I had to get over it, let it go. Move on. So I decided to start watching some of the contenders this year. This week I needed to play a bit of catch up and I saw both True Grit & The King's Speech.

So... some reviews...

Movie: True Grit (Coen Bros)
Staring: Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin & Hailee Steinfeld
Rating: A

Thoughts: I loved it. I'm a fan of the Coen Brothers in general, loved No Country for Old Men and this one I liked better. I'm a Westerns lover as a whole, so this was right up my alley. The direction was phenomenal, the actors were on par, the script was great, cinematography etc. Excellent. I think this one is going to take the Oscar for Best Direction and Hailee Steinfeld totally has a chance of winning Best Supporting Actress, she definitely steals the film from right under these seasoned actors.

Jeff Bridges was perfection, as always, as Rooster - an old cowboy with a speech impediment (quite honestly I didn't understand half of what he was saying) and a sour outlook on life. His chemistry with Hailee was right on, he plays the classic grumpy man that is bothered by the inquisitive teen and thus changes his life in a heroic manner. He definitely gave The Duke a run for his money as Rooster. However, despite his awesome portrayal I do not believe Jeff will take home the Oscar for Best Actor. I think that is going to go in the direction of Colin Firth as I will explain later.

Matt Damon was awesome. I know a lot of people (critics) felt he was out of place but to me he was right in there. He was meant to stand out, he was meant to be awkward and he did just that. Matt plays a Texas Ranger who is all talk and little action until the end. He's got a thing for young teen girls and still manages to be endearing and a hero at the end. I loved everything about his portrayal from the lisp he's got to develop halfway through the film to his relationship with Mattie (can we say odd sexual tension?) to his animosity with Rooster and his overall opposite of the Rooster character. I cheered in the end and wished we saw more of him in the end.

Josh Brolin was perfect as this larger than life outlaw who when you finally meet him he's a dim-witted fellow.

Another one worth a mention was Barry Pepper as Lucky Ned was such a pleasant and welcomed surprise. Everything from his makeup to his little time on screen he really was the only one who Hailee couldn't steal the scene from.

And finally Hailee Steinfeld basically owns this film as an inquisitive, smart-mouthed teen who bites off more than she can chew. She's both precious, annoying, awe-inspiring and kick-ass in this her first film. I was supremely impressed by her talent that actresses twice her age wish they had. She keeps getting described in the film as ugly and plain but the truth is that as the film progresses you find her more and more impressive until she becomes this unexpected heroine. I adored her and really cant wait to see more of her. She knows how to play off the chemistry of the actors and outshine them. Have to give her credit for it.

Overall, the acting was awesome and if you remotely enjoy some historical westerns you will most likely love this film. Like I said, I see it taking the Oscar for Direction and Hailee will give Helena a run for her money as Best Supporting Actress.

Movie: The King's Speech
Staring: Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter & Geoffrey Rush
Rating: A

Thoughts: This film is in most likelihood will take the Oscar for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor/Actress. It's a great film but to me the best part is Colin Firth, Rush and believe it or not Timothy Spall (Harry Potter's Peper Pettigrew) as Winston Churchill. The entire cast was great but those are my favorite and let me point out that Helena was also fantastic as Queen Elizabeth, spot on.

Colin Firth plays King George VI 'Bertie', a man who had a horrible stutter which embarrassed his family to no end. He grew up with no friends, an isolated life and always thinking little of himself despite his position in life while his older brother (King Edward/Guy Pearce), the rightful King grew up handsome, famous, popular with the ladies and the people while Bertie grew up in the shadows and that horrible stutter. He's lucky enough to have Elizabeth who is extremely supportive and completely believes in his capability as a leader. Firth's portrayal of a lonely and reserved man who has never had any interaction with common folk is precious and you really want to put him in your pocket. He's completely devoted to his older brother and never wishes the throne upon himself. I think he just wanted a quiet life with his wife and daughters and be left alone yet when the time comes for it he steps up and fulfills his duty despite his own physical incapability. In comes Geoffrey Rush.

Rush plays a self-taught man who helps with speech impediments by going to the root of the problem; the psychosis. Through talking with the Prince he realizes that Bertie's problem really is psychological rather than physical and working through this and other hilarious methods he makes a King out of the man.

The saddest scene to me was when Bertie finally confesses about his childhood and how his nanny used to pinch him before he would be introduced daily to his parents so that his parents wouldn't want to interact with him and preferred Edward over him. My heart completely broke because he's singing and yet it's such a sad and lonely story about the most powerful man in the world. I also about died when he breaks down crying after his father dies and Elizabeth goes to him in the study and tells him that she knew he was going to be a good King and that she fell in love with his stutter. The scenes with Bertie and his daughters were also precious and I loved them.

Churchill was awesome despite only having like 4 scenes, I wanted to put him in my pocket and squeeze him.

The other scene that made me and my roommate melt into a puddle of happy goo was when Bertie meets Myrtle, the wife of the therapist... now for us fundamentalists we knew exactly what this meant. It was as if Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy had a sudden reunion. Jennifer Ehle has such a small role and it's such a small scene and one sentence that they say to one another but I still died. It's known that Jennifer and Colin had a relationship while filming Pride & Prejudice so this made it even more spectacular. =D

In the end, expect this film to win a lot more than people will give it credit for, it was a really great film.

Overall.. I enjoyed True Grit better. Mostly because it's more adventure and those are the types of films I'm attracted to. But see them both, you wont regret it :)
I have some reviews coming! I been meaning to post them before this but honestly a project at work has taken over my life plus I am back to watching Novelas. I know, I promised 5 yrs ago I was quitting. I lied.

TV Show: The Cape (NBC)
Show Rating: C
Best Line: “Say hello to Dorothy, bitch.” ~ Rollo
Best Special Guest: Vinnie Jones as Scales. Why isn’t he a regular???

Thoughts: Like the majority of TV shows there’s always weak-links whose acting skill is quite honestly determined by their pretty looks. Lack of talent seems to bother no one when casting these fools, however it’s pretty seldom that you get the main actor to be such a link. The Cape has plenty of corny lines, predictable storylines (with the exception of Max not dying, thank the freaking Gods of TV) and an awesome supporting cast. The main hero’s storyline? Not so compelling. An honest cop whose world is turned upside down when he’s framed by his diabolical nemesis and fabulous English actor, James Frain. Boohoohoo. Perhaps it is my general apathy towards wholesome goody-two-shoes characters that plays an essential element in my general dislike for ‘The Cape’ and his family, but regardless of what it is I just don’t feel them. On the other hand, I’m very interested in those around him.

Summer Glau’s acting begs for someone in LA to grow a brain and get her, her own TV show. Granted, this character she plays is not as amazing as River (Firefly) but she holds her own as a sexy internet blogger and hacker with a mysterious source of endless money and unknown motives. I like. It’s sexy, intriguing and lies happily in the gray area.

Then there’s Max, played by the actor with the most panty-wetting voice ever, Keith David. I’ve had a love affair with Keith’s voice since he did the voice of Goliath in ‘Gargoyles’. He’s your stereotypical soulful black man who stands around to give ‘The Cape’ (or whatever his name is) advise. I about had a heart attack when you think he’s dying, I was ready to turn off my TV because if I can’t hear Keith’s voice then what is the point of it all? However, in a turn of rather brilliance the writers let him live to fight another day. I liked it! There’s more to Max than meets the eye.

Of course, the big bad. James Frain plays the “bwahahah”-villain ‘Chess’. Yes, you heard right. His name is ‘Chess’. I can’t even. Anyways, can’t dwell on it let us focus on James’ fantasticness. James comes on the screen and all one can think is ‘this just got good’ and it pretty much lets you survive past those cringing moments when he’s being all Bwahahah-evil-cause-I’m-wearing-evil-contacts. I know there’s a story behind that because from I could gather while I curled my lashes he’s been hurt before, his family destroyed. Predictable plot: ‘The Cape’ will feel he’s turning into ‘Chess’ since they have probably gone through the same only James Frain did it with more hair (The Cape seems to be balding).

The rest of the circus bank robbers are a lovely cast of characters which I rather watch than ‘The Cape’s wife and kid mourning him. I’ve said this before, I don’t always get sucked in per the premier. Premiers tend to suck but I’m having a really hard time getting over the main being so white bread. I will still record it and watch it Monday mornings as I’m getting ready, it’s the least I can do for Glau, David and Frain.

In closing: I don’t think this baby will last long which works out well for Glau lovers as this may give her the exposure she needs to finally have her own show. A+ I’m also afraid this will turn as corny as Smallville did because really how many times can the city come close to being destroyed? NBC cancels shows faster than people sleeping together in Grey's Anatomy so let us see... only time can tell.
https://isabellecs.livejournal.com/401231.html?view=comments#comments
tv shows","reviews
Posting some makeup pics!

Some more nail swatches and now I'll include some eye-looks I've done in the past few months. Originally I wanted to take her to see Harry Potter or Narnia but the shows started too late for her, she gets tired early. So I decided on Tangled, which I'd been wanting to see and since my younger niece lives in Puerto Rico and I had no excuse my excuse was my mother :)

She loved it, roared in laughter and chatted non-stop about it during dinner afterward.

I thought it was very reminiscence of old-Disney which is what a lot of people had said about it. For starters we're back to enchantments, Princesses, good songs, animals with awesome personalities. What I do have to commend this is on the actual animation of it, it was pretty darn amazing. From the hair on the horse to Rapunzel's nose and freckles and Flynn's eyebrows. It looked really amazing up close. I also loved the songs, especially 'Mama knows best'. I also must say that it was pretty hilarious, most especially Flynn. This is a strange thing as the main guy is usually never funny but he was, in his plotting and freaking out over her hair it was comical. I have honestly no complaints, my favorite line being Flynn stating at the end that he has a thing for brunettes, that's always a nice touch :)

The theater was filled (packed) with little tiny children that all became very confused when the wicked witch dies and for a full 5 min you could hear the whispers of mothers attempting to explain that she wasn't really dead. She had just disappeared. Kids are smarter than we think and I am pretty sure the two girls next to us didn't buy it for a second.

I must also say that I absolutely loved that the entire band of braggarts was gay, it took mom a second to pick up on it but the mime did her in.

It was a nice-fluffy movie to watch and I think I may buy it just to keep it around whenever kids drop by (and you know to enjoy it myself).

Also, check out my wallpaper of the fabulous, super arrogant and conceited Flynn.

<3 him.
Just a quick update to let you all know that Mom is doing much better, her surgery was on Tuesday and she's mostly now at home complaining but she'll live. Mom, Dad and my brother arrived on Friday night. Everything was going well until Saturday 1pm. We got to have a night tour of DC on Friday night, took the family to the Arlington Cemetery, enjoyed that a lot (as much as one can enjoy such a sad place), checked into the hotel, visited this lovely Holiday festival and we were walking towards the National Mall to hit our first stop at The Museum of Natural History when mom tripped over uneven sidewalk, landing forward on her arm. Thank god she was wearing like 5 layers of clothes because it was bitterly cold but it was still enough damage to not only dislocate her shoulder but to break her arm. So we spent Saturday from 1pm to 5:30pm in the hospital. Disaster. Of course she's crying and not letting my brother or father help her get up from the pavement, holding to her oddly-turned arm. I knew it was broken when I saw it.

So needless to say it's been an insane weekend. We just flew back today and she's seeing an orthopedic that the guy I'm kinda-sorta seeing recommended and he will determine today is she needs surgery or not.

Christ, so our mini-vacation was ruined, we hardly got to see anything, it was totally sad. Now this happens right before Christmas when we have so many plans and such and at the very least its going to be a few months before she's back to her old self, especially at her age.

I told her I couldn't take her anywhere.

Movie Rating: 4/5
Harry Potter Rating: 3/5
Conclusion: The good out-weighs the bad

I always try to see the HP movies on opening weekend and in years before I have been totally spoiled, seen clips, watched interviews that revealed clips, watched as many trailers as humanly possible etc. This year I went cold turkey because I found that it messed with me, I ended up seeing the entire movie before it even aired.

Deathly Hallows is in my top 3 books of the series, it's actually number 3; I want to re-read it someday. Not today but someday. I was so happy that they split the book in half <strike>they should've done that with the last 3 movies</strike> they were able to capture more details. Scenes still slipped through the cracks. And scenes, for some odd reason, where added... that will be further on...

High Points:

The actual animation of the tale of the Deathly Hallows - superb, I loved it!

The multiple Harrys, Harry in a bra and skirts was priceless

The kid's acting has improved DRAMATICALLY. I mean, if you've just finished watching a marathon like I did you'd instantly notice. Esp Emma, she's gotten so much better

They took the road less traveled and didn't do it 100% from Harry's POV like it usually is. A+

The woods were as drab and depressing as JK wrote them, very Burtonesque

RON/HERMIONE = perfection. I was so impressed by the vast improvement in the way they're written. they finally captured what the books always showed and the movies glossed over

Doby. Just Doby was regal and perfect.

Jason Isaacs and Helena are always so great, they're the perfect bads. They have great chemistry together and got me wishing they'd do a movie in the future together.

The twins!!! I adore the twins, they're one of my faves and their scenes were priceless. They're so cute too, they're the cutest of the cast I think.

Low/WTF Points:

As much as I love Harry/Ginny, the "zip me up" scene was a WTF. I always felt like the movies failed to capture what Harry is feeling towards Ginny the way the books do, in book 6 & 7 there's a lot of internal thought and moping, a little flashback to her would be ideal just to let non-book readers know what he's thinking/feeling/longing for. The bedroom scene between H/G in the books in one of my favorites and it's like 100% missing, I would've taken that to bold-Ginny parading around her full house semi-naked. It was also one of the most sexually charged scenes that the movies have ever shown but I have to give credit that it reflected Ginny's bold personality. However... because it's dropped then and there the viewer who doesn't read the books is left wondering how real are Harry's feeling when in the books there's never any doubt the movie just doesn't capture the meat of it. Which brings me to the next low/WTF point

If you've never read the books I can see where you'd be confused and think there's a love triangle happening between Harry/Hermione/Ron when there never is and it's never like that in the books. A little background of my relationship with Harry Potter. I had not read any of the books and watched the first movie, instantly I knew something was going on with Ron/Hermione. So I read the books and at that time books 1-4 had come out. By the time I finished I knew for certain that Hermione and Ron liked one another and that Harry was her brother which I totally got her because she acts towards her brother the way I act towards mine. We hang out together all the time, there's no sexual tension and I worry about him more than I should. That doesn't mean I'd like to snog him, it just means he's very dear to me so I GOT that from the books, and their movie scenes never bothered me (though I was extremely aggravated at the way Ron was always portrayed in the movies). However, like I said, I can see where someone who occasionally sees the movies, never reads the books might be like "Oh shit, there's totally a love triangle going on". Sigh. Whatever, it's done. The talk Harry has with Ron at the end of the kissing vision is VITAL to establish any doubts/confusion people might have but that was skimmed over with a "keep talking about the little light". Again, if you know the books you understand that Harry and Hermione dancing is him trying to cheer her up and that he misses Ron as much as she does but if you haven't then you'll be like the guy in front of me that says "I thought she was with Ron?" I didn't kick his chair, dont worry.

Tonks/Lupin are one of my favorites, it's a subtle relationship that Harry sees develop in bits here and there. I hate that it lands on our laps and suddenly they're married. I loved that age difference between them in the books and how his condition plays a huge role in it yet in the movies you dont see that.

Fleur. Ugh, Fleur. I adore her in the books, she's fab but I can't stand her in the movies. First of all she's nothing like that in the books, the entire tension between her and Molly are never shown and I still am angry for not showing them at all in movie 6 when she snaps to Molly that she's pretty enough for the both of them. -_- I love Bill/Fleur so I am still upset that they skimmed it. I did love her wedding dress and the forehead touch when the attack happened. I'm so angry that we never get to see or enjoy the HOT older Weasley brothers. Bill was not hot, IMO. He's supposed to be supper hot. In the movie... he's not.

My Ron didn't completely break down when Hermione was being tortured. Jesus, that's like one of my favorite bits of the books. Hermione is screaming, Ron is completely loosing it, pounding on the door calling for her and Harry is trying to calm him down. It's so powerful in the book and all it would've taken was for some Rupert yanking on the bars and screaming Hermione's name. Was that so hard, director person? Really?

Now let me be specific about how happy I am with Ron/Hermione...
OMFG. The touches, the stares, the chin-scene, the hugging, their overall demeanor has completely changed. Granted, I felt completely cheated that we didn't get them dancing on the floor but I forgave them when they reached towards one another when the attack happened and she kinda fell into his arms. I even got my wish of the scene where they fall asleep holding hands and Harry notices <3 Happy shipper heart. =D I also melted a little in my seat when she rushed to him when they landed in the burrow. BTW, Rupert has gotten some seriously sexy arms on him, I couldn't stop staring and I figured he's now over 21, it's no longer an odd thing to do, lol

I'm still disappointed with the lack of Harry/Ginny but I am hoping that we get more of it in part 2. Yes, I'm hoping. Plus I know the book doesn't have much H/G but again some little internal thoughts of Harry would be nice of him and Ginny snogging or something.

I also have to agree with nearly 95% of the things in this post about the movie, very well thought out.

Now... wishes for part 2

- I NEED Molly going bad ass on Bellatrix and saving Ginny and saying "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" before she kills her, it's such a pleasant surprise in the books that Molly is the one to kill Bellatrix.
- I need the death of Fred to be as sad as I felt when I read it.
- Tonks/Lupin =( all the Marauders now dead.
- I NEED the Snape/Lily thing to be done right. Seriously, they can't fail at this. We didn't get to hear nearly enough of Alan Rickman's voice in this movie and I need to really get it in part 2.
- The kiss between Hermione and Ron needs to be explosive. The same way and if not even more than it was in the books, they fucking owe us this from all the shit they've removed in the movies, I need the audience to feel exhilarated at the make-out.

That's all, it should be non-stop action the next film, I plan on clutching at the heart when Harry is carried presumably dead back to Hogwarts etc etc.
https://isabellecs.livejournal.com/400084.html?view=comments#comments
harry potter","movies
I'm spending my first day of vacation watching Paula Dean and taking notes for Thanksgiving which is right around the corner. Bring to boil. I added like 1/2 a cup of grated Parmesan cheese this is when I taste it to make sure it doesn't need salt/pepper. I have this entire week off which I'm supposed to clean and work on my writing. Let us see where this takes me. I'm excited because Vanessa & Robert (my cousin and her husband) will be staying with us for the Holiday and V and I get along like peas and carrots. I'm close to all my cousins but Vanessa is the closest to me in age, she's fabulous so I'm excited that we'll be together for a few days. My ex and her husband are best friends so that's going to be interesting when the boys want to hang out, I'm hoping they take it elsewhere.

Anyways, I'm excited about Thanksgiving I have a lot to be thankful for most especially for the best roommate this side of the Atlantic, she really is. She lets me play in the kitchen and eats everything I make, she doesn't cook so it works out well for us! Last night I went into a frenzy... I needed to make my sweet potatoes before they went bad. So I pulled out a pork tenderloin (thank you, God for pork, sfm) and conjured this up. May I say (without being conceited) that it was AMAZING. We're having left overs tonight - yum yum!

Ok, pics -

I made Pork Tenderloin in a Beer Cream Sauce & Sweetened Sweet Potatoes. Yeah, delish. But wait - that's not all! I also made a Flourless Chocolate Torte. It was sinful.

Yeah....

So recipes!!

Ingredients:
Pork Tenderloin
1 cup of Heavy Cream
5 Cloves of Garlic
Mushrooms (optional and of your choice)
Garlic Powder
Dried Oregano
2 Med Onions, whole
2 Bunches of Green Onions
4 Leaves of Culantro (can use fresh Cilantro, a handful)
A handful of fresh parsley
1 Green Bell Pepper (sliced into large parts)
1 Yellow Bell Pepper (sliced into large parts)
Olive Oil
A light beer (I used Michelob Ultra, but I'm sure any would do)
A rue (flour + water)

Directions

In a mortar mash the garlic, 1/4 tsp of salt, 1/4 tsp of pepper and 1/4 tsp of garlic powder, add a little bit of olive oil to make into a paste. Take paste and rub well on pork tenderloin until well coated.

In a roasting pan or a lasagna pan add the mushrooms, onions, culantro (or cilantro), parseley, and peppers. Sprinkle some salt, pepper, garlic powder and a little olive oil over it, toss all veggies together so that they're coated. The salt helps the flavor run out of them and into the pan drippings you're going to use.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

In a large pan on Med-High sear the pork tenderloin. For maximum effect do not add the meat until the pan is HOT. Sear loin on all sides. Dont worry about the bits stuck in the bottom of the pan, you're going to use these for the sauce. Remove loin only golden brown and place on top of veggies on the baking pan. Bring heat of pan down to med-low add 1/4 cup of water to it and the entire beer. Let it sizzle a bit and scrape the yummy bits stuck to the bottom of the pan with a spatula, scrape well. Once it's simmered for 5 min or so add the entire liquid over the pork roast and the veggies. Cover pan with foil and roast in oven for 25 min - 30 min depending on the size of your roast. What you're looking for is that it's still pink and raw in the very middle. Like an 1 1/2 of uncooked meat inside.

Remove from oven, carefully remove the loin from the pan and set aside. DO NOT SLICE YET. You need the meat to set, slicing it too soon will make all the juices run out and you're left with a not-so-tender tenderloin.

Remove all the mushrooms, if you added any and place on the side also. Now strain all the liquid from the pan, you dont want all the veggies and herbs to get in your sauce. Pour all the liquid into the same pan you used to sear the loin. Bring to a simmer on Med-High. Add heavy cream and keep simmering. Taste. If too bland add salt, pepper and garlic powder. If too salty add more water until the taste is right.

Slice the tenderloin into thin slices and add to the sauce so that it finishes cooking. Add the mushrooms also. The sauce should not be too thick, you're going to thicken it now. Once the meat is look (no longer pink) you're going to make a rue.

A rude is made in a cup, add 1 part flour, 2 parts water. Usually I add 1 tbsp of all purpose flower and 2 tbsp of water. Mix well and whisk the white water mixture into the liquid. It will thicken, if it doesn't do another rue until it's as thick as you'd like it.

I know it's complicated but it makes for a good Holiday dish that will impress the mother in law or your own mother :)

. Peel and dice them and boil them until just tender enough. Drain. In a pan add brown sugar, 1/2 a stick of butter, a pinch of salt and cinnamon, I also like to add a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg. It's got a nice Holiday feel to it. Toss the sweet potatoes in mixture, taste to see if they need more sugar etc. Then serve, true Holiday classic.

Now for the flourless cake... I made fresh cookies, there's just something so simple and fantastic about cookies. I made 2 dozens, gave some as little gifts and ate some more. It's very simple, got this recipe from the cardboard off the Crisco package. I know... you're thinking OMFG CRISCO!!?? In the US it's a taboo to cook with lard however I grew up with my grandmother and great-aunts using lard to cook rice, meat, basically anything and none of us had any serious health issues. So whatever, I did it with Crisco. You can substitute the Crisco with butter, unsalted REAL butter. Just dont use Margarine. You shouldn't be using margarine to begin with, it's one of the most disgusting things on earth, one ingredient away from being plastic. So embrace butter.

Here is the recipe:

Ingredients
* 3/4 stick Crisco® Baking Sticks Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening
* OR 3/4 cup Crisco® Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening (OR 3/4 cup of unsalted butter)
* 1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
* 2 tablespoons milk
* 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
* 1 large egg
* 1 3/4 cups All Purpose Flour
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 (6 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
* 1/2 cup of Toffee bits (you can get it in the bakery section or you can crush Heath bars, works the same)

PREPARATION DIRECTIONS:
1. HEAT oven to 375ºF.
2. COMBINE shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat in egg. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Mix into shortening mixture until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
3. DROP by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. (I greased it with butter, sorry recipe!)
4. BAKE 8 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp cookies. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet on a cooling rack. Remove cookies to rack to cool completely.

And it was yummy! I made little goody bags and gave some to my neighbor and to my friend and her husband with who we went for drinks last night. He especially loved it. ;)

Now I'm off to make us some hearty tomato basil soup before we head out to the pumpkin patch!! I felt I needed to express that before I reviewed because it'll explain my over-praise of Josh Duhamel whom I think is just yummy and fabulous. First off this is totally a movie for both girls and guys and I promise you it will put you off children. My nerves were raw and I couldn't take the crying over and over. That aside I went to watch this film last night having little to no expectation of it and I was pleasantly surprised.

The premise is that the neurotic, controlling, anal, and bitchy girl (how typical, right?) has to team up with the womanizing, egocentric, relationship-phobic, Lothario guy (even more typicalness!) in order to raise the baby they're both godparents to when the parents die. Basically the baby's mom is Holly's best friend and the baby's dad is Messer's best friend. I think you can tell it'll be a pretty good film when they both have to deal with the sudden death of their best friends. Holly works with charts, plans and a schedule and she dreams of finding a perfect white bread nice guy to settle with. Messer on the other hand is all too happy to bed as many women as he can in a day, kick girls out of his bed the very next day and smirk as he does it.

The baby naturally throws everything to the wind. The baby doesn't fit in Holly's well planned plans and she totally kills Messer's social life. They end up living in the house their friends left because the mortgage is covered so that alone brings some laughs. Despite them innitially believing that they're quite different they end up realizing that they're actually quite alike; they're very loyal to their friends, they both love the baby and they understand and begin accepting one another just as they are. It progresses nicely, my personal favorite parts include when Messer starts realizing that he likes her when she begins dating "the perfect guy".

It's got it's very sweet moments, sad moments and honestly hilarious moments. I have to say that the highlight of the film is the neighbors who include the very awesome Melissa McCarthy which a lot of people will recognize her as the original Sookie from Gilmore Girls. She's absolutely FABULOUS and hilarious! Josh Duhamel is amazing as a self-centered playboy who drinks too much and drives a motorcycle and suddenly falls for the girl he least expected. I've always though Katherine was a great actress. I just dont like her. The few shots of the stunning Christina Hendricks were not nearly enough, she's too gorgeous for words, I was sad that we didn't get enough of her.

So if you want mindless fun movie that will please a crowd check it out just be warned that you will leave the theater thinking "I NEVER WANT KIDS!"
Oh little livejournal, I've had you since 2002. Let us see how this goes. Since I dont want a boyfriend this doctor in residency works out well for me since he's the one person I know who works more than I do. We're still missing some things, like accents and wall art but for the most part the living area is set. Our next project is the kitchen, we're re-surfacing the cabinets and updating the appliances so that will be a huge project on it's own. But meanwhile, the living area looks awesome =D

We took the old chandelier that had come with the condo and spray-painted it black to make it look updated and slick. We also found this old mirror in the store closet left over, we also spray painted it black and now - BAM. Love it! I made this for our weekly Jersey Shore party where upon placing it in the coffee table it was absolutely ATTACKED, VIOLATED AND DISMEMBERED! I was lucky I got this picture of what it was before (especially my brother) gulped it down.

I researched a lot of recipes for this but finally came to one that I adjusted for what I liked. I should warn you all, I didn't measure... I was doing it all by eye.

Ingredients:
- 4 cans of refrigerated Pillsbury's biscuits (they're at Walmart for like less than $3, for the pack)
- 1 3/4 cups of white sugar
- 3 tablespoons of Cinnamon
- 2 sticks of butter or 1 full cup (REAL BUTTER, PEOPLE!!)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1/4 brown sugar

Melt the butter and add the 3/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar and vanilla - bring to a light boil (or you can microwave the hell out of it) Put the liquid mixture to the side.

Mix one cup of sugar & the cinnamon - dip cut up biscuit sections in this and arrange in a heavily greased bundt pan. I paused half-way through and poured some of the liquid mixture over it, then layered the rest of the biscuits on top. Pour remaining cin-sugar mix on top and the rest of the liquid mixture.

Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes.

I should warn you, place your pan on top of a cookie-sheet or something because sometimes it spills over and this will prevent a gooey mess in the bottom of your oven.

You have to flip IMMEDIATELY so please be careful when doing it, dont get burnt. Flip onto a large plate, be careful the liquid caramel will be all over the place so do this over your sink. It'll look majestic when served, dust some powdered sugar on top for presentation. If you have kids this is a fun thing to do with them, I think I'll do this with my goddaughters when they come over next time.

This is also a GREAT breakup food, ngl.

And now gif love for those of you who also love watching Vinny/Snooki on JS.

Something NOT related to food?? Or perhaps you judge a Mexican restaurant by their guacamole? Then you need to do this:

I have been making this guacamole for a few years now and I've made converts of people who claimed to hate anything green and mushy. I learned it from one of my sorority sister's mom who was born and raised in Arizona and lady could really cook tex-mex.

The amount of ingredients all depends on taste. Some people like it FULL of tomatoes, others not so much, so customize this as you like. To make a batch like the one in the picture:

Ingredients:
- 5 small avocados
- 1 large steak tomato, diced
- 1 large lime
- 1 med red onion, diced
- 1 fresh jalapeño, diced
- a handful of fresh cilantro (must have this!!), chopped finely
- salt & pepper
- garlic powder (can use fresh garlic if you have at hand, finely minced)

The basis is very simple: peel & seed avocado and placed in large mixing bowl. Squeeze half your lime into it; mush to your liking with a potato musher or a fork. You can leave it as chunky as you like it. Then add the rest of the ingredients, adding salt, pepper & garlic powder to your liking. Make sure you squeeze the rest of the lime in there, the lime juice is what keeps it from getting brown. People never add enough salt, imo, so make sure you salt it well. Serve with some chips or for taco night and I promise people will love this, I have to do this by request now because so many people love this guacamole. I usually get some extra lime wedges to decorate and dice more jalapeños on the side for those who like it EXTRA spicy. I think the reason it's so good is the fresh ingredients in it, your veggies should be nice and fresh and then it taste delicious.

Wine suggestion: Skip the wine and serve super cold Bud Lite Lime or Coronas.
I've been meaning to try out this recipe posted by Atlantis Home on lemon bars and I finally had the chance to last night. Yiyi, Alex & I went shopping for a dinning room set and we found one, Yiyi's choice. We ended up getting this one on our 7th shop American Signature Furniture store: Dinning Set. It's not too big cause we dont have like TONS of space but it's large enough to fit 6 people and it's the counter height one which we were really really looking for! So it arrives on Tuesday & her dad is coming over to set it up for us. I also left with something. I just couldn't leave it, you'll see how precious it is! The Perfect Cocktail Table. It's perfect for our living room, for parties, board game nights, etc. It arrives next wk, SO excited!

So last night we decided to let the boys win out and let them pick out a movie. They picked 'The Departed' and it just happened than more than half of the ppl in the room hadn't watched it and of course I own it (just to watch Mark Wahlberg be an asshole). We picked up a bunch of movie candy, a huge pack of beer and wine and I got to the kitchen and made my lemon bars. 3am they finally leave and this photo below is all that is left of my precious lemon bars. They were attacked. So I can vouch that they are AWESOME.

Here is the recipe that she posted, I followed it to a T.
AUNT GAIL'S LEMON BARS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

CRUST
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup of butter (1 stick)
1/4 cup powered sugar
Add sugar to butter, then flour. They're too good and people will love them up. If you like more jelly-to-crust ratio then I suggest you double the filling amount because these are a lot of crust but that's where the buttery goodness is IMO ;)

Have an awesome week everyone!!
I admit, I have been MIA but it's mostly been on purpose. I needed to focus on me time and spend more time with friends and family. I think it's a great change because I've actually felt very happy and emotionally healthy. I just got back from a week long trip to Dallas & Washington DC for work, had good times and bad times but overall it has been great. Tonight I have cousins coming to my parent's house and I volunteered to cook the Chicken Cacciotore.

Now, some years ago I got the recipe from Giada's show, Everyday Italian. This recipe is hands down one of my favorite to make of hers. This is the recipe I followed: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/chicken-cacciatore-recipe/index.html

I did add some green onions and red pepper flakes to make it a bit spicy. Mom is making Fettuccine Alfredo with Portobelo Mushrooms so I think it'll match up nicely. Here is the pic I took of the meal, I just finished it and we just have to wait for the wine to cool and for our guest to arrive.

Ingredients

* 4 chicken thighs
* 2 chicken breasts with skin and backbone, halved crosswise
* 2 teaspoons salt, plus more to taste
* 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more to taste
* 1/2 cup all purpose flour, for dredging
* 3 tablespoons olive oil
* 1 large red bell pepper, chopped
* 1 onion, chopped
* 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
* 3/4 cup dry white wine
* 1 ( 28-ounce) can diced tomatoes with juice
* 3/4 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
* 3 tablespoons drained capers
* 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano leaves
* 1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil leaves

Directions

Sprinkle the chicken pieces with 1 teaspoon of each salt and pepper. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour to coat lightly.

In a large heavy saute pan, heat the oil over a medium-high flame. Add the chicken pieces to the pan and saute just until brown, about 5 minutes per side. If all the chicken does not fit in the pan, saute it in 2 batches. Transfer the chicken to a plate and set aside. Add the bell pepper, onion and garlic to the same pan and saute over medium heat until the onion is tender, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add the wine and simmer until reduced by half, about 3 minutes. Add the tomatoes with their juice, broth, capers and oregano. Return the chicken pieces to the pan and turn them to coat in the sauce. Bring the sauce to a simmer. Continue simmering over medium-low heat until the chicken is just cooked through, about 30 minutes for the breast pieces, and 20 minutes for the thighs.

Using tongs, transfer the chicken to a platter. If necessary, boil the sauce until it thickens slightly, about 3 minutes. Spoon off any excess fat from atop the sauce. Spoon the sauce over the chicken, then sprinkle with the basil and serve.

Every time I make this people love it so thank you, Giada!
https://isabellecs.livejournal.com/395689.html?view=comments#comments
recipes"}]}}
