Successfully Transitioning to Commercial Operations
We are a leader in developing domestic primary and secondary sources of critical lithium-ion battery metals used in electric vehicles, stationary storage systems and consumer electronics. ABTC’s focus on research and development has advanced a disruptive extraction technology of battery metals that can be deployed across the battery recycling and primary lithium extraction industries. Our advanced hydro process increases the recovery of critical minerals (Li, Ni, Mn, Co) from end-of-life batteries and enables the cost-effective recovery of lithium from domestic claystone resources. By leveraging our capabilities across both primary and secondary resources, ABTC is facilitating a transition to a circular lower-carbon energy economy, from transportation to energy storage.
Leadership With Deep Expertise Across the Battery Metals Supply Chain and Commodity Markets
- Significant first-hand knowledge of advanced lithium-ion battery manufacturing processes.
- Deep knowledge of mineral exploration, mine development, and commodity market fundamentals.
- Key hires in construction management, finance, chemical engineering, and operations to accelerate commercial deployment of our battery material extraction and recycling platform.
- Reconstituted independent board with experience across automotive OEMs, global chemicals, finance, and sustainability industries.
Recycling US Lithium Batteries to Drive a Closed Loop Domestic Supply of Battery Metals
- Designed to capture and recycle nearly every component needed to manufacture a new lithium-ion battery cell.
- Enables the development of closed loop environment and circular battery economy.
- Commercial scale battery recycling facility in Nevada is designed to process 20,000 metric tonnes per year of feedstock to produce battery grade metals. ABTC’s second commercial battery recycling facility, planned for development, will be designed to process 100,000 metric tonnes of battery materials per year.
10,340 Acres of Unpatented Lode Claims for Lithium Claystone
- ABTC controls 517 lithium-bearing claystone lode claims encompassing over 10,340 acres near Tonopah, Nevada.
- ABTC has successfully designed our internally developed sustainable lithium extraction process and has manufactured battery cathode grade lithium hydroxide from Nevada-based sedimentary claystone primary resources.
- Report published in January 2024 identified Tonopah Flats Project as one of the USA’s largest known lithium deposits, including 21.15 million tonnes of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM). Pre-Feasibility Study published in October 2025 established 2.73 million tonnes of proven and probable lithium reserves.
Commercial Partnerships With Industry-Leading Public and Private Entities for Both Primary and Secondary Resources
- Large portfolio of strategic partnerships such as BASF, Call2Recycle, Argonne National Laboratory, Greentown Labs, the U.S. Advanced Battery Consortium, made up of General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Stellantis, the U.S. Department of Energy, University of Nevada, Reno, several other public and private universities.
- Designated a FAST-41 Priority Project by the National Energy Dominance Council (NEDC) and U.S. Federal Permitting Council.

What are the company’s assets in terms of primary resources?
American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) currently controls 517 Lode Claims in Tonopah Flats (10,340 acres). The project has been recognized as one of the USA’s largest known lithium deposits, with 2.73 million tonnes of proven and probable lithium reserves.
See the Tonopah Flats Project Page for the latest information.
What are the products of the company’s recycling process?
In our recycling process’ first demanufacturing phase, battery materials are recycled into products including copper, aluminum, steel, a lithium intermediate, and a black mass intermediate material. In our second hydrometallurgical selective leaching phase, the lithium intermediate is further refined into a battery grade lithium hydroxide product, and the black mass intermediate material is further refined into battery grade nickel, cobalt, manganese, and lithium hydroxide products.
How much lithium can the plant recycle in a given period of time?
Our first commercial recycling plant will be scaled to process 20,000 metric tonnes of feedstock per year. Further expansion of ABTC’s recycling technologies includes a planned commercial facility designed to process 100,000 metric tonnes of battery materials per year.
Does your process recycle the cathode material itself? What percentage does it yield, and at what purity?
End of life, full battery assemblies (including scrap materials) are to be received by ABTC and processed by our recycling facility. Each individual element is then extracted and purified to battery grade quality. These battery grade feedstocks are then sold directly back to the supply chain to manufacture new batteries.
ABTC’s proprietary advanced hydro technology uses automation in the de-manufacturing of batteries and targeted hydrometallurgical processing to recover the active battery metals. It avoids high-temperature processing, and is a streamlined and efficient process to yield a >90% recovery rate of battery cathode specification products.
