Joe has won five Hugos, five Nebulas, and is a Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association Grandmaster of science fiction. His best-known book is The Forever War. His latest novel is Work Done for Hire. His graphic novels, The Forever War and Forever Peace are available from Titan Comics. Joe was a combat soldier in Vietnam, which strongly influences his work. He is retired from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he taught writing every fall semester for 30 years.
