Ultrasonographic examination, either as visual inspection or quantitative analysis, is the m... more Ultrasonographic examination, either as visual inspection or quantitative analysis, is the most widely diagnostic resource. However, speckle noise is one of the drawbacks that makes it less effective than other medical imaging systems. Several speckle reduction methods often offer effective speckle reduction but generally suffer from oversmoothing, a blurring effect and a man-made appearance. In this paper, we propose a Multi-Output Filter based on the Multiplicative Multiresolution Decomposition (MOF-MMD). This multi-scale based method enables the enhancement of the original image and provides three enhanced outputs: global, edge and texture images. Real time signal, image and control applications have very important time constraints, involving ... more Real time signal, image and control applications have very important time constraints, involving the use of several powerful numerical calculation units. The aim of our project is to develop a fast prototyping process dedicated to parallel architectures made of several last generation Texas Instruments TMS320C6X DSP. The methodology is based on the use of SynDEx, a CAD software developed to improve algorithm implementation onto multiprocessor architectures, finding the best matching between an algorithm and an architecture. We have developed a SynDEx executive kernel for the C6X DSP family, in order to automatically generate a distributed and optimised static executive of the specified algorithm onto those processors. We have tested the efficiency of our methodology with a complete Mpeg-2 coding application.

The aim of our work is to develop a fast and automatic prototyping process dedicated to parallel architectures made of both PC and several last generation Texas Instruments digital signal processors: TMS320C6X DSP. The process is based on SynDEx, a CAD software improving algorithm implementation onto multi-processor architectures by finding the best matching between an algorithm and an architecture. SynDEx kernels for automatic PC and DSP dedicated code generation have been developed with the new SynDEx repetition feature. A full coding application (LAR) illustrates the results.

Moreover, they can hardly be projected onto multiprocessors targets, leading to an extra load of source code and calculations, but also to a sub-optimal use of the architecture parallelism. This paper introduces a distributed Mpeg-4 application, where the system part is hosted by a standard PC, and the video decoder is supported by a multi-DSPs board. In particular, we present our AVSynDEx methodology allowing both an incremental building, an easy update on the video decoder description, and a quasiautomatic implementation onto a multi-C6x platform. We also define a global scheduler managing the parallel execution of the video and system applications. The method is based on a new recursive morphological decomposition method of 8-convex structuring elements by only causal twopixel structuring elements (2PSE). Whatever the element size, erosion or/and dilation can then be performed during a unique raster-like image scan involving a fixed reduced analysis neighborhood. The resulting process offers low computation complexity combined with easy description of the element form. The dedicated hardware is generic and fully regular, built from elementary interconnected stages. It has been synthesized into an FPGA and achieves high frequency performances for any shape and size of structuring element.

In this paper, we introduce a novel way to represent an image sequence, which naturally exhibits ... more In this paper, we introduce a novel way to represent an image sequence, which naturally exhibits the temporal persistence of the textures. Standardized representations have been thoroughly optimized, and getting significant improvements has become more and more difficult. As an alternative, Analysis-Synthesis (AS) coders have focused on the use of texture within a video coder. We introduce here a new AS representation of image sequences that remains close to the classic block-based representation. By tracking textures throughout the sequence, we propose to reconstruct it from a set of moving textures which we call motion tubes. A new motion model is then proposed, which allows for motion field continuities and discontinuities, by hybridizing Block Matching and a low-computational mesh-based representation. Finally, we propose a bi-predictional framework for motion tubes management.

The aim of this paper is to present an efficient scheme to transmit a compressed digital image ov... more The aim of this paper is to present an efficient scheme to transmit a compressed digital image over a non frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel. The proposed scheme is based on the Locally Adaptive Resolution (LAR) algorithm, and the Reed-Solomon error correcting code is used to protect the data against the channel errors. In order to optimize the protection rate and ensure better protection we introduce an Unequal Error Protection (UEP) strategy, where we take the hierarchy of the information into account. The digital communication system also includes appropriate interleaving and differential modulation. Simulation results clearly show that our scheme presents an efficient solution for image transmission over wireless channels, and provides a high quality of service, outperforming the JPWL scheme in high bit error rate conditions.
