, this study was designed to explore the current method of delivering occupational therapy services among Iranian occupational therapists.
Materials & Methods The qualitative conventional content analysis with purposeful sampling method was used in this study. 14 occupational therapists participated in this study. Semi structured interviews were used for data gathering. The data gathering continued until reaching data saturation. The interviews were analyzed through constant comparative analysis using MAXQDA 2007 software.
Results The interviews analysis revealed 66 codes that resulted to six sub themes and three themes including: Occupation based OT (occupation based assessment and planning –hard working circumstances for occupation based therapists), technique based OT (inattention to occupation based practice- top down approach to assessment and planning-inattention to client-centered practice) and combined occupation and techniques based OT (assessment and planning with combined approach)
Conclusion It seems that the Iranian occupational therapists have deviated from their philosophical paradigm (occupation based practice) and tended to technique based OT. Lots of possible reasons such as contextual barriers, non-acceptance from clients’ perspective and educational challenges are considered in this issue. Therefore, the policy makers ought to plan and supervise to solve these challenges and to facilitate implementing occupation based practice.
