I have just read the game for the first time but it feels as if there is something missing or I am misunderstanding something.
The special abilities are just two word prompts? I have to make them up as I go? Or do I oversee a reference somewhere? Example: "a desperate gamble; ninth life". That's it?
And Crow and Fox are just placeholders for an example of play? As in Player 1 and Player 2?

the short phrases don’t provide any mechanical benefit — they’re simply narrative prompts to help nudge the players forward in the storytelling. each player gets one special ability that affects the mechanics, from the three options available, depending on which secret they chose during band creation.
